Hey guys! We'll be closing this thread shortly, but we will make an American politics megathread where we can continue the discussions in here.

The video is still bullshit. Anyone with a shred of economic, politic and scientific understanding can see that.

I laughed the most at the european part, although for a moment it made sense to me; I mean europe is in a huge shitpile isn't it?
Well yes. It is. But not really worse than the US, people in europe just understand better. The (northern) european economic model was actually pretty damn good, germany did excellent even though they had to lug eastern germany through the past 2 decades. It all went to shit because (southern) countries spent billions more than they could afford... copying the US system, not the european one.
If you look at the independent european countries (parts of scandinavia, switzerland) that don't have to bail greece etc. out, you get a majorly different picture.

Also, how the fuck can you believe that oil is the future? Yes, it's necessary now, I won't deny that. But sooner or later it will run out. And you damn well better have infrastructure up, when that happens or you'll be in a world of hurt.

And to the post above me: did it? I never really noticed, but does it really matter what it's called? Global warming is the consensus of the vast, vast, vast majority of scientists. So unless you believe in some weird conspiracy to god knows what ends by scientists from all over the world, different cultures, ethnicities and religions, well, then you better accept it. As tercotta said, one cold winter doesn't mean anything. The trend is clear.

The most recent studies of US oil reserves shows that the US has enough recoverable oil to fuel domestic consumption at current rates for 250 years. So yeah, we're not running out any time soon.

http://energyforamerica.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Energy-InventoryFINAL.pdf

Oil is a global market. If China will pay more for American oil, then companies will ship it overseas rather than in the country. That is, unless we nationalize the oil companies. Any one individual country's oil supply numbers are meaningless.

Romney's speech the other night dissecting the lies about 'fairness' was spot-on. I think he should win this, in spite of voter fraud and traditional media all going against him. Once every generation or so, American voters have to re-learn how destructive, wreckless, and naive unadulterated socialism is. President Obama has provided that opportunity for this generation. A golden opportunity to show the rising generation that conservatism (ie classic liberalism) is the path to greater happiness for all people.

You guys have the shittiest healthcare system of any g20 country and the highest average tuition rates. Your idea of 'unadulterated socialism' is a farce. Canada must be full of geniuses, because if this is your idea of a socialist government then you guys suck at it.

Voters have already seen what 'unadulterated' capitalism can do ... Make the wealthiest Americans richer while causing a catastrophic economic crisis.

Surely there is an appropriate middle ground.

People with health insurance get immaculate care.

Yup. Too bad everyone can't be JayZ and Beyonce and clear out the entire floor of a hospital.

Being poor sucks. But being poor in America REALLY sucks.

For some weird reason the rest of the world grossly underestimates the healthcare available to poor people in our country. We have medicaid, and we have state run health insurance pools (that are incredibly cheap), and you can get free emergency care from any hospital since they legally cannot turn you away. Also our pharmaceutical companies give drugs to people of a certain income for free (I have worked in a doctor's office and helped patients fill out those forms).

Yes, we have some crazy expensive stuff in healthcare but that's because it's super cutting edge stuff.

it costs me ~230$/month to pay for me , my wife and my son for the literal basic shit so i still practically pay for everything out of pocket. i honestly find that criminal.

just as a side note me and my wife make about 20k / year atm combined and are considered "poor" but don't get any benefits from any gov't institutions because we make "too much"

Are you serious? I had no idea. I'm a recently college graduate and most jobs I am looking at are 60k and above. I'm surprised that two people together could make less than 20k, much less be able to support a family but I really hope that is common. No one who puts in the effort for working the business hours should be paid that little. I made more than that as a grad student RA ffs.

Wait until you go from looking to actually working. There's a pretty big fucking gulf there.

Romney isnt the republican presidential nominee. Thats weeks away from a decision and theres stiill two people in the race. Ron Paul and Romney. So ... This thread is a bit too early imo.

Edit: And Barack Obama's birth certificate was proven false. Which means he shouldnt be President. This election year is gonna be cccrrraaazzzyyyyy. Oh And 12on Paul for President.

from what ive heard of romney, it seems to me there is no way he should be allowed to win.

Even with my severe lack of knowledge about current American politics, I think what Obama is trying to do for America is great, even if the population doesn't understand the implications of his goals yet, and how it will positively affect the general population rather than hurt them. (thinking about the social security etc).

Romney is the candidate. Candidates get a certain number of delegates depending on how they do in a primary election. Those delegates are required to vote for that candidate in the first round at the convention. If there is no majority, then and only then can delegates change their votes in the second round. Romney is gaurenteed a majority, realistically there is no way Ron Paul can win. RNC is backing Romney as the candidate, primary election is over.

Funny statement considering the Ron Paul compaign was actually the one trying to steal delegates from other candidates at various caucuses, with the RP supporters consistently staying after the vote to get elected to represent the state. If the other candidates had be doing that to Ron Paul, the rage of RP supporters would make every political forum online unreadable.

Face it, Romney doesn't need to "steal" delegates from Romney - he's vastly more popular among the Republican electorate and will win the nomination in a landslide in terms of delegate count.

Just to eleborate on this^

There are 2,286 total delegates, delegate count as it stands now:

Romney: 847
Santorum: 259
Newt: 137
Paul: 80

That's 1251 total delegates having been chosen and 1035 yet to be chosen. 1144 votes are needed to win outright, which Paul cannot do. His only hope would be to deny Romney an outright victory and take it to the convention.

Ron Paul would need to get 738 votes or 71% of the remaining delegates to be able to deny Romney an outright win. And even then the convention delegates would never accept him as the candidate. The primary is over.

The NYTs article is actually adding in projected delegates, which I believe is including some of the 120 unbounded RNC delegates and is also estimating how many of the delegates for states with non-binding primaries where the delegates can essentially vote for whoever they want. Because those estimations differ, numbers vary from the low 70s to the upper 90s. 80 is a pretty realistic figure of where things actually stand.

If you only want to count the number of hard delegates who have to vote for Ron Paul the number is actually 52.

CNN has a breakdown of the votes by state and pledged vs. unpledged here

They're putting Paul's count at 76, as they too are counting unpledged RNC delegates who've endorced him and they've estimated a few states differently. For Minnesota NYTs puts the number at 18, CNN is saying 9. That's because Minnesota's caucus is unbinding, so the counts are just estimates of how each delegate is going to vote.

Anyway you slice it, he absolutely cannot win outright, and it would be virtually impossible for him to be able to deny Romney the outright win. And as I say, even if he did the convention would never pick Paul as the candidate. The primary is over, Ron Paul lost.

this planet is totally fucked. ppl should shut their mouth if they dont really know what they talking about. sheep shouldnt vote if they know shit. and if you would know a lil bit about this slave system, you wouldnt vote at all. since it doesnt matter and it never will.

ron paul wants to shut down the fed. thats the closest step to the root of all problems ever made. or its just a step to the next slave administration system, like one world currency and later the coorporational gov. if they wouldnt want him to say what he says about the money system, he would be dead or worse.

i cant think of a more evil money system then we got right now, but they gonna make something nice for us. trust me.

Ehh. I know quite a few parents who are requiring their children to pay them back or won't even really give loans at all. Shit happens, be thankful you have kind parents.
