While you were/are studying math, have you ever had periods of burnout where you start to question what you're doing? I feel like I'm getting way too lost in all the abstraction. Like I'm almost certainly going to continue down the path, not switch to engineering or something, but what's your method of more or less grounding yourself and figuring out a way to deal with feeling like it's only going to get worse the higher you go?

I consistently try to find parallels between the new/ more abstract stuff with stuff I already understand well (usually prerequisite information). I just go as slowly as I need to until patterns start to form and I can feel comfortable with solving the problems. The math builds on itself, so you can rarely move forward before truly understanding the current material. Go as slowly as you need. The occasional application is always nice, if possible. Also, at some point, many people hit a glass ceiling where it no longer comes naturally and easily to them. It happens. The first time I struggled in math was during my Analysis class (Calc 5, after Multivariable and Diff Eqs), which was all about proving that Calcs 1-4 were true and reliable. Each proof was 2+ pages long and there were tons of deltas and epsilons and my professor wasn't helpful, so I grinded through the work with a few classmates and a ton of practice problems. It's tough; math and science are the kinds of subjects where you can't just simply reserve X hours of studying and then you're guaranteed to *get it*. And as you noted with the math, things get abstract and harder to connect to the real world. What do you plan on doing with your math degree? Maybe it can also just be looked at as a necessarily evil to grind through to get that degree/ job, although hopefully the methodology and possibly the content might be useful for background knowledge in the future, which could provide more optimistic motivation ![]()

Although the more abstract stuff in linear algebra where the only practical applications are in physics that seem completely alien to me also kind of apply. I agree with you though on finding applications, by far the easiest classes for me are probability and combinatorics, since my probability professor and I are both huge poker players, so anytime I need to go to him for help he's always got examples I can visualize well. I'm probably going to go into quantitative analysis, although it's still up in the air at this point. Mr. Bones' Wild Ride is far from over for me, but at least I'm starting to get used to it.

2nd time I rant about this but LEARN HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR YOU TO DO SOME SHIT you fucking retards. "I'll be there in 5 minutes" has never been fucking true in the history of man. That drive feels like 5 minutes to your stupid brain but it takes 15 minutes and it takes you 5 minutes to even get to your car because you lose your keys and your wallet and all that shit. So when you give me an ETA, try to take that into account. Also you look like shit so you don't get to call it "being fashionably late" jokingly every single time.

Then instead of getting mad when they say they are "fashionably late" you can get a little laugh out of them being 5 minutes early.

I get that political parties are mainly bullshit and thus none of them have the answers, but the FN is even more bullshit than the others, as it is bullshit that plays on people's fears and fantasies instead of being rooted in reality. That's what enraging.

Ok -> next week no email, classes ended. I call to ask for an update, they say its been up for 2 weeks holy fuck are you kidding me you said last week it wasnt up and i did not get a fucking email despite being first one to sign up on that 10 page list -> look at new classes, apparently everything is at 8pm still so makes 0 difference as all classes past 7pm were already open. So now i have to debate between commuting to school twice per day at 8am and 8pm or stay at school for 12hours. Or just not take one of the classes for this semester. Fuck man, definitely transferring next year. This school is so shit. Maybe if it was challenging enough i could actually use the 12hrs to do homework but this school is so shitty that wont be needed. And i cant even take more classes at this shit institution or id be stuck there for 60hrs/120 per week. The only positive about this school is that im attending for free. Fuck im so mad I did everything in my power and result is fuckyou. Oh and did i mention 0 waitlists? They literally just told me to check my enrollment page every day in the hopes that a)someone leaves ha b) some other kid spamming refresh didnt get it first or someone gets lucky Good job school, make the majority of your classes night classes that are all empty! + Show Spoiler + The fuck?! Mozambique has free college and yet the US doesn't... Hopefully your location is supposed to be ironic or something..
