My old thread was closed due to lack of legitimate sources.
I was browsing reddit and found these videos.
I thought I was construction because a redditor posted this link in the thread. http://englishrussia.com/2011/06/09/new-underground-station-in-kiev/ Also in this video, they pretty much say it is a hoaxed video because they interviewed people and none of them said they heard any of these sounds.
But in the first video and This link show that there is no construction occurring in windsor. The sound is coming from an unknown source and they have brought in government officials to try to determine the source of this sound. http://www.windsorstar.com/Mystery gains another believer/5251125/story.html Also another very similar article to the last one.
My question to the tl community is what is the source of these sounds? What do you think?
Edit: Thanks to caradoc for putting this up. Now that we can see it looks like that, the sound in Kiev most likely manufactured or a hoax. This perfectly lines up with the Ukranian news report that says it is a fake. But still doesn't answer the Windsor one. I guess we just have to wait for more information regarding that one.
The Hum is something completely different to this - people around the world hearing a hum while others can hear nothing is a bit different to what is being shown here, surely?

True, but false too. I mean, we are humans, we have defaults and qualities, and that's the way of life. There will always be problems on Earth until humans don't become more "intelligent".
Is it weird that I relate this(and several other "uncommon" activities, such as an Earthquake felt south of Brazil, which is located in the middle of a tectonic plateau) to 2012?
The end is neighnear.
On a serious note, sound like some kind of acoustic anomaly that ended up causing this sound.
Isn't Earth due for a magnetic pole reversal? I could've sworn I've read somewhere that this happens with regularity. Something on the scale of planetary magnetic pole reversal could probably cause a hum like that, right?

True but these are still sounds. The hum was heard in windsor. In kiev it is perfectly explainable by some sorta of construction. But in windsor we have the hum which if is real there is no current logical explaination that I know of.
HAARP cant do that. I just heats up the ionosphere to produce different weather patterns. I don't know much about it but if you talk to a expert on it they will tell you HAARP can't (I think) be used to kill people miles away.
Hmm that's really weird. The first thing I thought of was this vid:
Anyway, yeah it really seems like viral marketing. If it's true that government officials are going to investigate, though, then maybe it's legit? If it is viral marketing, and a country's government comes around, only to find out it's a hoax...someone's gonna be in deep shit.
Either way, I have a very strong feeling that my Sunday afternoon and evening will now be spent watching Cloverfield, War of the Worlds, and other apocalypse flicks, haha.

Yes. It happens was it...every 10000 or 10,0000 years? Hahaha, do you really wake up saying 'today is the day?' ? hahahha. Personally I am waiting for the day our sun shrivels up, unfortunately I believe the Earth's crust will be 1000 degrees and somewhat sunny a few million years before I will be able to see that particular event.
I'm also getting the vibe that this is viral marketing... my money is on a Cloverfield sequel because I didn't see this covered on a single news station.
the fact that its being covered doesn't discount the possibility that it is still viral marketing.
The "new believer" is the same person as in the first video, apparently a member of the Windsor city council.
I came across another article aiming to provide possible explanations for the phenomenon, ranging from large fans in cooling towers to wind turbines to trains in salt mines.
Strange noises that sounds like horns, trumpets in a city? Indeed strange such a thing might happen. A humming noise that sounds like a fan or haygobbler(no idea what the machine is called in english) stranger then crystal dust.
But I suppose the end is coming, lets agree its alot more fun to imagine the possibilites then focus on the science =)
First thing that came to mind with that sound is those walking things in War of the Worlds, rofl. Pretty freaky, but I am sure there is some explanation for the noises.

The part in Canada sounds kinda like a drill going into a 2x4 without being properly aligned. As for the part in Kiev, I have absolutely no idea. That was weird shit. The part in the video of Port Colborne sounds like a train far away on a curved track, like it's undergoing the Doppler Effect. I have no idea what this is though, and it's really interesting.
If it real its prolly just some ultra low frequency wave caused by a shift of matter under the crust that caused the buildings and their foundations to resonate.

