I know I'm being greedy but definitely foresee this as a consequence of this total republican party meltdown. For example, universal health care...there are a lot of corporations lobbying against that. If Trump and his supporters are so awful, how about we support candidates that aren't as bad, but won't consider anything like UHC because they accept our donations? Man, you're gonna hate this next guy we got coming in 12 days..

+ Show Spoiler + Disclaimer, it is of course a parody account - but it was believable enough that no one realized that at first.

The memo says there must be unanimous consent from every senator to participate in an impeachment trial before January 19 (if I'm reading this correctly). Otherwise, the impeachment occurs during the first days of Biden's presidency and they'll be arguing to strip Trump of his Secret Service protection, his pension and right to hold office from what I'm reading outside of the memo. Schumer would be Senate Majority Leader by then, and it would probably tangle Biden down when he would love to get to work on passing the stimulus and moving for pandemic relief. https://twitter.com/seungminkim/status/1347722877521567747 So they're planning to punt it to Biden so they can try and make it a completely partisan thing and try and keep their Trump base? Republicans are scumbags and even in one of the darkest hours in modern American history they're choosing to protect their own power over holding one of their own accountable from incitement of a literal coup. Christ.

Yes Cruz, Biden's vicious rhetoric is the problem for calling you out. Not yours for getting several people killed and dozens wounded.

Lets let the Republicans talk about unity for once, frankly I want to see Democrats become aggressive and adversarial in their exertion of power much in the way that Republicans are. Pin them as fascists, always, always, always frame them as fascist coup-inciters. Democrats should be on a non-stop offensive focusing almost exclusively on every Senator and every House GOP member that voted against certifying the election results. Never give Republicans the opportunity to frame things, always have them on the back foot. Turn the tables for once, and try and force some electoral gains out of this egregious display of party solidarity in support of proto-fascist insurrectionists.

These companies put Trump in charge by deliberately spreading heinously stupid conspiracy theory, allowing precious user information to find its way to the likes of Cambridge Analytica, and then supported his presidency and celebrated every single time he got them in the news with whatever he was posting on social media. What's the point in just banning Trump when he's got thousands of supporters saying the same things right now this second on Twitter? Okay i get its kinda necessary, but in all honesty they just want the kudos, and they should and could do much, much more.

Twitter, Facebook and Google are not good actors here. They are in a PR arms race. And? Who gives a shit? Someone doing good for the wrong reasons is still doing good. This absolute nonsense of "yeah but they're not meaning it" is so aggravating, equal to "he has 50 million, so why is he only donating 1 million, what an asshole". In fact, they don't get much kudos either. Everywhere you look people are actually calling them out for not reacting sooner, so i don't see your point at all in the first place. Two companies having near complete control on what the whole world consumes on their phones is fucked up though, we'll have to deal with this problem and its inherent extortion at some point. They don't, though. They have control over what apps you can download, information usually doesn't come from apps but from websites. I don't think i've ever used an app, ever, to consume news.

It could be like saying 'he gave 1 million to rape victims but then he also spent the last year giving 49 million to defend rapists in court' Twitter CREATED this problem, and the negative effects of that are going to last way longer than the positive effects of banning Trump now, and there's absolutely nothing stopping the same thing from happening again.
