240.000 tons of food is not that expensive and it isn't exclusively paid for by the USA either.
Also, national debt is a poor reason to stop foreign aid. Foreign aid is a powerful tool for the foreign policy of a country.

I believe Mr. Kim invented the beef burger as well! That must have been quite a feat of reverse engineering lol.

This is really encouraging news..

Currently, anyone who disagrees with the state is sent to a North Korean labour camp that is situated in remote sectors in Russia, here the workers live in shitty conditions and work their "debt" off for no money. As for their nukes, lol, the boy scouts would roflstomp NK, they aren't a threat to anyone except themselves and the native population who are born into their totalitarian state. The missles they have pointed at south korea is kinda fucked up if true but largely NK is all image both in terms of external and internal politics.
I used to think NK was some badass nation with nukes and shit but after doing some reading and watching some documentaries I've realised they are all poor as fuck and the country is a shithole and they wouldn't even get close to firing their supposed nukes without the west blowing them back into the stone age first. Its true, they arent much a threat to most developed countries. They are a threat to South Korea. Look how close Pyongyang and Seoul are to eachother. Missile techonology to reach that small distance at low altitude isn't a big deal by todays' standards. North Korea wouldn't have a hard time acquiring these kinds of weapons. It's really far-fetched that North Korea would attack South Korea. In the korean war, USA used their air superiority to bomb North Korea to smithereens, and they were complaining about air imba. Well, the south's air advantage is even greater today. Back then, North Korea used fairly high tech soviet technology, but today, North Korea is like 30 years behind the South in technology, and the gap is just growing. South Korea and USA are the most advanced military powers in the world and since they have such a strong alliance, anyone who attacks either of them would immediately put themselves on the losing end of a war. Nobody disagrees that in a SK / NK war, it would be SK that gets the victory. The problem is that it will most likely be a Pyrrhic victory which will leave SK greatly impoverished. I mean, hell, NK could destroy SK's economy just by disbanding itself. Nah. If SK invaded NK it would be kind of like the Iraq invasion. The full-scale war would be over quickly and with very few casualties for South Korea. North Korea's infantry unit is pretty scary, but in modern warfare, infantry means very little. The big question is how fast they could disarm the DMZ mine fields before rolling in the tanks, but then they would just keep bombing in front of the line, with the ROK army and tanks marching forwards in the dust.
It's obviously impossible for SK to just absorb NK. They would need to start another regime in NK and then build it up slowly.

NK has enough artillery pointed at Seoul to level it in an hour. I don't dpubt that SK would win a war between them but it would cost them as I doubt NK would have any qualms against firing on civilians.

Perhaps Jong-Un cares slightly more about his people than his father did.

So they're not a threat to anyone except themselves... but they missiles they have are pointed at South Korea's capital... right...
Just because they're poor doesn't mean they have weapons, it could mean they just spent all their money on weapons, which is what I believe they did.
And I think this is a good call by the US. Try and open up relations now that the psychopath is gone. See if we can't start something new. If we can't, we can just wait until we can stop them from killing South Korea, then go kill them.

to those who think this is good, you must wait unfortunately in the past the "aid food" has been taken and then sold not given freely to those poor souls. lets hope the son is a good man.

Wow, thats a lot of food going to North Korea. Had no idea that Kim Jong-Il passed away( where the hell was I when this happened?). I personally think this food aid is worth the destruction of weapons of mass destruction.

Yeah, but the more food that enters NK, the better. But you're absolutely right about USA. If you live in USA, and you can't afford food, it's your own fault. You just have to look at the average american to see that they have no shortage of food. I've seen videos of North Korean kids scouring the ground looking for food. Ppl in western countries don't know what real starvation means.

Maybe the son isn't as power hungry or evil as the father. Maybe he is just hungry...

The food is probably poisoned, it comes from the US.

this is the same shit kim jongil's been pulling for years. They threaten to make nukes and as re-elections come up in the U.S, they say they'll talk. The American president will agree so that he can get good ratings, and as soon as there's a change in power in the u.s, NK will belike, HEY WERE MAKING NUKES AGAIN
|
A short snack break for NK before they can resume their deviously diabolical avocations.
|
I really hope this is a right step in the direction of peace with NK. Really expected the new Kim-Jong to be even worse than his father, but he really made the rational decision here.
|
I can't stand the critism in this thread.. The people of N.K are starving and they need food, I don't care if their government are corrupt/a dictatorship or resort to cheap tricks..
Solid move from US.
