I have compiled all of the joke posts in this thread at a quick glance. The 37 posts consist of:
4 referances to the sun
1 with a donkey on the face
2 referances to Flavor Flav
18 referances to mobile phones
3 referances to computers
2 referances to the neighborhood watch
1 with a flying monkey on the face
4 impausablely owned or fake watches
1 with a girly, pink pony on the face

The worst thing about some of these posts are that some are shamefullly done by users with a couple thousand posts.

Not sure if its good to just treat this as watch discussion too, but fuck i really want the 007 Seamaster.

I look at them so different though, I don't view the expensive watch as an investment becuase i wouldnt plan to sell one in my posession after buying. So if i do buy a 007 (which i tried on today...so gooood) its mine to pass down. I guess i could think about the pass down value, though.

I know someone who has the QOS 007 (the one with the pattern on the dial, from quantum of solace), it's really nice and I like it more than the first one, but... how much is it? I didn't think you could still find it. Or is it preowned?

Cool watch, and I know where you're coming from, you buy it to wear it and enjoy it, not keep it in a safe and resell it. Good for you!

I dunno how much longer it'll be out for... I saw it at the Omega store at a mall nearby (feel free to pm if you want exactly where). Not a lot more than I thought actually. $5000 (new), which is about the same as the classic Seamaster.

My only problem is that my Orient has a black face, so if I do buy one, especially a high end one, I'd like a white face. QSS is all black.

That's the older version (50th Anniversary - thus the red 50). Still a great watch and collector's item, but the quantum of solace is this one:

I guess that's why it's "only" $5000.
But if you like it and can go for it, it's a good choice. I have an all-black steinhart ocean one DLC and I love it.

Oh that's odd... Why's they have the older one for sale then

Thanks for the correction. QS bezel looks better but not the face.

Yeah they kept the "general style" of the old/new seamaster (planet ocean), they just changed the dial and such on the LE versions. I have seen the normal version of the old one as well and it's really nice, it feels good on the hand and i like the shape of the bezel too. New one is so-so if you ask me. I respect it, but I would rather get a PO Chrono than a QoS LE.

pure sex.

edit: not to mention the movement on the new chrono is far beyond the LE, and the old chrono.

Eh, that really depends. I believe it would be hard to "move" a watch such as itay-noy. I don't know many people who would buy it and I know a bunch of guys who love watches.
Even more known watches such as Grand Seikos are hard to resell, because most people have the idea that expensive watches need to be swiss-made, or Rolex/Omega/Tag type of watches.

If you buy such watch you need to do it for yourself. It will be much harder to resell than a 2000eur Omega imo, and even Omegas/Rolexes lose value in time (unless they are limited editions of course). A good investment is what someone I know bought for under 10k eur: the Ulysse Nardin Monaco. This baby will only go up in price, being only 100 units in the world. You could sell it right now for over 20k eur imho.

Also, speaking of hard to move watches, one of my holy grails is the Philippe DuFour Simplicity:
Over 30k eur, but such a beauty. And 99.9% of the people won't even know your watch is worth killing you for.

...just dreamy.

Edit: for those who have not heard of Philippe DuFour and like watches, I think you would really enjoy this:

Ulysse Nardin watches are so... so.. asdasdasdasdasd

Wish I had that kind of money. Or Zenith. Like, I actually like the Itay-noy watches better, but it'd be nice to be able to spend 10-20k on a watch just for its outrageous show-off value.

Sarapeneva another really nice watch-maker:

sup guys, not to knowledgeable on watches since ive never actually owned a really nice one, but can someone tell me whats the difference between the different straps? like leather and steel, etc. ? im really loving leather looking watches and planning to buy one, but i have eczema which makes my skin easily get irritated, wondering if that should be something i should consider before buying a leather strapped watch?

thanks.

Metal bracelets and rubber/plastic straps can get wet without harm, so they are useful on watches that have a water proof/water resistant (not the same!) indication. Metal bracelets are a bit heavier around the wrist, and -depending on the quality- can occasionally pull out your manly arm-hair Rubber/plastic straps can cause irritation when they get wet/sweaty, so I'd avoid those if you have eczema. Leather straps are pretty comfortable, but you have to avoid getting them wet. Also, some people complain about leather straps picking up bad odor from the sweat that they absorb Personally I never had any issues with that. Don't know what that says about me

It's fairly common among watch enthusiasts to have multiple straps for a single watch, and change them around once in a while. So maybe more important then the bracelet/strap that you buy with the watch, is whether the watch allows easy changing of straps. This way you can try a leather strap, then try a canvas NATO, and see what you like most.

YMMV, good luck in finding a good watch that suits your needs! Wear it in health!

By the way, here's the newest addition to my modest collection: an automatic Seiko 7002-7001 (1991) with a blue aftermarket dial/chapter ring. In the picture it's on a black NATO, currently on a black Hirsch Liberty.

thanks alot mate really helped, yeah i really love the look of leather, and i actually didnt realise u can change the straps on watches, i mean now that i think of it, it does make sense =.= shows how much i know about watches...

thanks again!

Wish I had that kind of money. Or Zenith. Like, I actually like the Itay-noy watches better, but it'd be nice to be able to spend 10-20k on a watch just for its outrageous show-off value.

Well, I am by no means a watch enthusiast. In fact, I hardly know anything about them. But I do understand why people wear watches to workplaces/dates/etc, appreciate their beauty and why they have a value in something other than simply telling time (I own an iPhone just like you). How long have you been around these forums? Trolling was never a prevalent occurence in any thread that's meant to actually provide some substance, and hopefully will never be. It's just pointless and dumb.

EDIT: Never knew Omega made such sexy watches. That is the first thing I am going to save up for once I get out of school ;D

Some IRL pics of the watch I posted awhile back. The watch is great, it has a very quality feel and the Duratect titanium is silky smooth. The pics may make it look a little bland, but it looks very sharp and clean in person, especially with some sun glinting off it.

The numerals are actually raised, not just painted on the dial, and the lume is pretty good. The bezel is black DLC (Diamond-like Carbon), and is very subdued but it works really well with this watch, providing just the right amount of contrast to the Ti. The crown is a screw-lock, and the calendar is perprtual to the year 2100. The only negative is that the radio recieve function only works in Japan, but I don't mind at all. The accuracy has reportedly been very good even without it according to reviews from WUS forums.

Cheers!

Don't get one of those massive "tell you the time in seven different languages and timezones, plus the current position of the moon, plus stock market updates, not compensating for anything at all... watch"

Get a sleek, subtle small/medium sized watched, make sure the actual watch looks fine on your wrist, you can get wristbands adjusted/replaced. But it all depends on whether you want a watch as a fashion accessory or a watch for the amount of "useful" information it displays.

About $30 on amazon, add in another $10 for a second NATO (strap).

Was recommended to me through TL actually (JWD is a boss), and its a steal for the price. It ticks kinda loud, though.

I just want time (date is ideal as well)

Yeah, I'm aware of the general trend. I want something that tells time, and has the date. Other than that? A seconds hand. But in all seriousness, any specific models?
