Nice thread! Some beauties in here. Reminded me of some old pocket watch that was lying around my folks place that I discovered during a move to a new home. I Googled the silver hallmarks but still having trouble on the date it was made and the maker's mark. So far I only know it is from Chester, England and it's Sterling silver .925. It comes with an unoriginal winder and when I wound it a few times it still works.

All 3 watches are Longines. The one on the left is mine. The middle one belongs to my cousin and the black one with diamonds is my dads. My dad and uncle bought me the watch on my 24th birthday while we were in Taiwan in Taipei 101 (tallest building in Taiwan). My watch is only sold in Taiwan and is worth $1400 retail and the cheapest of the 3. At first I didn't really want to buy a watch there because it was expensive and watches don't really serve any function nowadays aside from being jewelry but I figured if nothing else I can resell the watch for more in a few years when they stop making the watch.

My family trade is Horology so ill see if i can get an answer for you tomorrow! I dunno if i should post my family collection, it'd be kinda big lol. Some of the highlights include a pocket watch made by Abraham-Louis Bregue and also a watch my grandfather owns which hes only seen elsewhere in the British museum given as a gift to a royal princess.

For my next watch I really want a skeleton mechanical, unfortunately the beautiful IWC ones are out of my budget, like this beauty:

I started buying watches about six years ago, I have about 20 now, but this is my current favorite. It's a little too big to wear all the time, but is great for standing around not doing anything.

I know this isnt reall an advice thread but I'll try to post it here anyway. My dad gave me his 70's Omega Genevé that looks like this but with a black nato strap. I already have a 50's Lemania with a black leather strap. Should I change the strap on the Omega and to what? The Lemania already matches my "dressier" belt+shoe combo so I need something more casual. I dont know if you are supposed to color coordinate nato straps or not. I also dont really know if thats the best look for this watch or if I should go for a metal one. I'm clueless about the "rules" in that area as well.

It's really up to you. You're the one that's supposed to enjoy it when you look at it so you get to pick which kind of strap you like most.
The only "rules" are for dress-watches, in which case a simple, thin (not padded), black leather strap will do. Hirsch makes a lot of such, very cool-looking straps.

However, any other style is purely personal choice. I would personally look into a slim stainless steel band for that one. You can find a lot of them on watch band center, including some that have similar design to the original. You can just pick one you think looks best. Oh, and when buying stainless steel I would suggest looking into the ones that are over 50eur as a rule of the thumb, because the cheaper ones have a really "flimsy" feel to them. Solid links is a must-have imo.

Edit: also mesh might look really nice on that, now that I think of it.

Thanks. I think I'll go for a normal steel one then. Should be kinda casual and allround. Probably will try a local watch store first. Really cool guy that runs it, he have been doing it for ~50years now and I guess he now runs it just because he thinks it's so much fun.
Nice to know that there are only strict rules for dess watches, but I'm pretty sure that if I would go around with brown shoes, brown belt and a black leather strap, it might look weird. Fortunately I dont even own such a combo.

No, you're supposed to match the colors I guess. The rules apply more to the face of the watch (super clean/simple, no day/date/seconds hand if possible,etc.), and the strap has to be thin just like the watch. But I've seen people with submariners during fancy events so nobody really cares anymore. I guess you could even have odd-colored straps as long as they match your attire.

Well I could always try to get a "Regimental strap" (a NATO strap with multiple colours) that matches my non leather belt. Dunno material but it's white and marine with a little red. Still have to sumble upon one that matches pretty good if I should go down that route.
And for people with subs to dress (or any) events, well I think it looks silly. A decent dress watch dont have to cost a arm and a leg.
