When people mention rating, if they're from the US, they're generally referring to their USCF rating.

I haven't played seriously for years, but when I did my online rating tended to be a couple hundred points higher than my real life rating.

Real life… who needs that? Mine is well over my real life one for several reasons that lead to me being unable to attend many tournaments. I've also come to the conclusion that I may have to give up chess soon, leaving it as just like SC, something to play for nostalgia or when I'm bored more than anything else. 24 hours just isn't enough time in a day for me to fit everything I want to do into.

Online ratings don't really mean anything. FIDE is the worldwide rating system used, but others like USCF or CFC tend to be pretty close.

The final round of the Gashimov Memorial will decide the winner.
Carlsen plays Caruana, both are on first place right now.

Surely, you will have time to solve a few tactics puzzles a day and that'll at least keep you from rusting away into oblivion.

I knew there were a lot of draws in super GM tournaments but this I still chuckled

I am always amazed by these brotherly analyses in the press conferences after these games, but it's nice though

Eh. I'll probably retire for the most part after the Summer and I think I'll finish the few games I have left and then play 1-2 correspondence at a time max.

I didn't see the VOD either, but I think the position was pretty much dead. Mind that the pawn structure doesnt change at all from move 25 onwards to the end of the game. This allowed Radjabov to move the same rook 25 times in a row. The game ended in a draw using the 50 move rule. It could be a that this is the world record for number of times moving the same piece in a row in a GM game.

I don't think I've ever seen a position with so many pieces and pawns (in a not totally blocked position) end with the 50 move rule like that. Amazing really. The Berlin truly is something to behold...

Does anyone have a good free app for puzzles on Android? I used the iChess Free app for a while, which has 1000 puzzles spread over three difficulties (the beginner level being for real beginners, however), and any suggestion for a free app with many puzzles is more than welcome :-)

Quoting myself since I did not receive any reply the first time... Anyone?

idk, I guess iChess is the best.
There is also Tactics Trainer and Perfect Chess Trainer.
You can also just launch up chesstempo or ideachess in the chrome browser.
