![]() I remember looking through this thread a while ago and you guys inspired me to go and get a watch; I hadn't owned one for ages. This is the one I went for. I got it a couple months ago, but I just forgot to share with TL >.< I wanted a simple dial that didn't have any much other stuff as I find it just way too distracting. I didn't do too much browsing for different brands, although I did specifically request a nice looking bulova I saw in this thread, but they did not have it in stock. Instead, I saw this baby and knew instantly that it met all my classiness requirements. Haven't looked back since =]

Unfortunately not even the box it came in really says the model number or anything. So, I had to do some searching for the picture and the online store where I recognized my watch from says its a: "Hugo Boss Men's 1512478 H1004 Gold Ion-Plating Silver Dial Watch." However, the back of my watch says HB. 85. 1. 34. 2187; 1.496.741. Now that I look at the picture again I did notice that my watch's dial is not completely white, but instead a light goldish color, although besides that the design is identical. Hope that helps.

Could I get some of your input / opinion on black leather strap watches versus more 'traditional' silver watches? I am planning on buying a new watch over Christmas Break, but I can't make up my mind what exactly I want to buy. On one hand, I want try something new and get a sophisticated-looking black leather strap. On the other hand, I also want to upgrade my old silver watch. What's your take on either one, in terms of style, versatility, elegance, and etc? My price range is around $150 - $200 if that matters at all. Thanks in advance.

The first brand that pops to mind is Laco, which is somewhat affordable, and one of the major brands that produce such watches. There are also more expensive brands (such as Stowa, Archimede, or ever really expensive brands such as Glashütte Original or IWC), and less expensive brands (such as Steinhart). I would recommend Steinhart as it has an awesome "bang for your buck" rating, but they do start at over 350eur http://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/pilot-watch.html If you can afford more, go for Laco/Stowa, if you need it to cost less, there are various companies that make them cheaper, but you make compromises in terms of movement quality, so I would suggest you raise some money and get something that will last for years. Oh, and beware, these type of watches are mostly mechanical (meaning manual-wind). Automatics are rare in this field. I assume you mean leather strap vs metallic bracelet. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Leather has the advantage of being a bit more comfortable on the skin and giving the watch a more 'stylish' look. But they degrade in time and can catch a bit of BO if you wear them too much (and sweat a lot). This can lead to having to change it. They are also much lighter than steel. Metallic has the advantage of being a bit more durable, even if they scratch or whatever, they're there to last. if you get a bracelet for it you'll probably always have that to spare. The "standard" thing that people who are passionate with watches do (if they have both options available) is to pick the bracelet version and then later on purchase a leather strap as well. It's cheaper to do so than to pick the leather strap and further on purchase a steel bracelet (in 95% of the cases). That's what I did with my Steinhart Ocean DLC. Now I wear the leather strap in the winter and the steel band in warm weather. Bottom line though, it shouldn't be a setback. If you like a watch a lot, it doesn't matter. If you buy leather you can always change it if it goes bad. If you buy steel, you can always get a replacement as well. As for a short review of "style" and what makes a dress watch, check out this post: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=185543¤tpage=25#494 And for your price range, I suggest going for Orient or Seiko if you want automatic, or Tissot/Citizen/Casio/Atlantic/Timex/Bulova if you want quartz.

Could I wear this with a formal attire? Definitely. That's a great choice, and yes, it's formal because it's clean, simple and thin. Strap is nice as well. However, note that it lacks a "seconds" hand. That helps with the "dress watch" factor as it keeps is super simple, but it might bother some people. And since it's a Citizen then you do get decent quality, especially for that price. The movement is interesting as well, it's a quartz that uses solar power as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eco-Drive Citizen claims that with regular maintenance the watch should easily last 20+ years. ![]()
