while i wouldnt say weed is addictive, i would say its habit forming, which to be honest is pretty much the same thing. and there definitely are some side effects to stopping (not being able to sleep being the main one. but you do get some awesome dreams when you finally do get to sleep).
stalkingdoom I take it you are one of those very rare breeds of people who are completely tea total. You dont drink booze or coffee? because if you do i'm afraid to break it to you, but you take drugs
Habit forming and addictive are NOT the same thing. Shopping can be habit forming; video games can be habit forming; sex can be habit forming (if you're lucky!); watching crappy neverending shows like Lost or the Sopranos can be habit forming.
Addictive, on the other hand, refers to specific biophysical interactions. Nicotine is addictive; alcohol is addictive; caffeine is addictive. In all of these cases, a regular user who suddenly stops will experience an extremely unpleasant physical reaction (in the case of alcohol it can even be fatal).
Marijuana is not addictive. If a regular smoker suddenly goes cold turkey he/she will experience some discomfort, but be generally fine. For example I sometimes have to stop smoking for 2-3 day intervals due to family or travel. After 24 hours without weed my symptoms are:
lack of appetite strangely clear head
Compare that to the first day a cigarette smoker quits smoking, or a coffee drinker stops drinking, and it's not even close. And that's without even mentioning more seriously addictive substances like alcohol, heroin, speed, etc.
ALL OF THAT SAID, even if weed is 'addictive' in some sense, addiction is not instrinsically a bad thing. So long as one's addictions don't mess up the priorities of their life, then who cares? I know plenty of successful, happy people who drink a mug of coffee or toke a spliff every day of their life. There are even a fair amount of happy, successful alcohol users in our society, and alcohol is 100x as dangerous as weed.
In summary, 'addictive' and 'drug' are both words we should be very careful with, as they both lend themselves to ignorant generalizations about diverse phenomena.
EDIT, mofisto, even though I quoted your comment, this rant is not directed at you in particular.

I drank absinthe which is supposed to make you hallucinate and I like to hallucinate.
Doesn't really measure up.

See how absurd that sounds? We keep our smoking habit under control the same way we handle our gaming hobby. It's a nice thing to inform/educate yourself before applying generalizations to your opinion.

I take your point pal, but i disagree mate.
addiction: being abnormally tolerant to and dependent on something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming
or :The condition of being habitually or compulsively occupied with or or involved in something
Im not against weed, ive been a smoker for the past 13 years. Ive always prefered weed to booze because i like being in control of my actions, but even in my hazy state i recognise that i have a habit

Yea but Mofisto, if either of those definitions of addiction is the one we go by, then pretty much everything can be considered addictive...in which case, it's not really a useful description anymore, is it? That's why generic dictionary definitions of 'addiction' are insufficient for this discussion. Check out this distinction instead, made by the World Health Organization in the context of drugs:
Drug addiction is a state of periodic or chronic intoxication produced by the repeated consumption of a drug (natural or synthetic). Its characteristics include: (i) an overpowering desire or need (compulsion) to continue taking the drug and to obtain it by any means; (ii) a tendency to increase the dose; (iii) a psychic (psychological) and generally a physical dependence on the effects of the drug; and (iv) detrimental effects on the individual and on society.
Drug habituation (habit) is a condition resulting from the repeated consumption of a drug. Its characteristics include (i) a desire (but not a compulsion) to continue taking the drug for the sense of improved well-being which it engenders; (ii) little or no tendency to increase the dose; (iii) some degree of psychic dependence on the effect of the drug, but absence of physical dependence and hence of an abstinence syndrome [withdrawal], and (iv) detrimental effects, if any, primarily on the individual.
So yes, like you said, you have a marijuana habit. So do I (cheers!). But when we're talking about substance abuse, what you have is NOT an addiction.

Fair enough mate, you've convinced me. Now lets go feed our habits

Coffee/Tea is a drug?!..... I have been taking either two cups of tea or coffee everyday for decades. And I simply can't believe it. I have skipped several teas without any headache or craving for it. Habit forming is possible with large quantities of coffee/tea daily, say 6-8 cups coffee/tea per day over years. One more thing- I wasn't trying to judge people who take weed or other stuff. That truly wasn't my intention.

The caffeine and theobromine in tea is actually much more addictive than many of the classic addictive substances. Heroin and Methamphetamine are the two well known substances that are more addictive than caffeine and theobromine. However every other type of stimulant (including cocaine, lisdex and dexamphetamine, and MDMA) are less addictive than caffeine.
I've done just about everything and gotten over it. However if i go for more than a couple days with my cup of coffee i get a terrible headache and turn into an asshole. It's the only substance i've ever been addicted for a long period of time, and because it's cheap and legal i find that it has way more power over me than stimulants made to sound absolutely nefarious by the fear mongering media (meth, 4-mmc aka mephedrone, and bk-mdma aka methylone), all of which i've tried.

I'm face with a dilemma. I have $43, and I'm not really sure what I should buy with it.
I got three different dealers.. One sells reggie and I can get a half a zone for $20, and a whole zone for $40. Problem is there are seeds and stems and its doesn't have too much buds its more broken down parts of buds, not connected together if you know what I mean. Its not brown like straight brick, but it is dark green, and a whole zone doesn't even reek that bad. I've smoked this weed and its really social weed, and thats a bonus cause I like smoking with people.
The other dealer is a skater who is high all the time. His weed goes for $10/gram, and it actually smells better then my friends weed which I will describe next. It is light green and has a crazy amount of hairs... I never actually smoked this weed but I did go with my friend when he bought a dime and the weed looked pretty good, id say high middies-low dank. Thing is this guy says he'll hook it up for $25 so I don't even what kind of discount I would get with $40.
Next is a friend of mine, his weed is DANK! Problem is, it goes for $20/gram, which is a lot of money for such little weed. You can see the THC even if you don't look closely and I've smoked his weed too, and its called "Diamond Cut" or "Diamond Kush" something like that, I don't really pay attention to names. Well, when I smoked it I can definitely taste the difference from the weed thats $20/half and this. It tasted very good, I loved the aroma of the smoke too. With two hits I was pretty lifted, but again, the price for a gram really ruins it for me.
Which weed would you TL smokers buy?

go for the diamond kush lol

make more money, and buy it all
