I really don't understand the hype with Dan Brown...I was disappointed with his books, not as great as everyone says they are. I always got the feeling the people that love his books don't really read that often =P no offense to fans of course lol

I'll agree with ASOIAF. Anyone who says Wheel of Time is not to be trusted with sharp objects, or anything - really. i'll attest to that, however i have read a number of classics and many of them don't appeal to me at all (steinbeck, lord of the flies, etc). it's not like the op asked "what's your favorite book that everyone hasn't read?"

Excellent storyline intertwining the character's lives together and around the building of the cathedral. I saw the sequel in a bookstore last week but I didn't get it out of fear it wouldn't live up to the first. I made a mental note to check out some reviews but I must've forgotten to do so; perhaps now would be a good time. My favourite book, however, is probably the Frank Herbert classic: Dune. ![]()

![]() Papillon is a memoir by convicted felon Henri Charriere. True or not, this is an amazing story, and the descriptions are so intense I could almost feel the pain as I read it. Fascinating!

![]() This is a really funny book that manages to somehow combine a first-contact story with a satirical look at Hollywood. I highly recommend it! I recently read this book after enjoying John Scalzi's other book "Old Man War": ![]() Old Man's War is about a war in the future fought against aliens with old people uploading their minds into new, superhuman bodies. A good read too. ![]() Anything by Robert J. Sawyer is a pretty solid read if you're into science fiction. I immensely enjoyed his Neanderthal Parallax series - any story that makes you WANT to be in that world is a great one in my books. Factoring Humanity is about the nature of consciousness revealed to the characters by aliens. There's lots of philosophical discussions and it really makes you think. When I first read it, I didn't think much of it and found it to be a bit over-the-top and contrived. However, the story has really stuck with me - Sawyer's vision is memorable if nothing else. Any story that stays inside my head is also a great one in my books ![]() ![]() Speaking of stories that stick in your head and make you want to visit that world, "Weaveworld" is a prime example of both characteristics. It's basically about a world that's trapped inside a carpet. Lots of fantasy and horror elements present along with great character development and just great prose by Mr. Barker. I'll add more if I can think of them.

Doesn't necessarily make for a good opinion does it? Way to be elitist, asswipe. Who the fuck are you to say that they only "ate white rice" and culled their answer from a single experience? And even if they DID only "eat white rice," who the fuck are you to say that that WOULDN'T be their favorite even after trying others? I posted "The Search For Modern China." It's definitely not my absolute favorite. I read it recently. Favorite is not superlative. You can put anything you like under the heading of favorite.
