I have an Eco Drive watch and haven't considered such a notion.

I remember looking through this thread a while ago and you guys inspired me to go and get a watch; I hadn't owned one for ages. This is the one I went for. I got it a couple months ago, but I just forgot to share with TL >.<
I wanted a simple dial that didn't have any much other stuff as I find it just way too distracting. I didn't do too much browsing for different brands, although I did specifically request a nice looking bulova I saw in this thread, but they did not have it in stock. Instead, I saw this baby and knew instantly that it met all my classiness requirements. Haven't looked back since =] thats a beautiful looking watch... u remember the name of it?
The name is 'HB1013' by BOSS Black and can be found in their online store

Meh, it's like going to the dentist every six months. You know you're supposed to, but you never do unless something bad happens. :D Technically, you're supposed to go to a certified shop to get it "checked-up" every couple of years or so. If it's a diver (100m WR and above), you need to change the rubber gasket between the case and the cap, because that degrades in time and the watch can lose its water resistance. Every 10-15-20 years or so you should have the oils inside it changed, especially for mechanical/automatic watches, since those are constantly moving and wearing the super-tiny pieces out, so it will lose accuracy and such. It's like taking your car to the shop, they look at it and let you know what "needs fixing".
Now, on quartz watches, you can do that when the battery runs out (should be about 5 years on a eco-drive), because few people change their own batteries anyway. Just ask for a 'routine check-up' and if it's a good watch-smith (i don't know the English word for guy who repairs watches), they'll know what to do. But generally I wouldn't worry unless you have a really valuable watch ($1000++ ) or if you really care about it. A quartz lasting 10+ years is good enough for $200 if you ask me.
Edit: From the wikipedia link above:
For water resistant and diving Eco-Drive watches Citizen recommends a watch gasket exchange every 2 or 3 years to preserve their water resistance because watch gaskets which form a watertight seal degrade as they age. Further Citizen recommends maintenance for Eco-Drive watch movements in regular intervals in order to extend the life of the watch movement, since the gears used in running watch movements are subject to slow wear.[9] Citizen states that their lubricants for Long-Lasting Precision Equipment when used in watches, timepiece movements remain smooth for a long time as the oil does not harden even after 20 years.[10]

The outer ring is the hours (the missing one represents the current hour), the next ring is minutes. Then in the middle there's another timezone which I'll most likely set to KST.

Oh, that's pretty cool. So I understand correctly the time on that picture is 4:25? Must take some getting used. Nice gift though!
