So I recently went to buy my first pair of Allan Edmonds shoes. I had decided that I would pay $300 to $400 and take really good care of them and see if they really do last 10+ years. HOWEVER I've been having a hard time with the fit. I've been to 3 stores but none seemed to carry anything that fit quite right. I was told that my feet are a bit narrow and that AEs fit wide. They are available in narrower versions but no store I've been to so far carries the right size. I was referred to yet another shoe store which I'll check out today.

The guy at Harry Rosen yesterday convinced me to try on even more expensive shoes. I tried on a pair of beautiful brown Canali oxfords. List price $595. They fit very nicely indeed. Then he convinced me to try on these hand-made Prada brogued oxfords. List price $990, marked down to $690. What a deal! They felt amazing. They were kind of like a darker, almost reddish brown - not the style I was looking for anyway. And certainly not the price I had in mind.

So I'll continue my search. The Harry Rosen guy said that if I really want AEs the best way to get a good fit would be to go to an actual AE store. There are none in Calgary but maybe next time I'm in the States.

TL;DR: Having a hard time getting shoes for $300 to $400

try this? actually handmade in italy.
leathers are sourced from Les tanneries Du Puy, which is where a lot of artisan brands (RO, BBS, etc), Guidi, and renowned luxury leather maker Hermes gets theirs.
other downside is their choices are rather slim, but at this pricepoint for this quality I'm not one to complain.

but your problem seems to be fit; I'm not so sure how well these feel on your particular feet.
Perhaps go back and get the measurements (insole, outsole, width, instep) for the Canali shoes you liked, then contact Meermin directly to see if they're similar?

Why doens't he just try Mercanti Florentini or Magnanni? Especially for Magnanni they fit narrow and long and are AMAZING if you are willing to spend the $$ on them.

what's a brand that doesnt cost a quite something when going for casual shirts?
non stuck in. finishes like formal shirts (with the invert V at the sides) but ends shorter because it isnt meant to be tuck in, long sleeve.
179 cm 70kg. 44 shoulder asian frame.

i'll be getting meermins next year, so yeah go with those. i think they're from spain and not italy though. but they offer customization (so if you want, say, brouging on one of their cap toes you can email them). so yeah getting the measurements of that shoe that fit well and emailing meermin is a good idea

btw NF jeans for $90

because from what I've heard Magnanni are pretty shitty and their only caveat is they fit well, which is where Meermin comes in. You can get them MTM as well.

oh right, I make pretty retarded posts at work lol. For some reason I finished typing about the source of the leather and I was on autopilot and pinned Italy place of manufacture along with it.
They're made in Shanghai and finished in Spain iirc.

yea, they're kind of on the thin side, although I'm thinking that speaks more to the nature of the fabric than its longevity.

I don't mean to interject but from my experience AE's have a very poor, boxy (wide) silhouette. You don't really buy AE's for their modern sleek cut, they're more known for their longevity than anything.

regardless of what cut it is. You can only take an ocbd with chinos so far.

An interesting thing to note about the colorway is flat vertical gradients were just recently re-introduced by raf/ann d, but it took the mainstream a season or two to catch on.

Asos can be a crapshoot but they probably have a mix of interesting prints, whether you dig them or not is a different story. I don't have any but they're cheap and slim fitting IIRC and make stuff like XXS if you're a small dude.

In Germany list price is 65€, but you can always get them for 39-45€ somewhere. amazon.de is 40€ right now for some sizes.

Amazon.com is 39-55$, but I suppose that is because there are no general taxes for US online shopping, so you have to add 20%, which makes up for the $ <> € difference.

RO Detroits yo
but really I have no idea. I was thinking about going 3sixteen shadowselvedge, but honestly, black jeans don't really have to be raw or selvedge.
It's kind of hard though because you need a really long inseam (34+) which most brands don't do.
