C'mon, man.

could be multiple causes. there are about 3,356 wildfires per year. prolly some were arson. so it is hard to know the cause of wildfires doing the most damage. of the thousands of natural wildfires did one meet up with an arson wildfire causing exponentially increasing damage? who knows.

So, it is hard to know exactly what is going on with the wildfires in California.

It is quite easy to rule out ‘Jewish space lazers’ though

yep, it could be some other malicious intent though. its hard to say. There are a metric tonne of disenfranchised hopeless people living in California amongst all that wealth. I find it hard to believe all 3,300 fires, each year, were all naturally occurring.

I am glad Candace Owens has started pretending she is crazy. She has destroyed her career, at least, she is protecting her family. She needs to start her own Cooking Show. She can be a 21st Century Martha Stewart. "and, that's a good thing".

What are you skeptical about and what alternative explanation do you find plausible?

Candace Owens has the same opinion. Thank goodness she is acting crazy. If she presented her views in the calm rational way Kirk does she'd be deader than Kennedy.

Forces were diverted to West Bank prior to Oct 7th, Israel was underprepared. There was no stand down order. Fun test!

Why would she be dead, Jimmy? Do you think Jews just activate their sleeper cell hitmen every time someone besmirches their reputation?

I think there would be a lot of dead people in this thread if that was the case.

I just hope that Nethyanahu gets away with this, he, as "mr Security" is the second most responsible person for the severity of October 7th, right behind whole of Hamas, and I'm honestly perplexed how a thorough investigation hasn't been done yet and how little news I hear coming from Israel regarding this.

It's the worse thing that happened to that country this century, how are heads not rolling, where is the accountability, is the whole of Knesset and military police under his thumb so much that there will be elections before investigation is done?

No, the person has to fall into a sweet spot of being a Conservative who’s generally pro-Israel but exhibits some criticism. Staunch, perpetual critics of Israel are safe for, some reason.

The short answer is, that would require a public committee to be formed, and the person who gets to decide if and when that happens is, ultimately, Netanyahu. This is one of the issues the opposition, and the masses protesting Netanyahu, have been screaming about in the last 2 years.

A lot of Jimmy's beliefs are centered around the notion that people who think like him are reasonable and important. So, like, if a leftwinger says something, it doesn't threaten Israel because leftists are crazy and weird and nobody likes them, so Israel doesn't need to get rid of us and we're safe. But if people like Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens (and by extension, Jimmy himself) think this, that's very dangerous for Israel because that's the reasonable center of american political thought.

Of course he doesn't realize that when people like Candace present him content where he is portrayed as reasonable and insightful so that he can wank to it, it's not because that's actually real and true, it's just because he keeps watching it and that generates revenue.

We’re still quite a way out, a few days from when I’m 37 based on some cursory Googling.

Probably not ideal how the timing has worked, but hey it is the timing.

Do you anticipate a real backlash coming based on the last few years? And if so, will it be a backlash based on general policy in this domain, or against Netanyahu specifically?

I may also be super wrong here, I read more than most but I’m not embedded over in Israel, and there’s really no substitute for being subsumed in a country’s media culture day to day. It appears to me that you’ve a multi-directional fragmentation. So both absolute nationalistic hardliners seem to be gaining traction, but at the same time you’ve an opposite and equal reaction on the opposite side of the ledger that’s gaining in momentum too.

How do you perceive these various conflicting ideas and forces in terms of how they’re moving and what’s that look like going forwards?

The committee you probably read about is not a "Public Committee" which is what Israeli law lays out as a method to avoid coverups and remain impartial.

This latest initiative is run by ministers in office and therefore extremely problematic. You shouldn't expect anyone close to Netanyahu to get hit. Accountability will only happen when the government changes, and even then it's not a guarantee because of the center left's tendency to focus on "unification" and "healing". I sincerely hope that's done and dusted.

And I can't say I know what an election looks like right now.

I really don't get how there is not more uproar over this.

I mean it's Israel's 9/11, but worse. And 9/11 got a commission and a report a year after the event, despite USA entering Afghanistan soon after, despite Bush being the president during it.

It's bonkers to me that after the devastation Israel left behind it in order to address the event militarily there is no real pressure and uproar over an inquiry to address the event internally, and I'm sure that the lack of this kind of scrutiny only adds fuel to the fire of morons like Candace Owens and other actual anti-semites out there pushing their braindead theories.

There is a ton of uproar. It's literally one of the most talked about issues in Israel since Oct 7th.

It's like asking how Trump got elected after January 6th. When you have a lot of idiots + high levels of anti-establishment sentiment + high levels of populism + hyper-optimized grifting, you get the media environment of present day, whether it be Israel or the US.

And it really depends on which way that sentiment flows if we’re looking down the line. And that’s not especially predictable? Going off what you said, polling I’ve looked at etc it feels both that things could swing to some kinda centre/centre left normalcy, or even further right.

Just so i have a vague gauge on things, no pressure haha

My hit rate on British politics in the last 10 years has been shockingly poor. And the one thing I correctly predicted in Brexit I’d rather have been wrong on!

A bit of a digression but I had a terrible feeling about the Brexit vote but refused to believe the Brits would be so foolish, oh well, you live and you learn. After that as soon as I saw that Trump started winning Republican primaries I was telling people that the Home Alone 2 guy is going to be the leader of the free world and everyone laughed at me.

I just looked it up and saw that there are protests (not on the scale of the previous ones regarding the justice reform but that's not the point) and that the opposition is out in full force trying to force this issue, and I hope they will.

I hope it works, I hope an independent commission comes with a report before the election or that the lack of one just tanks Likud's chances and Nethyanahu faces justice, first for his corruption and then responsibility for making the moves ahead of October 7th (and many years before, with him being on board with allowing support for Hamas in Gaza) and gets sent to the history books as a piece of shit he is, never to be heard from again.

It's literally a month after the final living hostages were released. There's already considerable debate and Israeli High Court involvement over how the commission is structured. The opposition candidates have already criticized what they feel is too much influence by Netanyahu at this planning stage. So, I think the most obvious stance is that the commission must be independent from involved parties in the failures leading up to October 7th, or the opposition parties will commission their own once Netanyahu's Likud leaves power. And they'll have considerable political momentum to take power if Netanyahu & allies succeed in tainting the investigation.

I'll add one last reason why the opposition doesn't get a free win in the minds of the voters. The opposition itself can be so discredited or corrupt and ineffective that they don't earn the votes in reactionary sentiment. I recall the collapse of the left in Israel following the Second Intifada. They could have been the better choice for years afterwards, but voters trusted them even less from past failures. I don't lay most of the blame at idiots/populism/grifting/media failure, or whatever those targeted by such invective would have to say back at you.

Pure vibes. For me it was just living here, and experiencing decades of our media culture.

The anti-EU side of the ledger was spamming negative stuff the whole time, and we only started to really get a concerted pro-EU message in the much shorter timeframe leading up to the referendum.

I just thought more groundwork was done, and the leave side of the ledger were more invested, and that would likely tell.

Which you did somewhat see. Plus as the polling tended to show a win for Remain I think folks got complacent, indeed it was semi-common to hear of people who regretted staying home, and who wouldn’t have done so if they thought it was properly in play.

I don’t think going off vibes alone is a great approach, but I do think it can give some insight.

Realistically for most of us who don’t really make a concerted effort to follow goings-on in foreign lands, it’s only the US that you get enough media from to get any kind of intuitive feel of things.

Hence why I think it’s important to hear from Israeli voices as to how things are looking domestically there, or anyone else in other scenarios.
