Well, first off, kicking at a dog is most likely just going to get your leg bitten, then it can easily pull you on the ground since you only have one leg for balance. Second, who said anything about letting the dog hang off your arm? Why don't you go back and read the strategy I laid out. Basically you let it bite your arm then you position it between yourself and the walls in this imaginary room.

"I haven't had enough experience with the pain-deadening effects of adrenaline, I guess..."

Or, you just have a low pain threshold, or you underestimate how much you can take in a LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION.

human martial arts surpasses dog martial arts. i'd favor any well-trained human against an unarmored dog.

as for the average human male, it really depends what region you're drawing from. your average frenchman will probably not fare well against your average german shepherd, but there's little hope for the german shepherd against your average zulu warrior.

I still think that most people will shit themselves when a big dog comes running to attack you. Regardless of that bullshit "I know someone who fought dogs said that kicking is best...", I'm sure those dogs weren't launching themselves at him, probably just running about his feet biting. BTW, tell me just what kind of kick would you do? Roundhouse? Too slow. Front kick? Most probably too weak. Teep? Good luck. Stomp? Only if you already have the dog grounded. Face it, most people don't and can't kick worth a shit. You're better off eye gouging and sticking your hand down the dog's throat.

dogs are pack animals, and if you show dominance to the dog, you wont even have to kill it. Once you land a few kicks and show your not backing down, the dog will accept you as its superior, aka alpha dog. That is.... unless it is rabid, or is just trained to kill no matter what.

I agree, those of you who think human wins are idiots.

If a dog is running me i'd probably just tee up on its head with my foot like i'm punting a soccer ball. It's even at the perfect height. I think i would win.

I'm 6'0 180 and its like i'm kicking a 10 year old in the face. one hit k-o

and leave your genitals exposed to bites? -_-

i'm kicking not spreading my legs and putting my balls on a silver platter.

well you have to be very accurate to kick the dog in the face, considering he is running EXTREMELY fast towards you and even if you in fact kick him his going to bite your leg and you lose stability.
dunno really depends on the kind of dog and person.

i am a soccer goalie/rugby punter. And i figure even if i miss the head i'm getting a solid body shot that is breaking at least a rib and sending the dog flailing.

i just realized, with all the talk about dogs charging you... we havent yet talked about the possibilities of a human tackling a dog. With the superior weight advantage, the dog would obviously be on the losing end if it was a head on collision. In fact, the faster the dog runs at you.. the more damage it would receive, and dont tell me dogs can cling on to your shoulders... and heck, even if they did it would probably take out a row of teeths in its mouth. thus, decafchicken>dog.

I voted dog because the average human would be like "wtf" and run around in circles like a complete retard while screaming.

we need to define what an "average" man is first.
to me, the average man is ~6 ft tall and weighs between 150-180 lbs.
if the man isn't stupid and utlizies his HUGE WEIGHT ADVANTAGE, it's over for the dog.

please don't point to those videos of trained dogs as evidence as dog > man.
the dogs attack and the guys do nothing, and for good reason.

for all of the dogs strength, it can't take a hit for shit.
for lack of a better word, it has no durability compared to an "average man".

don't kid yourself, you're going to get bitten; but use that to your advantage.
a method, as painful as it is, is to let the dog grab a hold of you and then just drop on it with all your weight.

your weight will fatally wound or even kill a dog.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human-baiting
In The Sporting Magazine vol. XVIII, there is the description of a fight between the 'Gentlemen and the Bull Dog'. The Sporting Times reports on this fight, which occurred in 1807.

Gentleman and the Bulldog (circa 1801)"A fight between a man and Bull Dog took place some time ago to settle a bet. With its first charge the Bull Dog already succeeded in throwing and pinning its opponent. Although the dog's jaws were nearly closed by a muzzle, it succeeded in sinking its teeth into the man's body. Had the dog not been pulled away immediately, it would have disembowelled the man."
This story illustrates the outcome of a large, mastiff like dog charging its opponent. Despite the handicap of a muzzle, the dog was the winner.

I was more amused by the story of the dwarf that beat a bulldog to death with his bare hands.

"will"? It might and it might not. You and decaf are definetely overestimating fragility of the bones. Its not that easy to break em. In fact if youre just falling like a sack of potatoes, which you probably are, youre more likely to injure yourself.

Do any of you know how strong a german shepherd is? If it gets a hold of one of your arms, then at best your going to have to try to choke it out with your one good arm, which probably won't be that successful. All the dog has to do is get on top of you and get one good bite on your face or neck and your fucked. If you've ever actually fought a dog, you know they can take a couple kicks to the face np. Theres a reason they use them as K-9 units.

Voted dog.

we're just going to have to disagree.
i still say that a person's weight will be the overall deciding factor.
i'm not saying it's going easy, but an average man should be able to leverage himself over a dog and continually press down, elbow, and knee the dog until it's over.

i thought this was a fight between an average man and a regular german shepard.
why does everyone assume that the dog is some crazy aggressive, gone apeshit dog?

is the dog trained or what, because most dogs don't continue to attack when they get hit.

and is the man some wimp?
if he knows that he's fighting for his life (average person or not), he sure as hell will put up more of a fight than some unsuspecting bystander.
