Hey guys. I'm in high school and I smoke recreationally every week - 3 weeks (varies). I don't do any other recreational drug including drinking or smoking cigarettes.
I've encountered a lot of people at my school or people I know who look down at me because I smoke marijuana. There are a lot of people who are very ignorant on the topic and pretty much feel that because it's illegal, it's a terrible drug that will do HOOOGE damage to your body. It's kind of ironic because, being in highschool, everyone loves to go get drunk every weekend and do stupid things which is both illegal and bad for your body but those same people think I'm stupid for smoking.
There have been multiple instances were I've actually lied and told people I don't smoke pot because I know they will actually think less of me and they're opinion on me will completely change.
I've attempted to educate some people on the topic of weed but it's pretty useless. I'm sure everyone in this thread must encounter people like this. What do you guys do? I suppose the best option is to completely ignore it and just let it brush over but this is getting difficult for me to do.

Just don't give a fuck about people who look down on you, its not as if their life is comparable anyway because everyone is different. Just be nice to them and don't argue with them about it. As soon as you are out of high school people care alot less about what you do outside of school. In high school just do whatever you want and get a 3.0 and you're fine.

When I was in high school, I just didn't listen to stupid fucks who preached that shit. Just do it and enjoy doing it, that's all that's important. Just relax and enjoy the non-ignorant people, and people will eventually realize that you're just a regular person who enjoys marijuana.

yeah don't even worry about it. they aren't worth your time if they won't accept you for who you are. you probably will never see them again after high school anyway.

Yeah, this is the approach I'm taking. It's just a real shame that I feel I have to lie to people about it sometimes. :/

You don't have to lie about it at all :3 Let people know who you are, and if they don't like it then it's better than them liking someone who you have to act like, not you. Guess that made sense eh.

you have to lie - as in non-smoking kids are going around finding out who smokes? feeling pressured because some assholes feel superior to you is high school 101. stand up for yourself when it becomes a srs problem, but until then enjoy what god gave us and share the looove

The people I have lied to are like, my 'friends'. They're people I talk to at school and enjoy talking to, but we very rarely socialize out of school. I don't HAVE to lie, but I feel like lying to this specific group of people will produce a better outcome than telling the truth. I dunno, it's a very small issue for me but I thought I would bring it up. Thanks for people's input n_n

I know they seem like your friends but most of the people you only talk to at school will not be your friends as soon as high school is over... Your real friends are the people you can hang out with every day outside of school and be happy with that. Just because you don't bring it up doesn;t mean you are lying about it. Its not lying, its personal business also.