Sounds like an underground railroad. Both sounds in the first video sound related to trains. The sound in Canada sounds like a train moving on the tracks while the other sounds like its horn. But damn, that's a loud horn...No idea what this could be...Anybody see battle LA? Could be one of those control colony's that landed in the area. Just messing, but uh...No idea

yea notice how crappy the alpha looks in screenshots until they totally redid it years later. and like I said before, the book was written well before sc production. Why are you trying to argue this so hard? Its pretty well known that blizzard 'borrowed' tons of ideas when they make games and especially from movies and most especially aliens and starship troopers. Even look at the 'pissed' quotes of everything you click on. Its all related to movies and tv shows.
also iirc SST had bug race, humans, as well as the smart 'greys' in the original book. I know for sure it did in the animated tv show.

It's kind of intriguing to me how there are so many people on TL who jumps to the alien conclusion every time a cloud has a funny shape or the neighbour's playing the trombone ^^
Sounds a bit like a whale, and I don't think this can really be caused by any construction. Construction tends to be filled with grinding and the high pitched whirring of motors and drills. This deep sound that seems to vibrate through the earth is the last thing I'd expect from construction.

I don't know what these sounds are or where they are coming from, but if I was living in Kiev and I heard these sounds that I can't give a meaning to, I would get the hell out of there on first transport that I can get my hands on instead of taping it. So, I say it's fake. Some sort of crane/construction sounds over the city footage.

you can even see the tripod on the left from 0.42 to 0.45

The areas that are affected are extremely small. Like maybe 200-1000 people live in those areas at most. Plus, most people would just say, oh its just faked, I can create the exact same sound with media software. Which is true, but people call the police, and the police themselves have confirmed these sounds(why else would they bring in government officials to measure things?) And if this is viral marketing it is possibly the most realistic advertisements ever, calling the police and getting government officials and news stations to report a fake sound and everyone in the area is in on it? If these sounds are real, and still marketings, how the hell can they create these sounds in several areas of the world, with no source of the sound found. Must have the budget of Avatar I guess.
You really think they would let something huge and unexplained go to the international news ? :p They would never let that kind of info go through.
For me it's an unexplained phenomenon like others (there are thousands, science can't do all at one !). But, the problem is that in majority's minds, unexplained = strange, which is wrong (but it's normal to think this way, it's how we're made).

The sounds are weird and seem to be too high pitched to travel through solid ground. Imo it would be more likely that it's infrasound vibrations causing resonance. The infrasound should be noticeable by itself however, by causing nausea and other telltale effects.
And just a comment to those who affirm that there's an explanation: by the action of stating that there's an explanation you lend weight to the idea that some things can't be explained and that this could be such a thing. Obviously there's an explanation, the Ontario investigation is looking into it and either the explanation is boring or there's some interesting lesson to learn there.

