i know this sounds horrible but sometimes i wish we still had gladiators. this is relevant because if we did, then maybe we could find out the answer to our question. honestly, i think there are probably some, not many, a very very few, men in prision witha life sentance that would rather fight in the ring than die in jail.

This is one bite, when the dog was not even aimed at attacking me. My stomach and legs we're also scratched and heavily bruised.

The dog, will win. No questions.

Note: This dog did not mean to attack me, my sister still owns her to this day, we had to part with the 2nd dog as they would fight over food, who was "top dog" and the likes, but she has also gone to a very good home and is fine, both 100% lovely with children and people. The ONLY reason i was hurt is because i literally jumped into it and had my hand in their mouths trying to prise them apart, when it happened prior, one ended up with a hole in her head.

That was not a good move though, best thing you can do is approach them from behind and wrap their nose in your hands so they can't breathe anymore and are forced to release.

Human is leading the poll?

What kind of a person are we talking about, anyway? A 400 pound MMA fighter might win, an average person would get destroyed by an average dog though.

(But would the MMA fighter beat a highly trained killer dog?)

Well, it happened quickly and i didnt exactly get time to plan xD I just didnt want to see them ripping eachother apart, i dont regret what i did, rather my arm then a dead dog tbh, they fought 3 times and that was the last, the 2nd time was god awful because one of them was seriously fucked up. Didnt want to see one of my lil pups dead on the floor over some food lol.

I only used that story as an example though really, they truely are strong beasts. German shepards are bigger, heaviler and stronger too.

Yes. Humans have more means of attacking. The dog can basically only bite, which is only lethat when he gets the humans throat.

Are the people voting for humans assuming the dog will sit on command instead of attacking? Do any of you know how big and strong a german shepard is? This fight would be over in 10 seconds and I doubt the dog would even be moderately injured.

Really depends on the person. Average humans are blessed/cursed with a sense of reason and self protection that he or she will most likely not go all out on the dog. If, however, you were to find a human that would be as much of an animal as a dog (as in chained up, and attacks as soon as chain is released) then I'm convinced the dog will die.

Average person would freeze/panic when facing a big dog such as a German Sheppard and would die.

If the guy fighting the dog is the equivalent of a German shepard of the human race then he would win.

People obviously don't understand dogs to say things like "400 pound MMA fighter" <--- pretty stupid.

I'd rather fight a dog with no weapons face to face than a human of equal abilities anyday ... Dogs are predictable, fast but predictable and they have 1 avenue of attack. You defend its first bite or allow it so you can choke them out and you'll win, you allow your throat to be exposed you die... A dog can bite with a force greater than 600lbs so it can dig right into your arm/body but that is it's one attack... Once you wrap your arms around its throat you win, and competent dog owner who owns big dogs knows this because if there dog ever attacks someone or the masters then you put it down yourself.

I think the human would win but they'd probably have to amputate an arm because of the injuries.

the person who could take an american bulldog, well i'd like to see that

alot of people here don't know very much about dogs

Realised i should probably elaborate, they just don't feel pain the way me or you do. People say a boot to the head would beat a dog, well vs a male american bulldog all your doing is putting yourself off balance and giving him something to chew on. no way no how, they used to fight "bulldogs" in england (over 100 years ago by the way) verses a bull. Yes a BULL.

Wiki link

more than often the bull lost. that is one dog vs a 800lb+++ angry bull with pepper blown up its fracking nose. and you think a person can beat a dog? laughable and the dogs then weren't anywhere near the size they can get to now.

