LOL Trump straight up asked to say if he believes Putin or his own intelligence agencies and if the latter to denounce Putin in front of the world.

Trump goes into a rant about some missing servers. He briefly mentions that he doesn't know who to believe and that he doesn't see any reason why Russia would hack the election. He then goes back to the missing servers and Clintins emails. Then he finishes by saying that Putin was really sure that they didn't and even offered to help with the investigation, as if that proves something.

As expected, he choose not to believe his own Intel over Putin. Its possible he isn't a Russian shill, but if he was this is what he would likely say.

Edit: AP reporter asked Putin to his face if he has compromising data on Trumps family. This press conference is peak 2018.

He got asked straight up "do you blame Russia for anything?" Trump said Russia "made some mistakes" and that "the witch hunt is disastrous for our country."

Then he ranted about Clinton and said the electoral college significantly advantages Democrats.

He just couldn't bring himself to blame Russian for anything and shifted blame to the investigation. Shame that conservatives are ok with this. A decade or two ago if a President said this after such an attack on our democracy they would have been the first to call out its treasonous nature.

Edit: Putin said he'd allow Mueller to come to Russia and question the 12 intelligence officers. Just LOL.

This part right here is hilarious. Even if the US were game, he would never allow it to happen. Putin is a liar, but some people will take this at face value.

I believe Putin actually said he'd do the questioning of the 12 GRU officers for Mueller and inform Mueller of the results.

This entire press conference is insane.

That is even funnier. The fact that we are having a joint press conference with the guy who is trying to undermine our democracy is something else.

Final takeaway on our relationship with Russia per Trump: "both sides have made mistakes." The Charlottesville defense... that's as far as he'd go. He equates our actions as being equivalent to what Russia did. Great job representing the US.

The thing I love out this trip to the EU is that Trump dunked on every once of our allies for not doing enough. But they didn't try to influence our elections through covert means. They didn't even get points for that.

That was the dumbest question asked during the press conference. Let's just presume that Putin does have something on Trump. Is there a snowball's chance in hell that Putin, a former KGB intelligence officer, is going to divulge that?

No, but that doesnt mean the question isnt worth asking. Its still interesting to examine the answer he DOES come up with.

All Putin did was predictably shame the reporter for asking a retarded question. How is that interesting?

I think you misunderstand the role of the free press when dealing with an autocratic dictator like Putin, who never have to deal with the free press.. There are not there to ask questions that he is willing to answer. They are absolutely not supposed to be an extension of the Russia PR efforts.

What does the role of the free press have to do with a reporter asking a singularly retarded question that is going to do nothing other than prompt a shaming from said dictator whom the reporter is supposed to actually be challenging?

Nope. That's why I prefer it when reporters ask Putin about crimes that the Kremlin is well known to have committed, so that he has to lie or deflect from the obvious truth.

The really interesting questions at this press conference were all asked to Trump anyways.

Wooooow. The Trump - Putin summit is 1000% more nuts than I expected.

I need to know who this god tier reporter is, because that is an amazing question.

Edit: Putin is now lecturing the Associated Press on what democracy is...this shit is wild.

That was the dumbest question asked during the press conference. Let's just presume that Putin does have something on Trump. Is there a snowball's chance in hell that Putin, a former KGB intelligence officer, is going to divulge that?

It was interesting insofar as we got to see the reaction of both men. Obviously he wasn't going to give an answer but I'd wager they never expected somebody would have the nerve to ask.

The question that mattered was the one before that. Trump was given a clear choice between believing the intelligence agencies of his country and our allies or Putin. He not only hedged, he partially defended Russia. It's difficult to put into words how big a deal it SHOULD be that the US President would do that. Especially after the NATO shitshow.

XDaunt's response tells you all you need to know about why it isn't. I get the impression a lot of Americans don't trust their intelligence services anyway.

Field reporters do not view their efforts individual, but as a group. That they are not scared of Putin or his goons and they are going to ask the ex-KGB director questions about what dirt he might have on other leaders, even if he won't tell them. That way, if the dirt turns up later, they can say Putin lied about it. And not for nothing, there are a lot of unexplained deaths of reporters in Russia.

And why would a reporter every care about being shamed by Putin or literally anyone else at a press conference? Do you know the amount of shit that gets thrown there way when the camera's turn off?

I think Americans in general would like to trust them, but there has been a real problem with oversight and transparency since 9/11. Personally, I trust them more for counter intelligence than intelligence gathering.

I sure wouldn't go anywhere alone while they are in Russia tho, if I were that reporter.

Let me see if I can explain it to you differently. If the role of the free press is to challenge people like Putin, do reporters not fail in their role when they do not ask questions that actually challenge people like Putin?

Putin and Russia are already on record saying that the dossier is false and that they don't have kompromat on Trump. For that reason, the question that the reporter asked served no purpose other than to offer himself up for humiliation and utter failure in challenging a dictator. It was embarrassing by any measure. But hey, if you prefer virtue-signalling instead of actual results, perhaps you'll think that the reporter's question was a wild success.
