Yeah, people need to realize a watch isn't for time keeping, it's a fashion accessory.

These days I wear this one the most.

Like this one because it looks awesome :p And I dont like when watches are too clunky... This one is rather flat

What kind of watch is that?

It's an Emporio Armani, but I couldn't find the exact model (with the electronic date / display). Feel free to browse here for similar models:

Yeah I don't know what to say about that one. I'm not familiar with the brand and I can't make it up from the photo, I was hoping the owner would come and shed more light into the situation so I could look it up.

drool worthy watch. I have seen the chrono version of this and also like that one a lot, but the clean style fits the case better. Lovely watch :-)

Yea i chose the non-chrono one because i like this slick look better, i find it more stylish(Clous de Paris FTW).What's weird is that i cannot find it in the Longines online catalog anymore...Maybe I should look harder..

Watches are designer/style items.
Just like designer clothes "worth" is down to the individual.
How much do you think a quartz watch actually "costs" to make? Yet some Tags costs £1,200+

Plus the chinese make a lot of good watches (as well as a lot of rubbish).
Some of the top top swiss brands have their parts made in China and then they just "test" them at their swiss base and call it swiss made.

I can't say how good the quality is on that watch based just on the picture; but if it's a geniune automatic, inca-bloc balance then it's a really cool watch. Don't diss it.

It's only half a million dollars.

This begs the questions, is that watch really SO HARD TO MAKE that it MUST cost over 550k or are the people that made it snobby jackasses?

In all fairness, it's an exquisite piece of engineering.
I'm not saying it's WORTH that much, but the sheer statistics of it are mind-boggling.

First of all, it has FOUR tourbillons, with a spherical differential to make sure that they would never be out-of-sync. A watch with just one of those will go for $40k++ easily, now think about putting four of them in and making them work in perfect harmony.
Number of parts
• Complete movement: 531 parts
• 2 double Tourbillon cages: 128 parts each
• Weight of each double cage: 1.17 g
• Spherical differential: 28 parts
Number of jewels 63
Olived-domed jewels in gold chatons

So, 500+ moving parts, and the tourbillon themselves have over 100 parts but weigh just over 1 gram (per pair!).

If you'd like to read more about the mechanism you can find it here:
http://www.thetimetv.com/news-baselworld-greubel-forsey-2nd-fundamental-invention-quadruple-tourbillon-differentiel-spherique-558-90

Again, I'm not saying these are worth half a mil, but add the engineering to the gold case, to the "brand" and the rarity of it, and you'll understand why there will be people to pay that much for it.

Plus, it's fking gorgeous.

It's like a beautiful piece of engineering art.
If a painting can be worth half a million, that certainly can.
I don't know if I'd be able to wear it outside the house :p put it in a cabinet at home or something.

I wonder whether the time-keeping is actually improved by all the additions or if the extra-complexity just creates problems.

What amazes me is that Breguet invented the tourbillon in the 18th Century. Such a genius

This is not my watch, but I wish it was. Does that count?

This is my watch. It's really thick, though, so I don't wear it. I just carry it in my pocket. (That works better for teaching anyway, because I can leave it on a lectern and check it more easily.

I bought mine at Think Geek. I'm sure there are other retailers. Also have their binary desk clock.
