One has to have standards, right? This is what it looks like when someone can no longer defend Trump's Twitter use but still wants to pretend they have an argument. You'll note that the question posed is no longer whether Twitter was right to ban Trump's account but whether Twitter was wrong to not ban the account of an unspecified Chinese official for some unspecified tweets. Flawlessly executed whataboutism. and this is what it looks like when you went straight for my second edit and pretended I didn't say anything before. Perfectly executed. That edit was when the discussion changed from whether Twitter should have banned Trump to whether Twitter was banned in Iran as if that has any bearing on the issue. You started that tangent and it's not like you tripped and fell on your keyboard. It was a deliberate attempt to change the subject with some absurd whataboutism which should be called out.
It was an aside, as I've said now my primary point in addressing it is to clear up an apparent confusion.
I stand by what I said before, it was a dumb decision they have the right to make, and it will make things worse not better.

Sure. Once the followers of the iranian and chinese official accounts storm their respective governmental buildings, ban them. You'd have a hard time proving it though considering twitter is banned in both countries in the first place. Oops. Alright was gonna drop it but one last thing... Except of course, you and everyone else here thinks it should have happened a long time ago, before he instigated anything. Many of those accounts post horrible things that are in violation of twitter's rules, whether or they are going to make Iranians march in the streets. That's really not the main point though, of course. I’ve thought trump is a net negative for society and that his Twitter account made the world a worse place, but full on banning has been a maybe for me until he actually caused observable violence.
I’m really curious what this does to his influence. Once he’s not president, Twitter deleted, parler in shambles, does he just guest appear on fox all the time? Make his own social media website?
Another interesting question is whether or not this big dog pile on trump means he may actually get impeached. Politicians see him as a useful idiot that can get them primary’d. He’s losing influence quickly. Are republicans at a point where they can safely begin to pull the bandaid off in preparation for 2024? Rubio or Romney might be able to beat Harris.

This is absolutely stupid.
Of course it will make things better. It will only make things worse if you think Trump would've become "un-unhinged" after he left the white house. If he sticks to being Trump, his tweets wouldn't have gotten better, he would've more and more spread bullshit claims, riling his base up again/and more.

Fox have Oliver North, a literal traitor who sold missiles to Iran, on all the time so the bar has already been set somewhere deep in a trench.

Google has banned Parler from their store after Apple gave Parler 24 hours notice.
Parler also crashed once Trump was banned from twitter due to a traffic surge. However, I think Parler is going to be dead due to this within a few weeks. It's a lot easier to monetize an app than a website, and even the much more popular twitter is running at a loss. Getting banned from Apple and Google means they stand a decent chance of getting banned by their ISP.
Also, their CEO is a fucking moron.
Parler CEO John Matze suggested his company did not intend to acquiesce to Apple’s demand, writing in a post on his platform, “We will not cave to pressure from anti-competitive actors! We will and always have enforced our rules against violence and illegal activity. But we WONT cave to politically motivated companies and those authoritarians who hate free speech!
“Anyone who buys an Apple phone is apparently a user [of Parler],” he added. “Apperantly they know what is best for you by telling you which apps you may and may not use.”

Wow, Trump ban AND Parler getting hit, thats a double whammy of lol.
I do slightly fear for the possibility Parler finds a way to continue to exist in a niche way where its used to by extremists with significantly less visibility to their madness, though.

I honestly think we are witnessing the fall of the Trump political empire, so I'd like to start theory crafting a bit:
I think it’s unlikely that republicans retake Wisconsin. I think the Midwest is vulnerable to fascist low info thinking and republicans will need another demagogue to take it back. And if Georgia and Arizona stay blue, the situation may already be a check mate for democrats. Harris running as a semi incumbent is interesting, especially since she would theoretically be able to be in office 12 years. If she won her first election, it’s possible she would build Merkel’esque momentum by being the steady hand of the country where things are mostly fine.
In order for Harris to make that happen, the Midwest will need a lot of investment to get rid of their anti-elite sentiment that allowed Trump to win.
Personally, I would like to see Democrats abuse federal funding to give ridiculous investments to the midwest. A lot of fabs are being built in Texas lately, notably by Samsung. Texas is basically saying "come get ur free shit" and people are flocking. Use the federal government to subsidize shitty states that no one has any legitimate interest in. Stuff like the Foxconn plant was a good idea, but the government didn't have enough negotiating power and got fucked. I'd like to see a heavy hand being used to artificially inject manufacturing jobs into the states that have been left behind. If Biden/Harris can focus on the Midwest during the next 4 years, Harris can win re-election by ignoring Florida, which I believe is officially a red state forever.
White/religious Hispanics flocked to Trump for the same reason they won't flock to Harris. This whole "hispanics are kind of like black voters" needs to die. Hispanics vote as religious, semi-white people, not as minorities. Give up on Texas and Florida and focus on keeping the others safe. Georgia, Arizona and the Midwest is GG no matter what. Democrats can afford to lose Arizona in 2024 if they keep GA/WI/MN/MI
Harris favored in Georgia most likely, then just solidify Midwest, ignore Florida and GG

Man all the tech companies growing some balls one day after Trump concedes is pretty hilarious. Should have happened four years ago but better late than never. I'm also curious how the stalwart defenders of the free market will react now that some private firms have decided to end their voluntary association with a few customers. One of the more notable developments around Trumpism is that most of the voterbase is economically disenfranchised, the center of the economy has moved away from classical industries to tech which is dominated by liberals, and how that is going to be combined with the quite radical free-market ideology on the right.

Discord banned a server called TheDonald too. Same general reason of not wanting to platform people who incite and perform in armed insurrections.
I think its safe to say hes not going to be welcome on any mainstream social media platform at this rate. We'll see if Facebook has the balls to ban him too, though, I could see them keeping him around.

I like how this was the point of no return for twitter and not his threatening to nuke North Korea or to wipe out Iran's cultural heritage sites.

The confusing part is all the people going on about the free market seem pretty pissy about the free market cutting its losses.
Look let’s be honest these people have a completely incoherent set of demands they expect society to meet. They seem to equate a free market with a free speech free for all, which isn’t how it works.
All Trumpism is is falsely promising you can reverse the trends of global capitalism really. Ultimately global capitalism doesn’t fucking care, if China or whoever else can do your job as well for less money then hey, that’s what happens.
At least I have the benefit of hating global capitalism and at least vaguely getting how it works.
These fucking imbeciles simultaneously love it and are gurning that it’s not working as intended

Now Google (With Apple setting a deadline as well) has removed Parler from the play store. So that is now a closed community if Trump and Co. decide to go there.
|
They don't believe in free speech at all. They just want consequence free speech for themselves and their allies. Their sites have always had the harshest moderation I've ever even heard of. Non Trumpists are driven out asap.

Wait are you saying those rural workers, disgruntled americans, voted against their own interest all this time ? Free market and 0 government help should really be life changing no ? I'm sure that unlike all those farmers in europe, theyre not living thanks to government handouts. What about plants just dumping chemicals in their water ? Free market babyy

Parler isn't owned by any of those, but you wouldn't be able to load it on your iphone anymore if Apple keeps the ban. You can still side load things without the play store on android, but I'm not sure how tech savvy the parler user base is.

The relevant intelligence agencies will find it regardless and the more hidden it is the less random people stumble onto it.
Grandma reads the dumb conspiracy shit on facebook, she won't read it on the deep web.

And Reddit has also banned the r/donaldtrump subreddit.

It had been quarantined for almost a year anyways. Until ISPs shut down its replacement there's not really any escalation left.
Edit: guess I was wrong, they took down the potus twitter account due to ban dodging lol
