I live in Vancouver. The chess scene is not what it was 10 years ago. I don't know about any clubs, but the Grand Pacific Open just happened in Victoria, and there'll be the Keres coming up in May.

Carlsen might be losing to Caruana.

Hope he loses, recently he became too cocky and annoying imo.

looks completely lost now

i was sort of hoping for magnus to reach 2.9k, but it's also nice to see some resistance. caruana's had a bit of a rough stretch recently, good to have him back.
On a purely personal note, I'd like to show Yellow the beauty of infinitely repeating Starcraft 2 bunkers. -Boxer

And again, Carlsen is behind according to the comp, Radjabov has little time left however.

Carlsen should really resign quite soon

the knight is locked out, the pawns just roll through easily

Two losses in a row for Carlsen, has this ever happened before?

Wow Carlsen just looks exhausted. Not only the way he speaks in press conferences but also his eye bags...

A really tough sitiuation for Carlsen to be in, he explained he felt indifferent yesterday when playing against Caruana and that screams to me as a person who should take a break from chess and refocus him self but being in a tournament made to remember a dead chess player the option of withdrawing from the tournament seems like an impossiblity from a PR standpoint.

Sad state of affairs for the norweigen.

Time to give up chess and become a poker player.
As an alternative, he can still pull a Bobby Fischer of course.

Carlsen and Mamedyarov both relatively low on time for the remaining 18 moves. Come on Carlsen, win this :p

edit: AND HE DOES! \o/ :D

Also, nice that during the press conference, after being asked his opinion by Mamedyarov, he correctly pointed out that Mamedyarov should have played 22. Re1 instead of f5, which was indeed a blunder.

Carlsen can always rely on Naka for a point

Carlsen (Black) seemed to have quite a nice, crushing move in this position, which he missed (according to comp).
He played 42. ... Rd2 which keeps a slight advantage.
What would have been better instead?

Hi all,

I've been playing chess more often in the last few weeks, playing some against computer opponents and trying to increase my understanding of the game. I thought the 'academic' section of chessmaster grandmaster edition with very useful and I'm also watching a series of youtube video's with some elaborate analysis on games (example: + Show Spoiler +
).

Do you guys have any recommendations on these analyses video's or more general, on improving in general?

I'm quite a low level player. I played chess pretty high for my age between my 7th and 11th year before quitting the chess club i was a part of, but i haven't played chess a lot since then (im 24 now). I did study my old chess book and went through them without any trouble. I think the level of the video i gave as an example is about what i'd need (not too hard to follow, but i'm learning..). Although i know it probably doesnt say much, but as an indication my ranking on the chessmaster program against computer opponents averages around 1260.

Thanks for any time spent
