The point of the UN is to ensure peace between the postwar great powers, not a general peace. To avoid WW3, not war in general. The UN wants Russia to be able to veto anything that crosses its red lines because the UN is built never to back Russia into a corner. This is seen as an absolute good. The war in Ukraine is not the war the UN was built to prevent. For the UN to meet it’s core purpose Russia must have a permanent seat. Other permanent members are likely to oppose taking away permanent seats on principle too.

But you are wrong on the fact that the UN was not meant to prevent a war like the war in Ukraine, it was founded exactly for that: so that conflicts be resolved diplomatically and to out general rules in the way nations behave with each other.

Russia can't have their Seat on the security council taken away with all the nukes they hold. Putin only care about respect and that would be making them a Chinese serf publically.

No oil, no gas, no imports, no exports, no banking. Seize anything owned directly or indirectly by russian oligarchs abroad. Isolate Russia from everything. No more travel to or from russia (except for people who want to claim asylum). Hit them hard and with everything we have got. Completely agreed. Just run their economy into the ground FFS...

My wife's grandparents came over during ww2 from western Ukraine, her grandpa passed but her Grandma who is 91 is pretty broken up. It is strange that 75 years later it is happening again. There is a fairly large Ukrainian presence in western Canada, so lots of pressure on our government to support. I know there have been talks about accepting refugees and allowing more. Even a hotline. I know its not enough, hope more comes. https://www.cp24.com/news/canada-must-be-ready-to-welcome-ukrainians-to-safety-expert-1.5795620 Thank you for the tip! Ukrainian diaspora in Canada is one of the biggest afaik, and I guess - it could be a good solution for the future at least. The biggest problem is that it's not possible to leave our country in safety anymore In last two days I have received many words of support and offers to help my family across the EU/US/Canada/even more from TL forum fellas, it matters so much for my family hope! Thank you everyone who got involved. The chances we'll have to accept some of your help is rising, although we still have to wait at this point till it's safe to leave Please, continue spreading the word about this genocide

How much did Afghanistan and Iraq cost and how much day to day impact did it have on citizens of those who waged it? Nothing? It seems to me that yes, widespread sanctions would have a huge knock-on effect, but surely something that citizens could be insulated from to some meaningful degree. If the will was there, which it Is not. I do believe that be it a cost of living increase and tightening of belts to sanction Russia, or collective action in that regard to deal with climate, that when push comes to shove most won’t bite. But it’s not even being floated as a question for us to collectively answer
