I'm not saying there's no legitimate threat and not to take it seriously, I'm saying half the power that authoritarians have come from people overestimating them. Trump is a living Potemkin village and should be treated as such. His own supporters are calling him TACO (Trump Always Chickens Out) behind his back.
I disagree entirely. Most of the power they get comes from people underestimating them. If the threat posed by Trump had been properly understood he’d be in prison where he belongs.
He perfectly walks the line between bumbling idiot and fascist threat.
So he can be a nazi, but it's just a prank bro!... or is it?
It reminds me of an article I now can’t find in which a journalist recalls an instance of Boris Johnson making a speech to some organization, forgetting his notes, and completely fumbling the punchline of a joke in such a disarming and clownish way that everyone in the audience laughed with Boris. The journalist happened to catch Boris at a different event a month later and Boris again fumbled the exact same joke in the exact same way. It’s a performance. A social hack to bypass mental safeguards. The equivalent of putting on a high vis jacket and walking past security.
Or, here me out on this. Trump is a spoiled nepo baby who was frittering away his family fortune with terrible business move after terrible business move. And then reality TV showed up and pretended he was a great business man and the very stupid public bought it in spite of all the evidence to the contrary.

Nazi is the wrong word. Ruthless jingoist warmonger seems to be a better fit, although it's pretty close. There hasn't been evidence that he wants to exterminate jews, but if there were, it died in prison.
I think most of what he does or believes he does for is for economical reasons though. The ends justify the means or something like that.
It‘s not like wars aren‘t a driver of the economy for some, but the intervals between them are getting worrisomely short.
Donald Trump appointed a new board of trustees to the Kennedy Center, who are now trying to illegally rename the Kennedy Center to "The Donald J. Trump and The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts".
"Days after returning to office, Trump announced an aggressive plan to gut the existing board of trustees and oust its chairman, the billionaire philanthropist David Rubenstein. ... He installed a who’s who of loyalists — including new president Richard Grenell, his ambassador to Germany during his first term ... Congress renamed the arts center after former President John F. Kennedy in legislation passed after his 1963 assassination, and federal law requires that the board “assure that after December 2, 1983, no additional memorials or plaques in the nature of memorials shall be designated or installed in the public areas of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.” Experts told CNN that while the board’s decision Thursday was likely unlawful, it’s unclear whether someone looking to challenge the move would have the legal right – known as “standing” – to even pursue such a case. “There is absolutely no way they can do this legally,” said David Super, a professor at Georgetown Law who specializes in legislation. But, he added, “the administration is not concerning itself with laws unless it has a realistic prospect of getting sued.”" https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/18/politics/trump-kennedy-center-name
You obviously know much more about this stuff than me, but isn't this just one of those procedural things? It is done every year, but if the boss doesn't sign off on it it doesn't happen kinda things? Same way as how I , every single year, get an EXCEPTIONAL anticipation of my salary in December, where they pay it somewhere near the middle of the month instead of on the last day (the contractual obligation).
Well, it sure seems like Trump is on a blitz trying to buy some good will ahead of the Epstein files release (which seems will be delayed because Johnson sent the house home early) and the start of attacks on Venezuela proper.
He's re-classified Marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III which is absolutely great, shame on Biden for not doing it, shame on Obama for allowing Feds to raid dispensaries in states where it was medically legalized, I think everyone here knows how much I despise the orange shit but at least he's doing some things right, even if it's only to distract and buy good will ahead of doing fucked up shit.
EDIT: Well, I guess I fell for this as well, he didn't actually re-classify it because he doesn't have the authority to do so, he just signed EO saying it's now re-classified.
Apparently Biden instructed Merrick Garland to do this but the whole thing got tangled up between DEA, congress and a bunch of other agencies and it didn't happen, and now Trump just wrote an EO basically doing the same.
It's absolutely bonkers this is how the US system works.

Similar to how DOGE worked, they didn't have the actual legal authority to come into buildings, install their malware and Starlink antennas but they did, and cops helped them when people in those buildings tried to stop them.
He has no legal authority to change the name, no one will call it that but he will sure as fuck put his name above Kennedy's because he really, really wanted to.
I used to love watching these Kennedy center induction concerts, recently came across this one, I get a pit in my stomach thinking of this orange piece of shit doing his moronic thumb dance as Kash Patel's GF howls the one popular Kid Rock song that he borrowed form Rolling Stones.
I came across this great performance recently and will just put it here as a pallet cleanser:

trump's presidency in a nutshell
Odds are very good that a donation was made for the reclassification.
But if he paralyzes the DEA by demanding they work towards the fuhrer on this then that effectively turns it over to the states, no?
Though legal ambiguity has always been used by dictators to make everyone guilty of something and selectively enforce against enemies.

trump's presidency in a nutshell
Trump's inaugural Hunger Games Patriot Games sounds like it might be the "fun" version of this.
In a video announcement Thursday, Trump declared that, to ring in the United States’ 250th birthday, the nation will host the first-ever “Patriot Games,” an “unprecedented four-day athletic event” featuring high school athletes, one boy and one girl, from each state and territory.
He also made sure to add in a dash of his signature transphobia: “But I promise there will be no men playing in women’s sports. You’re not going to see that.”
The games, will be hosted by Freedom250, a newly established subsidiary of the National Park Foundation, as part of a wider Trumpian 250th anniversary extravaganza, to include a prayer event at the National Mall—meant to “rededicate our country as one nation under God”—and the debut of an “Arc de Trump,” a landmark designed to resemble France’s Arc de Triomphe, only bigger.
“Arc de Trump,” a landmark designed to resemble France’s Arc de Triomphe, only bigger.
It will never cease to amaze me that USA managed to elect the tackiest moron in the world.
By the end of this term it would absolutely be par for the course for him to order construction of a gold statue of himself pointing the middle finger across the ocean right next to the statue of liberty.

You think too expensively here. Why not just replace the head and the hand for the statue instead? That would be much more in his style.
Like with most of Trump’s life history, The Apprentice really fucked up the US public. Despite being a real estate tycoon, he built very little and most of his buildings were just him slapping his name on pre-existing structures.
I know he wants the ballroom as a monument to himself but I wouldn’t be surprised if it never gets built as reports keep suggesting they have no idea what they actually want. Despite everything, he’s not an accomplished big project developer and he’s going to fuck things up if he specifically wants to have personal input into the project.

I'd say no, not really. It would be fairly common for a president to give Friday off following a Thursday Christmas holiday... but in this case he gave Wednesday and Friday, which is highly unusual. Even giving just Friday is entirely a choice of Trump's, without anything automatic about it.

In that case I'd say he feels remorse over shutting down government and furloughing everyone with no plan. And then, after the democrats finally fold a month later, he agreed to their only demand just one week later, demonstrating the whole shutdown was entirely unnecessary and he was being a belligerent petty asshole. But... remorse isn't in his vocabulary, so I am out of ideas.
