Cuz the goverment makes shitloads of money off of it being illegal. Think tickets (like 500 bones everytime they find even 1 nug/pipe/resin/plantsomething/beatyoutoneardeath) and thats fucking for fucking weed man, next up they fucking bust drug dealers who just so happen to roll around like fucking capone in a fucking jetta and tend to be plenty happy to get pulled over and hand over they cash to the po. Not to mention the fucking big boys they bust with millions of dollars which they just seize with little to no effort, think of another industry the government supports or participates in with such ludicrous profit margins and even more ludicrous opportunity for profit longevity/growth? Seriously man people will never stop doing drugs and the government will never stop busting you doing them, someday when heroin is like the marijuana of the day weed will prolly be legal.
