I may be nihilistic, but we can just slow down the spread to keep the burden a bit lower on health care, while destroying everything else. I don't believe it's worth it. on a personal note : 4-week trip to Thailand is maintained for now, until Thailand refuses us. We would be fine with a 14-day quarantine on arrival, as we have a house ready near my in-laws, but at the latest news they require a health certificate from a doctor, that you have been followed for 14-days and you have been tested negatively less than 2 days before arrival. 1- we are spending 3 days in Oman first, so it's impossible 2- there is no way to get tested when you are in good health since the amount of tests are currently limited. These requirements are nearly impossible to satisfy. (France isn't yet on the list of diseased countries but it's only a matter of time as we are 10 days behind italy. We are supposed to leave in 14 days...) For the stock market : even if it's "diversified", as long as everything is on the stock market, it's a bad choice. Get some savings accounts, some stocks, some real estate. That is diversifying.

Honestly atm I'm roughly 50-ish% savings account (pulled most of my money back about a month ago) 2-3% crypto and 45% stock market. IDK how to own real estate short of buying property and I'm don't have that kind of money.

If you wait for it to get real bad(eg. hospitals full), before implement full lockdown procedures, you'll be 1-2 weeks too late to stop the medical system from collapsing. Even if everybody else had no contact from that point onwards, at an R0 of 2.0, you'll be somewhere between 2-3x what hospitals can handle in terms of caseload(assuming some patients have recovered enough to be released) in a week or two. That's when people start dying of survivable conditions, and it gets scary real fast because if the doctors have to decide between a 35 year old and a 65 year old, they're going to give the 35 year old a ventilator and the 65 year old is terminal.

All the talks are about a temporary cancellation but I don't really see why things would be better in a month. Or two months.

It seems impossible to contain or isolate all cases. So is the endgame that everyone has either resisted the infection or died from it? Is the endgame a vaccine that even in hopeful terms is more than a year away? Are we just going to not have any events or travel for the rest of the year? All the talks are about a temporary cancellation but I don't really see why things would be better in a month. Or two months. Regardless of what 2 months from now looks like, we can say with confidence we need to shut it all down right now. Everything is a total shit show and this is the best we can do.
