MOSCOW. Feb 27 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered placing the Russian army's deterrence forces on a special alert. "Top officials of leading NATO countries make aggressive statements about our country, so I order the defense minister and the chief of the General Staff to put the Russian army's deterrence forces on a special alert," Putin said during a meeting with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff Valery Gerasimov. In other news a peace talk may be occurring, but I see no confirmation in any Western source.

Now the floodgates are open and panzerfaust 3s are going to be in Ukraine. Those are supposed to be fighting the latest tanks Russia has in it's Arsenal and are as easy to use as rpgs.

Nice bluff but it's unclear of its motives... E.g. Is Russia that desperate as a result of committing Chechnya and Belarus into this war? Is it because of so called foreign legion? They didn't bother to explain.

Yes, that did happen a few hours ago, but 5 minutes ago Russian news said that a Ukraine delegation might be flying out to the proposed meeting site (Gomel, Belarus). Again, not sure if there's confirmation anywhere. Edit: Details in flux, including location and delegation, and I suppose more importantly if it's actually going to happen. A neutral zone on the Ukraine-Belarus border is also floated as a possible site.

I've always been a fan of general conscription and it can be reinstated at any time in case of a threat.

With the caveat that I am by no means an expert in contemporary military analysis, those numbers being even ball-park accurate suggests to me that there is no technological means of easily addressing the advantage that spirited defenders have in the face of an invasion. Lord knows the US has seen that very thing play out before. On February 27 2022 22:55 Vivax wrote: Russian nuclear forces in special combat mode apparently, whatever that means. You’re exactly the kind of person Putin hoped was in charge when he started this thing. It’s nice to see he was wrong.

Ukraine has a reasonably strong military in size and equipment; probably significantly better than most countries in Eastern Europe. Caveat being that their best equipment is mostly stuff from the Soviet era, which means it's at least 30 years old, and that strength is "on paper" until you actually get into a battle. Estimations of enemy casualties are always going to be on the optimistic side, of course. How optimistic is the real question.

Modern tanks and aircraft are not cheap.

Alexander Lukashenko called Vladimir Zelensky. Politicians have agreed that the Ukrainian delegation will meet with the Russian delegation without preconditions on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, near the Pripyat River. Alexander Lukashenko has taken responsibility for ensuring that all planes, helicopters and missiles stationed on Belarusian territory remain on the ground during the Ukrainian delegation's travel, talks and return.

There is no actual reason for him to do this other than posturing or some genuine will to see the world destroyed. There are many, many cards to be played before nuclear war is a thing.
