Take for example Zulle who has even admitted to doping. Will anybody do the same kind of investigation on the new winners? I am not sure a new winner gets appointed. AFAIK they wanted tp ban Bjarne Riis because he admitted to doping. The problem was that the rest of top 5 had already been caught. They settled on not having an "official" winner for the 1996 Tour de France. In reality it has absolutely no meaning. As far as price money: It is a tradition that the winner gives away all of his earning from winning the tour to his teammates. He will more than make up for it by the amount he will get for participating in invitation tours. Therefore it is a bit unfair to try and get the money back from his winning (I am not even sure, that is possible legally?). The punishment on Lance Armstrong is the hardest they can dish out, but in reality it does not mean much for Armstrong except for image maybe. He is too old to compete and that makes it pretty unimportant. All, that is happening is him trying to avoid loosing more image than necessary. I would, however, argue that the witchhunt is conducted just as much by Armstrong himself in trying to discredit USADA as much as possible as the other way around. He is using every trick in their playbook to make them look bad.

Zülle stated that he does not want the title anymore and they should just donate the price money to some charity.

Saying otherwise doesn't change the course of history. blood samples from him in 2009 and 2010 that were "fully consistent with blood manipulation including EPO use and/or blood transfusions". "As in every USADA case, all named individuals are presumed innocent of the allegations unless and until proven otherwise through the established legal process." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cycling/18435771

And yes, Lance was doper too, u r naive if u think otherwise. Let me remind you Marion Jones never gave positive doping sample ![]() Edit: ah didnt read the last page... My bad ...

I mean its cool hes saying that he didnt do it and was just tired of being bugged, but honestly if you win 7 tour de france titles and have a great legacy you dont give it up for any reason. Read the goddamn article. He says that he's been hassled by this witch hunt for over a decade and that it's taken it's toll on both him and his family and that 'enough is enough'.

If they made the courses shorter and actually manageble for a non doped human being then I am sure doping will drop as well. It isn't just the courses that are at fault. The overall focus on the very few riders at the top is to blame as well. There's a huge difference in terms of payout for top1 vs top10 vs the rest of the field. Shorten the courses and there would still be an advantage to be gained from doping. If you want to get on the podium, you dope. If you want to get lucrative ad contracts, you dope. I raged at this year's TdF coverage for how little emphasis they placed on the team competition, their chance to highlight some of the other guys out there on the road. Whose times were they counting? Were there any heroic efforts to hang on to the peloton after setting the pace all day? What is it like to finish off the back of the pack after working your ass off all day? If you're not a stage winner or GC contender, there's very little attention paid to your rides.

Its also fairly ridiculous the lengths they're going to get a conviction, harassing him for over a decade. Regardless if he did or not, its still a huge accomplishment, and they couldn't convict while he was competing. Any conviction now is just spite or greed. EDIT: Lance's Personal Statement: http://lancearmstrong.com/news-events/lance-armstongs-statement-of-august-23-2012 Good to see his heart's in the right place with raising all that money to fight cancer, but I wonder if he's ever bothered asking what the survival rate is for cancer victims treated in the hospitals. It's not a question that gets asked often by these fund raisers lol.

USADA is a joke as is its investigation. before retards say i'm an armstrong lover, my favorite cyclist of all time is Jan Ullrich. If that doesn't mean anything to you, then you have no right to comment on shit Jan Ullrich comes from the same town where I am from. Still, I am not a fan because he doped. There is a story where he waited once after Armstrong fell over, he didn't use this chance to get a lead and win over Armstrong. While this shows some character, the doping does not.
