most people who wear skinny ties just think it's trendy; it's really supposed to be a tool for balancing out ratios through the use of a visual illusion. No. It's trendy and it looks good. Being skinny is also trendy. But a thick guy wearing a skinny tie will look like Jon Hamm, provided that the rest of his clothes fit very well. Ratios don't matter; the broader shoulders illusion is always advantageous.

ratios/proportions are everything in clothing. there are certain scenarios where skinny ties look good and where they look bad. for example, a beefy guy with a skinny tie will look fat/wide and give the impression that he is choking. likewise, skinny ties do not go well with double breasted jackets because the tie width is improportionate with his lapels, making the entire outfit seem odd. skinny ties go well with people that are slim and tall, and help mask the narrowness of the shoulders.
just because something looks good and trendy doesn't mean it automatically goes with everything.

Super skinny tties are trendy but there's always been varying width. Who is jon hamm
If you have huge shoulders you don't want them to look bigger because the rest of your body looks out of proportion
You cant have a skinny ass tie with big lapels or a wide tie with tiny lapels it just looks off. Wishi could post pics but im ona. Phone

Who is jon hamm guy on Mad Men aka 'omg he dresses so well' when really, modern menswear and the wardrobe displayed in that show is just a reflection of a neo-60s revival where everyone used to dress like that.
Christ I hate the way people put that show and Suits on a pedestal.
what people should actually study/admire is the Rat Pack. they were the true trendsetters of that era and shaped public perception of what well-dressed entailed.

oh
suits, contrary to the name, has pretty bad suits. it got better after a while but still pretty meh. good show though
never watched mad men but ive heard good things. looking at promo pics though, they didnt seem to dress THAT well. an irl friend of mine was like "you like clothes youd like it!" but i was like, well......
ironically, i was rereading the Fuck Yeah Menswear book earlier and it actually helped me out a bit stylistically. dont ask why i bought it in the first place (though for all the meh humor on fourpins, theres enough gems and a few awesome pieces that gets posted that it makes reading it worthwhile)

There is a great site (okay it is quite girly) that you might find useful. It is a compilation of what women find attractive, which is what you want, right? There are multipe posts like this, so when you have scrolled to the bottom use the 'click here' post to take you to the next one. Or else just search 'Things I wish my boyfriend would wear'. Anyway, not saying all of it will be up everyone's street, but it is a great way to get an idea of what is attractive etc. Here is a link to one of the posts: http://theberry.com/2013/05/09/stuff-i-wish-my-boyfriend-would-wear-29-photos-28/
Edit: Boat shoes are great.

Yea thats the last brand that I couldnt remember the name of :D, I was considering buy a pair of Sperry but went for the sebagos because I wanted a specific color. Whatever color you choose they will undoubtedly look good, I matched mine to my bag and belt, but thats not something you need to do.
