Keep it civil guys.
Alright I am sick of warning people: Trolling, flame baiting, and derailing will result in insta bans. The same goes for conspiracy theorists and stupidity generally.
Confirmation was as follows - On-site DNA test which came back as 99% positive. - photos of face sent to CIA and confirmed with photo analysis - confirmed by 20 year old wife who live in pakistan.
This thread is specifically dedicated to the details surrounding the raid/his death. |

Keep it to yourself and believe you're right, "just because" you say so. I could play that game too. "Obama is actually an alien, and I know that it's true because I said so. I don't need to prove anything to anybody. I just enjoy being different than everybody else." Well, that's a great fairy tale, but there's no good reason to believe in what you say. To quote a great essayist of our day "what can be asserted without proof, can be dismissed without proof". Just because most of the US is fairly dull minded doesn't mean your contrarian statements are true. It's also quite evident that you have no real argument from the poor ad hominem attack you tried on me in post 5.

A chance witness? I wonder if we'll ever truly know the whole story, or even if it will matter after the inevitable Hollywood dramatization comes out in 2013 starring Matt Damon.

i wouldn't quite go that far, while yes you couldn't speak out against saddam, people were able to live their lives in relative normality and safety.

Hmm...I just read a facebook post from one of my Pakistani Muslim friends:
To kill the person who is responsible for thousands of deaths, we have killed hundreds of thousands innocents in Pak n Afgh. We killed Usama after 10 years, a billion dollars and a million deaths. Using him as an excuse, several drone attacks hv been made in several cities of Pak, lands and lives hv been taken from Afgh. Fair, nae?
Obviously a bias exists for him, and his viewpoint still may not be truly holistic, but this seems to be the truth, right? Anything response to that?

Hi everyone,
Ill go straight to the point. I understand why every american is happy about the Bin Laden's death. By his orders, thousands of americans were killed almost 11 years ago. All of the sudden many people seems to justify the war in middle east by the death of one man. But I encourage you to see things out of the box starting by watching this TED conference:http://www.ted.com/talks/sam_richards_a_radical_experiment_in_empathy.html . In fact, this war did a LOT more innocents casualties overseas compared to 9/11 over many years. I think we should put our selfs in the shoes of some middle east resident and try to understand their frustration against us. I will never come close to excuse any terrorist act. But the U.S and many other countries including mine, Canada, pull pressure on rich in oil countries to steal their resources without ever caring about the wealth of the population living in said countries. We did that for many decades now and I think we should never rejoice of any human death there. I have mixed feelings right now... I don't know if I should be happy or ashamed regarding of what we did as a great nation in this part of the world.

Rofl, I only have a flip cam but I actually came straight from work and walked to the white house so I didn't bother to pick it up. I'm sure you guys will see more pictures on the internet coming up, but it was pretty ridiculous, there was just a jam packed section from Madison to Jackson avenue, and it even extended onto Lafayette Square (for those of you who don't understand how big that is look it up on google images or google maps)

I'm sad to see people actively celebrating a person's death.
Sure, we're talking about Bin Laden, who deserved (harsh) punishment and evaded being brought to justice long enough. The world will probably be a better place with less people like him. That doesn't justify people singing and parading in the street, though.
And his death won't change anything. It won't change the difficult US international relations, the post-war development in Afghanistan and Iraq, the tensions in Pakistan and northern Africa. It's been 10 years since 9/11 and for all we know, Bin Laden hasn't done any serious scheming or plotting since then and has posed much less of a threat for the US and the world than many other dangerous individuals in the world.
It's ok to be glad that this particular chapter of history has found an ending, but that's it. People celebrating and chanting "USA, USA" because somewhere on the other side of the globe, a man was killed (who did horrible things 10 years ago but has long since been surpassed in atrocities by others) ... I find that a little bit absurd.

Ask your friend why the Pakistani government spent 10 years hiding him? They could have handed him over years ago, or done the job they were supposed to do in the Battle of Tora Bora and this could have all been avoided.
Pakistan has been complicit in hiding this guy and a Pakistani person is in no position to criticize.
Pakistan's ISI is a terrorist organization.

You know what's scary?
I'm sorta scared for Obama. We really don't know what Muslim extremists are capable of, what if they try to assassinate Obama as a form of retaliation?

you didn't have freedom of speech, but saddam's government being secular, they didn't have sharia law in place. it may be better now that we are withdrawing i don't know i haven't kept up on the situation, i do know that 2 years ago people would rather have had saddam in power because they didn't need to be afraid to go outside, women didn't need to be afraid of being beaten by extremists because they were driving to work.
