This seems like a most ill conceived plan.

Yeah it's a stupid move in terms of Boris trying to take over as PM, he will clearly be seen stabbing her in the back in the worst possible way. But it might finish May off.

Nothing's an ill conceived plan in this day and age i swear.
The stupidest thing is that I can see it working. Boris is like an idiot littlefinger. Creating chaos and moving on up, choosing sides carefully and ignoring his actual job.
The public in the UK just does what The Sun tells them to, and it looks like they've had enough of May.

There is a huge difference between the Sun telling them what to do and the US President taking shots at their leader in the Sun. Nothing makes people dig their heels in more than having a foreign leader dictate their future. And you folks were already stubborn to begin with.

The British Brexit right are about 50/50 on Trump. I think plenty of people will be agreeing with him regardless, because they want a harsh, no deal Brexit with zero ties to the EU, and Trump represents their kind of politics pretty accurately.
Don't underestimate support for Trump in the UK. He probably has more support than May over here right now.

Just some related polling on trump/may/Johnson from a british point of view.

So we hate Trump almost as much as Putin outside the core UKIP voters, Johnson is seen mostly as a Buffoon but the tide is starting to turn against May too.

Did 16% misunderstand the question when they thought Trump was honest? Or just trying to get rid of the person asking the questions?

I think racist, sexist, ableist people tend to confuse 'he says what I'm thinking' with honesty.

How can any tariffs be kept? They'll just swim the goods over!

For a comparison on how honest Trump is, compare him with Clinton that got a lot of flack for being dishonest.

http://www.politifact.com/personalities/donald-trump/ 69% falsehoods or mistakes with ~15% serious mistakes.
http://www.politifact.com/personalities/hillary-clinton/ 26% falsehoods or mistakes with ~2% serious mistakes.

Could be awkward for May especially as she is saying the opposite.

A trade deal with the US is a nightmare scenario.
It means the end of any even remotely decent regulations on animal welfare, food safety, worker's rights etc.
I'd much rather have a slower economy with EU standards.

Factually, if push comes to shove with a hard brexit, at least five people will lose their job in south wales. I'll close shop, pack my wife and move to germany rather than eating GMOs, chlorinated chicken, beef that rivals our local pharmacy in medication content and all the other disgusting shitfood that comes from the US.

There's a reason why May said this:

At a dinner held in Trump’s honour at Blenheim Palace on Thursday evening she vowed to “tear down” the bureaucratic barriers that Brussels had put in the path of business, as part of an attempt to overcome US fears about her new Brexit plan.

Those bureaucratic barriers are, amongst other things, prohibitions on the shit the US wants to sell over here. That's why Trump said:

In his interview, which breaks all normal diplomatic conventions by criticising his host, Trump warned: “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal.”

Yeah. Because the EU has considerably more leverage and can't be extorted to open its market for the US to ruin it.

They of course justify this clusterfuck with this here:

“It’s also an opportunity to tear down the bureaucratic barriers that frustrate business leaders on both sides of the Atlantic. And it’s an opportunity to shape the future of the world through cooperation in advanced technology, such as artificial intelligence.”

Because it's somehow the EUs bureaucratic barriers preventing artificial intelligence research. I mean, if someone is really that stupid to actually believe anything Westminster vomits into the world, be it May, Boris or anyone else, jesus christ.

edit

Best part though.

He claimed the prime minister ignored his advice on Brexit negotiations. “I would have done it much differently. I actually told Theresa May how to do it, but she didn’t listen to me,” he said.

I mean, that's from a person who got royally fucked by north korea (and still claims a victory). I guess "telling her how to brexit" wasn't that useful.

I thought basically everyone agrees that it is best to just ignore Trump. Possibly if you really need something from the US, kiss his ass and let him take some photos which he can sell as "winning!!!". Other than that, just wait another 2-6 years until the US transforms back from Hyde to Jekyll again. And plan for the fact that they seem to go utterly mad for 8 out of 16 years.

But never, ever take any advice from Donald Trump.

People took the advice of Boris Johnson and Farage over here.

I feel like it's time to stop underestimating the stupidity of pretty much half of every western country. It's also kinda hard to wait another 2-6 years if by then the UK isn't part of the EU anymore - and Trump enticed the moronic part of the country (together with blowjob BJ) that a hard brexit and no regulations is what they actually want.

This entire "oh nothing's gonna happen, just sit it out, everything is great nothing needs to change" brought us Trump, brought us Brexit, and potentially crashes the EU.

The public is losing faith with May because they realise what i said on here after the last election is true.

May claimed to call the election to solidify support behind her Brexit plan then went on to announce policies during the campaign that alienated core conservative voters, like scrapping the winter fuel allowance. So she barely scraped through with the win and had to do a deal with the democratic unionist party of Northern Ireland to avoid a hung parliament. What desire does that NI party have of seeing a Brexit?

May is controlled by people that want no Brexit.Don’t kid yourself that Johnson is much different.Brexit needs to be delivered or there will be riots and huge civil unrest. With or without Brexit the UK is in for a hard time the next few years. To be fair most of Europe is screwed also.

May's whole campaign was awful. It wasn't helped by the fact that tory policy is having a real and obvious effect on quality of life in our cities for most people. When there's 5 times the amount of homelessness in your city, its obvious which policies are to blame.
The UK has been having hard times ever since Cameron took over.

The Tory hardliners are desperate to make Brexit work. The Conservatives are officially lumbered with sorting out the mess they created; British voters aren't quite as fish-minded as some others and we aren't going to forget the promises they made that got the Leave voters to turn out and they aren't going to forget the rosy optimism of the Conservatives who campaigned for it then and are pushing for it now. This is something that could sink the Conservative Party for years, even a decade or more, much like the legacy of Blair screwed up Labour.

In other words, there's no tactic too low so long as it gets them the result they want in the end.

Of course, a 'deal' with Trump is going to be a one-sided deal where the US wins and the UK is worse off because that's how he views trade, but that is the boat they're going to jump into.
I'm not bad at Starcraft; I just think winning's rude.