found another intereseting video from florida, preety interesting, considering they call 911, asking if there is a tornado watch or something. This is what the camera holders had to say + Show Spoiler +
Tallahassee Florida, 3-09-2011.. Around 6:30 on. What is this noise??? We thought for sure it was a Tornado, But it never changed it's position, and it lasted for well over 20 minutes or so... It was Soooo Loud, and it was shaking the house and the ground. I called 911, They said they didnt know what it was, But that there were MANY calls coming in about the noise. They said they were sending patrols out to check it out... There was a Flash of light that came from the same direction of the noise, then the noise just faded away. It was a relief obviously, I still thought it may have been a Tornado, But it also wasn't making any sense to me. We even put the kids in the bathtub and put a mattress over them just in case. I called the News Station also, They told me it wasn't a Tornado, And that the police had told them to tell people it was an airplane revving it's engine at the airport. I live 4 miles from the airport, And I have lived here for 20 years, I have never heard an An airplane rev its engine at the airport, that was just insanity. So when the noise was over, we drove down to the airport and stopped at a gas station nearby, They said they didnt hear anything. So it was not coming from that direction! AND, on the 11 o'clock news that night, the weather man made a comment about all the calls that had come in about the noise, He said, Dont worry, It wasn't a Tornado, and it was confirmed that it WASN'T an Airplane, ALL You were hearing was THUNDER!!!.. If anyone has ever heard Thunder that was anything like that, Please let me know. It is just so Strange to me that the Stories kept changing.. Like we are stupid or something and dont know what Thunder sounds like. Anyway, I Dont Know What it was.. But if you have any clue at all, Please do tell
Also, Very strange how after the Flash of light there was no thunder, the noise actually stopped. Oh, and the NASA Space shuttle Discovery had already landed in south Florida about 5 hours earlier that day. It wouldn't have hovered for 20 minutes anyway, But just saying. I had to load this video in a lesser format so that it would upload... If i can find out how to do a higher quality I will.
Also, this was an interesting read, at least i thought it was, cant wait to see how many people start talking trash about all this rather than doing there own research, most of this comments in this thread are either sc2 jokes, or people saying "hoax" or, "fake!", rather than putting up any kind of actual discussion or evidence to their claims. anywyas here you are. http://aircrap.org/wright-patterson-air-traffic-controllers-vindicate-chemtrail-conspiracy-theorists/331057/

I haven't claimed anything!
But the guys saying "it's fake / viral marketing" have made a claim, and if they're saying this is fake or just viral marketing, they better have some proof for that statement (claim).

It sounds in to many wavelengths at the same time and same audibility to be real imo, real sound doesn't travel like that... you can't have echo and non echo sounds at the same time from the same source.

Why. Im just giving out information about these strange noises. This isnt a hoax unless private companys can make massive sounds which shake buildings that are undetectable. I want to know the cause of these sounds. And if you have a legit answer please say so. There are plenty of new sources in this thread from me and other posters that these sounds are real. If you think this is some conspiracy then you are the one spreading that crap.

I extracted the Kiev file and played around with it a bit in praat/audacity.
It looks like a small set (2 or 3) of sounds that have been acoustically transposed up and down and then overlaid on each other.
Its hard to really neatly unpack a messy audio file like this, but the strongest evidence for it is that a lot of the sounds that have identical pitch also have identical duration-- not something we'd expect if it was a natural phenomenon, or even a recorded sound.
EDIT: Also, the sounds are 'layered' in the spectrograph, also indicating its acoustically altered. I'll upload a screenshot in a sec.

Lots of people hear like to put words(or text) into peoples mouths. The only possible claim I could have made is these sounds are real. Which I think when several different videos, witnesses(in science these mean nothing, that I know) and news reports that is enough "evidence" for me to say these sounds are real. And their source is unknown. Lots of people on youtube and other sites are saying these are caused by HAARP, which is valid but I don't know enough about HAARP or the evidence behind this claim to say this is a plausible source of the sounds. In Kiev there is a tunnel being build and the news video says(I understand Russian, and ukranian is close enough for me to understand at least 60% of the video) that this is a video hoax and someone edited this footage and there are no witnesses that live in the area that heard these sounds. Which is a completely plausible explaination. If it isnt construction, it is a hoax in Ukrain.
But the windsor/florida and videos from other regions are not explainable by construction(presumably because councillor said there is no contruction going on in that area). They are not a hoax either because plenty of people called the police, and dailing 911 for a giant hoax multiple times is extremely unsafe and if this is some movie promotion then they will probably be arrested for those unnessacary calls to 911. The councillor will lose his job and all witnesses have lied. (windsor area is where the 911 calls took place, I have no idea about the florida video or any other regions videos like these came from)
From the evidence that I have seen and the footage taken there really is no plausible source of these sounds that I can think of, if someone else can and support it with evidence I will be glad to accept that explaintion, because I will not accept "this is an alien UFO/collosus making noises for their own giant global project".