Nelly, our american bull (we call her that cause she's like an elephant) could own any of you with or without a weapon (guns/swords obvoisly excluded)

The problem is the speed at witch a german shepard can inflict damage. Once I had a fight with my dog, in a second he shredded my arm, only a couple deep deep cuts(he was holding back) but the whole thing was bleeding. If he gets a hold of you like that you can't really shake him off, his grip is like a vice, and anything you do in retaliation is probably not going to be as damaging or nearly as shocking as his bites. As for getting him in a head lock or something, they are wild animals, they'll thrash on a lot longer than people but its certainly possible. Biggest thing though is that their fast, they wait for a good opening if their smart and its a bitch to catch a german Shepard. So is it possible with premeditation? Yes. Without? Kinda unlikely, will you die? Maybe maybe not but I'm sure your injuries will be more significant.

yeah, dogs will never win if the person has the same motivation to attack as the dog... like, being all out aggressive? pretty sure 1 good punch/kick on the nose will knock a dog out. (talking good punch here, as in "i dun care if my hand gets hurt")

Here's what professionals think about it:

http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/HowTo:Win_a_Fight_Against_Your_Dog

Seriously though, my area has a lot of stray dogs, and I have specifically done research on how I can defend myself if attacked. People who train dogs seem to agree that an unarmed (even trained) human has 0 chance against a trained dog. This is because dogs are several times faster that a human, and a trained dog knows where to attack and will immediately throw the human off-balance. If the dog is untrained, it will usually instinctively grab the closest limb which it sees moving. So, if you wrap your arm in some thick fabric, and put it in front of you, the dog will bite on that, and hopefully you'll be able to get on top of the dog and crush it with your knees and elbows.

A lot of ppl in this thread seem to be rether over-confident about their chances vs a dog.

I really doubt that all the training a dog could have would give it any chance vs a massive sweeping kick to the body. Dog has no chance.

It won't receive any massive sweeping kicks to its body. Try to deliver a massive sweeping kick to a body of a human - is the guy just going to stand around waiting for your kick to land?

No, he's going to block with one of his four limbs.

You don't block a kick rofl, you parry it at most.

I'll humor you and ignore that a parry is a type of block.

Where does he say a parry is a block? I can't be bothered watching the whole vod.

Also in muay thai you condition your shins by repeatedly kicking hard objects until it gets stronger. An average person cannot do that kind of block. Do that against someone who does muay thai and your shins will snap in half.

In muay thai you also kick with your shins rather than your ankle because it does more damage. You often see peoples legs snap in half from those types of kicks. The only time you use your ankle is to try and hit thigh or above or put the other player off balance. The reason they don't teach this in other martial arts is because they don't teach shin conditioning.

Also in the second half of the vid he teaches how to counter by simply avoiding the kick which was what I was implying. Most martial arts teach you to simply avoid the attack or parry it, not block it.

You have got to be kidding me. It doesn't say in the video that a parry is a block. I said "I'll humor you and ignore that a parry is a type of block." Then I posted a video demonstrating a martial arts technique in which a man is blocking a kick without parrying. It doesn't freaking matter if its uncommon it completely invalidates what you said. Then you ramble on about a bunch of random facts completely unrelated. You often see legs snap in half from those types of kicks. REALLY? OMG SHOCKER!!!!! Perhaps it's because they're being BLOCKED.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blocking_(martial_arts)

http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/linguistics-and-philosophy/24-241-logic-i-fall-2009/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

Uh what is your point.

In the common usage of the word, a parry is a deflection to modify the angle of attack so as to put the least amount of resistance to the attack while still being able to nullify it. A block is usually trying to the stop the force dead in its tracks.

Fine I will re-word it, you don't block a kick, you deflect it at most. (conditions apply: you are a muay thai fighter with steel legs)

Its pretty easy to dodge a kick, and you are implying a dog can't?

Straw man? Where? I am aware of what a parry is, it is a type of block. When you parry a kick, you block the kick. Parry is a subset within block. Block does not mean stopping a force dead in its tracks. There are blocks that do that, but not all of them, as evidenced by a type of block known as the parry. This is all really simple. But even if we accept your incorrect definition for the word block, there are still instances where people block kicks by stopping them dead in their tracks. How can you not get this by now?
