Yeah, Cynic are awesome if not a bit of an acquired taste. Don't like the newest EP so much though, it's not bad or anything but its not amazing either. Just click add image right next to link.

I've listened to that album like 50-100 times i'm pretty sure. I think its personally way better than their new album too.

"Reminds me kinda of Death this band does, of course cant't compare and is still not as good, but it's refreshing to see some melodic stuff and instrumentals with philisophical ideas, just like Death. R.I.P. Chuck Schuldiner" -youtubecommentmanguy That's the first thing i fucking thought when i listened to that track. sounds like a more modern version of death. if that means their other tracks are like em, i gotta check em out! lol yes. Matt Sotelo writes all those songs and all he does is smoke weed and listen to Death's discography. That's why it sounds ''similar''. Except for the first DB album which is just standard 250 bpm brutal death metal. Imagine Suffocation with more notes I guess.

I'd go back a bit, I didn't like traced in air that much either (aside integral birth, i fucking loved that track!) however i wouldn't classify traced in air as djent. or whatever that means, and there first album is more tech death, but i fucking love cynic, brb focus. Traced in Air is pretty much a Prog Rock album with almost no relation to Focus. Personally, I love both albums, but regardless of your feelings towards either one, it should be understood that they're very different, and were probably meant to be that way.

Hehe, I get your point. Usually metalheads are very picky, especially ones who's into techdeath, listening almost exclusively to that.. That's just not me . Well I'm definitively a techdeath/death guy. I love djent aswell (at least some bands)...was just wondering about the idea to combine such diverse genres into one thread Listening to Sikth right now sounds good so far...

They just try to be super technical most of the time and they seriously lack in good song structure. Djent isn't even a genre. It's pretty much really technical progressive metal. Mathcore is pretty dumb as well. The only decent thing I see from the whole scene is Calculating Infinity. Tech death is in my opinion the most boring and generic death metal out there. Almost every band has terrible song writing abilities. Just over the top wank every song. If you want some good tech death albums check out Spawn of Possession Cabinet and Noctambulent. Lol was about to complain but then you mentioned Spawn of Possession ;D You're right considering Djent. Most Bands really do sound the same.

![]() Also: Why can't I call Djent a genre just because Meshuggah invented the term? Words change their meaning over time. I feel Djent is good sounding short name which by now describes Periphery-like music because everyone by now connects that kind of music to Djent. I actually didn't know it derived from chord and thats interesting and all but... you got my point? xD This doesn't fit in here quite well, but i feel like posting it here ;P