Here is a spectrograph of a short audio clip of the kiev noises.
I'd be pretty confident saying its a single sound or three that are acoustically altered, layered, and re-mixed into a single file. i.e. someone just mixed it with software.

I don't want to make any claims of the origin of the sounds as long as i'm not provided with all the facts needed to make such claim, but i also don't want to say "it's fake" or "they're just imagining thing" either for the same reason.

I added an updated image to illustrate why this is artificial. I compared a spectrogram of the 'mystery noise' with some outdoor noise on the one hand, and some completely synthesized sounds (Rymdreglage - 8bit trip, an awesome song by the way, you can listen to it **HERE**) on the other. You can probably see the difference

My point is: Idiots and attentionwhores hjump to the most stupid and far fetched explanation first, instead of last.
Yeah that sound MIGHT be aliens, but the chances are insanely low, that sound MIGHT be constructionworking, fake, self-edited, boats, sirens, etc. and the chances for that is NEAR 100% HIGH.
Imagine something plausible, unverifiable (ofc, if not, it wouldn't be cool enough !), that explains the august sounds, other conspiracy things and also the recent US earthquake !
Imagine if the US were constructing tunnels with nuclear weapons ! Funny, no ? :p
Wouldn't really be funny, it would be in violation of various nuclear treaties among other things though. There are many monitoring stations watching for subterranean nuclear tests around the world, not to mention any seismograph would pick it up and pinpoint it within a km.

I was under the impression that that was exactly what The Hum was.
something that bothers me in the video is that the pedestrians on the street dont seem to react at all to the sound. i just dont see anyone getting use to the sound enough to completely disregard it.
This article scared me a little bit more than the bloop actually - For the rest of the sounds it looks like someone wanted to troll the internet and some people are copying his idea.
this thread needs some moderation imo, i reported a few posts, also good job on making those, omh, what they are called, images? graphs? yeah, those grey things, gj
I think that all the people in this thread that are saying this is some viral video are already brainwashed by the aliens. Clearly a weird sound that has no direct explanation must be aliens.

I don't get it... have anyone even checked if it isn't just the person filming added the sound ? And before you say "Well what about people around the world !" just google alien sighting, ghosts or whatever... trust me there a millions of people across the world who claim all matter of things.
This is like the idiocy that more Americans believe in aliens visiting/abducting than in evolution...
Just saying, i think when a person says he has seen a ufo / alien / ghost whatever, that person actually did see something so it's not like they're just making it up (sure, some of them make it up). Something was there, they experienced something, but it doesn't have to be the thing they claimed they saw.
He saw a UFO and thought it was aliens from space, turns out it was a weather balloon. The point i'm trying to make is, that person saw something, just like all those people heard something. Now what it is, we still have to find out.
But you need to realize that those people are idiots, a person who sees or hears an unknown and then claims it to be something that he can't prove or something extremely imaginative... then that person is a godamn asshole who is stirring shit up for attention.

You're absolutely right. When you experience something you don't understand you shouldn't make up stuff, but just admit that you don't know what it was.
If there's one thing I just can't stand it's popular science. Which isn't science at all. It's a Michael Bay trailer. Those videos were about something incredibly mundane pumped full of dramatic music, angles and general bullshit.

Just today i was thinking about those noises again and i remembered the citizens of windsor consulted the ministry of environment so they could determine the cause of the sounds.
Here's what they came up with:
"I've been informally told that, yes, they think it's Zug Island," Windsor-Tecumseh MPP and Liberal Finance Minister Dwight Duncan said Wednesday night.
They still haven't determined what exactly is causing those strange sounds. If they think it is coming from Zug Island, wouldn't it be fairly easy to just ask the people there what machines are active at those times the citizens of windsor are hearing the sounds?
I'm still really interested in this, so if anybody has something to add i would really appreciate it. =)
Not on to bump old threads but I found this video today... it seems to be a compilation of some of the videos in this thread but also some very new footage/sounds.
