My friend has convinced me to quit smoking weed, I realize this is not the BEST place to ask.. but any of you all had success in doing so??? (prefer a not-high answer, but I'll take what I can get)

Don't get me wrong, I love weed... I'm just not in a good position to be getting high as often as I otherwise would.

Cheers, I'll be up watching Zero vs. Free... not baked...

Weed isn't for everybody. If you cant keep it under control then its best to stay away. I commend you on making such a hard decision.

I am currently on a month long break, and I'm not gonna sugar coat it. It was harder to quit than I thought it'd be. That being said there are obviously no withdrawal symptoms and I haven't yet "relapsed." I think the problem is more a matter of habit and letting the THC get out of your system which can take a long time.

However, I have noticed that my mood and general mental state is much easier to swing in the balance. I really think weed is a healthful product for me and I do plan to restart after my break is up. Perhaps down the road I'll take another longer one, but for now I could really use a hit or two.

I have managed to be without it for like 4-5 months but came back again on vacations.

Its super easier if for some reason you shut down all connections you have with weed, stop talking to anyone who can give you some weed, and try not doing the stuff you are used to be doing under weed normally.

Dont try to stop by doing everything you always do, but with a "no weed" mindset, thats the quickest way back to using it. You gotta change your habits, at least initially.

I would say when you take a break / quit the first week is the hardest, after that it is really no problem. Keep yourself occupied with healthy activities and surround yourself with people who don't need to do drugs on a daily basis. If you still show up at your nightly circle and choose to pass on the L, I commend you for that but it is not going to make it any easier when you can smell it in the air.

quitting this seems harder than quitting starcraft. we all know there's no pharmacological habit forming mechanism, but i'm still hopelessly addicted. i've maintained about one hit every 6 hours very regularly for the past year or more, rarely smoking more than that. even at these (relatively) low doses, one day without it leaves me absolutely crippled and as miserable as i used to be, and i can't imagine stopping - i would be forced to find something else. it's a cop-out, it's a crutch, but the realization that i could safely modulate my consciousness at will to increase my quality of life was probably the most liberating moment i've had in my life. everything has been better since i started, ranging from energy levels, happiness, goals, social anxiety. implausible, but a much more pessimistic evaluation would still grudgingly admit a net benefit.

i'm curious: how did your friend convince you to quit? i do find it dangerous that i am so completely reliant on something, but i've yet to find a strong argument to stop. does the habit become unsustainable as you get older?

I know exactly how you feel. I have had a very similar experience with pot. Quitting is very tough, but I have done it before. Last spring I quit for 2.5 months because I couldn't afford pot due to being broke. I also have tried quitting a couple other times only lasting a few days. The first few days really are the toughest, but then you get to the point(rather quickly) where your body no longer needs it to feel normal. I was doing so good until my brother hooked me up with some cheap pot. On morning of day 4 I needed to get high. Thats how long it took to get addicted again. 3 fucking days of smoking and my body had to have it.
Quitting for me means having to pull an all nighter because I cant sleep, which makes it so much tougher to deal with then if it was just a feeling of needing to get high.

I quit weed for a month, quite easily. Mostly to make sure I could. It was very boring, however. I came back to it because I wanted to.

Oh, and when I quit I was still taking adderall. It would probably be harder to quit now that I don't take adderall.

One little thought i'd throw out there for regular users of cannabis looking to quit is that it is possible to remember how you approach and appreciate things when you are stoned. Why not treat getting stoned like a psychedelic trip? as something you bring back nice perspectives you hadn't dreamed up in your sober state?

Why not make a conscious effort to appreciate things the way you would when stoned?

That being said, why toss it out of your life? why not just learn how not to be dependent?

Yo man, I smoked weed for 3 years straight all day EVERYDAY. My longest break in those 3 years was 2 weeks. I haven't touched it since for 3 months and I plan on doing so for another 9. You can do it man, for me it was I just got so tired of fucking smoking and didn't really enjoy it anymore so I stopped. It was hard, but honestly after 2 weeks the symptoms really go away, and after 1 month you aren't even missing it anymore. Good luck dude, I'm not saying weed is bad or anything, I'll always be toking, but when it controls your life and you feel like you need to stop, then do it.

Also, when I was trying to quit when I was smoking all the time I always made up excuses like, "I need to quit for school, for my family, friends, ect." When I really stopped was just really I needed to do it because I straight up didn't want to anymore. If you quit, just do it for you, and you only. Peace!

Hey I just found this rly sweet flash game called Mushroom Engine. It's pretty short but a nice concept: you "unplay" a mario-type game. So in addition to having to avoid dying to normal stuff like falling into a pit or a bad guy touching you, you have to start from the END and make sure that every move you do makes sense BACKWARDS. Here's the full details: + Show Spoiler +
You use A to jump. You can jump infinitely, but once you touch the ceiling, you fall. Arrows move your character. When the game rewinds, you can press ESC to skip it.

The game plays in reverse. This means that it begins from the end credits and you 'unplay' the levels, which makes some pretty cool things possible. The thing that makes playing difficult is that you must avoid creating impossible situations. For example, if you start from the end and try to get to the beginning, touching an enemy would mean that you died without even being at the start of the level. There are 5 ways to create an impossible situation:

1) Falling from too high. When looked backwards, falling from a long distance would mean that you jumped that same distance up, so you may only fall a distance that would be jumpable if the game was played normally.

2) Touching an enemy. This was explained up there. You can jump on the enemies once, since then you 'unkill' them, but once they start moving, touching them creates an impossible situation.

3) 'Uncollecting' too many coins. When the level ends, you've collected a certain amount of coins, and you must make sure that you uncollect them all, not more or less.

4) 'Uncollecting' too few coins. Check the one above.

5) Trying to 'uncollect' the same coin twice. When looked normally, this would mean you'd touch a coin but not collect it!

So, the idea in each level is to get to the end and go outside of the play area, as well as uncollect the coins you have. If you create an impossible situation, the game rewinds to the beginngn (or end) of the level.

This game maker has some nice stuff. His website.
