And a fake death scenario without Putin's knowledge is even less plausible simply because of the method. Obviously if he weren't the one that ordered the plane shot down he would immediately think of this. The one part that confuses me about this whole ordeal is why Prigozhin returned to Russia after the coup and was strolling around like nothing had happened and he was safe? I would have expected him to disappear himself immediately.

I'm also perplexed how Prigozhin flew into Russia. I thought he was exiled? Did he flaunt the rules believing he was above it?

If Prigozhin were to show up somewhere in a year that would make Putin get way more egg on his face, I don't see why Putin would take that risk. Just to let a guy that backstabbed him (his own words) live out his days? He's not exactly the sentimental type. And now it's like nothing happened at all, as if it was a dream. And later that day I see these news. Funny how it works sometimes.

Bitten by his own dog, going on tv attacking them, then granting them amnesty and giving in to their demands. It’s all humiliating for him. Meanwhile Prigozhin seems to have come at the king and missed. Maybe he was promised key defections by allies that bailed on him when he pulled the trigger, maybe he was delusional about troops coming to his side like Napoleon’s march on Paris. This outcome can’t have been the one he planned because he has to know he’s under a death sentence. You can’t demand a new president and march on the capital as a bluff. I would happily make a $100 bet with anyone here that Prigozhin dies of unnatural causes in the next 2 years.

They won’t actually stop because tankies don’t care about facts, only narratives, but we can hope.

Yeah, that was my reaction as well when the coup was negociated... He forgot he is only the boss of his army

Surovikin was probably his closest ally with power, but on the day of the coup he made a public appeal to him stand down, and he's been unheard from since.

That being said, either hypothesis could be true, but we know the turtle won the race. In fact, if you assumed because his name was on the manifest that he was on board, you underestimate the 5d chess Russia has been playing.
