Either way I expect he is quite mad at the lack of attention.

However, Gaetz has said that Mccarthy does not have 200 votes to become speaker of the house. I can't see a world where he wins, and this election could not have gone much worse for him, he is now irrelevant as a politician, with his party abandoning him. The good news, the "election deniers" might have been opportunists rather than true believers. Now when that narrative did not win them elections, they might just abandon it all together. Unfortunately, his announcement means even more Trump in the media, and he'll say a lot of outrageous things to steal headlines. Bah.

When we vote in switzerland we usually know the results between 15.00 to 17.00 of the same day.

Republicans undermine any sort of election reform and insist on counting paper balots in the first counting. They could start counting mail-in ballots beforehand and digitize counting with a paper backup but republicans insist that would cause more fraud. Trump literally said that higher voting levels would hurt republicans. And again states do the elections themselves and then delegate it to the counties to run in most cases. Some states are just bad at it or get bad at it. Most nations do the elections at the federal level and have a unified system for everything below them to do it in the same way.

Curing ballots that would otherwise be discarded is going to end up being a big factor in whether Boebert is reelected, for instance.

How does that actually work with elections being secret? Ideally at the point where you notice that the ballot is invalid, you no longer know who sent it. And it is kind of weird imo. Here in Germany, ballots which have not arrived by 18:00 on election day are not counted. But on the other hand, our systems also work, so this is only a problem if you are too stupid to put your ballot in the mail 2 days before. And even then you could still vote on election day.

Its about identification prior to opening the actual ballot to prevent fraudulent votes, and not about the actual checkmark on the ballot being wrong, because indeed at that point you should no longer be able to know who the voter is.How does that actually work with elections being secret? First there was this: ![]() And today they covered Trump’s presidential bid with a small note on the front page reading 'Florida man makes announcement', before describing him as a retired golfer, mar-a-Lago as a classified documents library, and mocked his eating habits (his cholesterol levels are unknown, but his favorite food is a charred steak with ketchup). Obviously the NY post is still as garbagy of a tabloid as it gets - but them eviscerating Trump is highly amusing. And promising, too - I can't picture Trump winning with murdoch media absolutely killing him, I have a very hard time picturing the Trump cultists - many in number - supporting other candidates if Trump gets this treatment, and I can't picture Trump abandoning ship quietly if he is disgraced by his own.

It's also possible DeSantis believes that, with all things considered, he's better off waiting for 2028 and being the obvious frontrunner instead of a 2024 no holds barred brawl with Trump while Democrats (with varying amounts of reluctancy) rally around Biden. Without DeSantis in the race Trump is hands down the nominee (probably even if he were in jail).
