My daughter Josie celebrated her first birthday this week, and I discovered that my best friend had been laboring over the past year on a truly epic birthday present. I present the geekiest baby bath towel in the history of the universe:

The pattern is my friend's own work, derived from hours of Google image searches. To make the accomplishment even more epic, this is my friend's first ever cross-stitch project!
Note: My friend is too young to know the original SMB (And she's in grad school. God I'm old.) and didn't realize that the version of Mario she picked can't shoot the fireball killing the Goombah. She's very sorry for the violation of canon.

That's awesome, but wtf is a cross stitch? Is that just embroidered with different colors of thread?

Yes, cross-stitch uses different colors of thread to draw 'pixels' of color, which makes it actually a pretty good medium for doing characters from NES games or other systems with relatively few colors and low resolution.
