No.. Nonononono, no subway. If you value a good sandwich you'll stay away from Subway. You'll notice that any combination in any sandwich ALWAYS tastes the same. Everything has that subway-e taste to it and on top of it, it makes me burp for the next few hours. Sandwiches are too easy and too cheap to make to waste money on sandwich shops, unless it's a really good one. Like La Bottega, or a shawarma. Here's how to design a proper sandwich: ------------------ Step A. Bread -Bread is important! The size, the shape, the taste. -Square bread -Avoid white bread, it's tasteless, sticks to your palate if untoasted and too fragile if toasted. Besides, brown is healthier. -Rye bread is delicious but usually small. -Sourdough is even more delicious but crumbles easily. -Pumpernickel is a very robust kind of bread. Don't toast it too much or else it turns to concrete. -Bagels work well but you need to use a slice of something to cover the hole or else you'll have leakage issues. -Tortilla or pita bread is great for wraps. ------------------ Step B. Sauce I'm a big fan of Mustard and Mayo. The mustard give you a strong taste on one side while the mayo lubricates your sandwich. Do yourself a favour and don't use yellow mustard. Have some dignity and go with dijon. If it's too strong for your taste, use honey mustard or sweet and spicy. You can also use barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, guacamole or even humus. ------------------ Step C. Toppings As long as you have at least 3 toppings, you've got yourself a sandwich. -Meat of any kind is good. Go to your local grocery store and get yourself some sliced meat. If I'm out I'll fry an egg and use that instead. Tuna is also good, you'll want to mix it with mayo or avocado (nature's mayo) and a few spices like chili and garlic powder and then spread it on your sandwich. -Cheese is great. Don't skip on cheese. Try different kinds. Mozzarela, strong cheddar, havarti, brie, camembert, blue! -Veggies, you need them. -Lettuce (big leaves) -Spinach -Tomato (add salt and pepper) -Shredded carrot -Cucumber slices -Avocado -Onions Marinades, those are the best part. - PICKLES! I go to different stores and I always buy a different brand of pickle, I even made my own, last year. They come in all types and tastes, try them out. - Beats - Olives (Good but they tend to leak out of the sandwich) - Marinated eggplants (hot or sweet) - Hot peppers ------------------ Step D. Construction Sheldon wasn't kidding in Big Bang. You want to layer your toppings by alternation with a flat one, such as meat, sliced cheese or lettuce, and a not-so-flat one, like a tomato slice, avocado, onion or something else. I shove all my toppings in a tupperware and pack 2 slices of bread when I go to work. That way I can toast the bread there and make my sandwich fresh. It saves time. If you don't want to do that, make sure to keep ''wet'' toppings such as tomatoes and pickles away from the bread, or else it will become soggy. ------------------ The limit is your imagination!! I'm hungry.

I can't think of any place that would serve shreaded duck 0.O buy some roast duck from a chinese restaurant and shred it like you would shred chicken

Although if you do go to subway there is only one way to go: Footlong Italian herbs Double chicken Teriyaki NO cheese Toasted NO lettuce Extra red onions Extra olives Extra bell peppers Extra green peppers Sweet onion sauce or chipotle I just had one for dinner on my way home after I started reading this thread at work. Very good and actually the only reason I go to subway once every couple months. Personally I only go there if I need a meal on the go and I'm not in the neighbourhood of a Wok-to-walk.

My choice: White bread, toasted Chicken Schnitzel Old English or sometimes mozzarella cheese Chipotle sauce or mayo Black pepper + cookies + coke If you're at a larger Subway, feeling adventurous, have some spare cash, and are persuasive you can get a cookie sub. For a cookie sub, you choose your bread then cookie dough is spread on both sides. They then bake the cookie dough onto the bread, and you can top it with whatever salad and sauce you like. I am told that lettuce should be avoided because it makes the sub taste weird.* *Source: Australian Subway employees.

Roast Beef Smoked Ham Vito Meat (Capicola/Genoa Salami) Provolone Cheese Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard Lettuce Tomato French Bread Hot Cherry Peppers Italian Vinaigrette Oregano 850 calories of win. I would get pickles and olives, but alas, Jimmy John's does not have them. I'd go to Subway and get fundamentally the same sandwich, but they only have shitty yellow mustard, IIRC. The Italian BMT is a pretty okay choice from Subway, though.

meatball marina bacon peperoni mozzarella if they have it, if not provolone What ever veggies appeal at the time. So good, so unhealthy, i tend to walk to the subway 7 miles or so away to justify this.
