A lot of people learn martial arts, but when it comes to street fights, even if you know how to defend themselves, you'll lose when the opponent really just wants to mess you up, and what holds you back are some of the set moves you learn.
Not sure if you guys all watch Human Weapon, but after the episode on Krav Maga I was amazed at how little I knew.. tried out simulations and just knew if someone wanted to kill me, what I knew wouldn't hold.
Have a look
Think about someone trying to stab you to death. A drunken bar fight doesn't always end with barehands, and can escalate to broken bottles or someone pulling a knife if not a gun.
10 years ago I emptied an ashtray in a guys drink for no reason. He wanted me to buy him a new drink and I refused. He punched me really hard but I was lucky. No broken stuff or anything. Just a little blood from nose and mouth. The guy that punched me broke his hand. Guess I have hard bones.
Havnt been in any sorts of trouble since. Imo if you often end in fights its because you have some mental issues,,,,unless you ofc live in a very criminal area. I know some guys who end up in fights on a regular basis saying that they are always provoked and what not. Well dont get provoked that easily then! Its not hard to avoid fights.
First fight of my life with my brother about 3 months ago, noting I'm 23 and my bro is 24 and we've never gotten along. We're both not big he's like 130 lb 5'8, i'm like 135 lb 5'6.
Note: I'm in my final year at UW, he's dropped out of first year of college then got into a uni and is now redoing his 2nd year for the second time. Suffice to say he's a dumbass.
To preface this my bro thinks he's the shit (But I don't think he's ever had a girlfriend) and he bet me $500 bucks that he could get a hot girl to stay over night the week before school started. Of course when I accepted the bet he reneged basically admitted he couldn't do it.
Starts when we're talking about SC2, both came home for a weekend from uni and I got home first so I had to go drive and pick him up to bring him home from bus stop. First thing he tells me is that he got SC2 two days ago and after his ridiculous theory crafting about how he knows all and I don't know anything (I played since Beta) we get home and:
Bro: "9 depot, 11 rax, 12 gas is the standard build order for all terrans" Me: "No, it's not" Bro: "Yeah it is, I'll bet you, all the Koreans use it" Me: "No, they don't. I'll bet you $100 that you're wrong" Bro: "Ok" Me: "100 bucks right?" Bro: "Yeah" Me: "Its 10 depot, 12 rax, 13-14 gas" Bro: "You're an idiot there's no way that's efficient" Me: "I'll prove it to you, right now" Bro: "Nah man you're wrong you get stuck at 10 supply" Me: "You start with 11 supply" Bro: -.- Me: "You owe me 100 bucks" Bro: "Nah man we didn't shake on it" Me: "Don't be a bitch, don't bet if you never intend to pay"
Bro: *shoves me into wall and starts choking me* Me: *swipe down on his arms and shove him away* Bro: *rushes me, gets a few hits on arms, ribs, glancing blow to chin and temple* Me: *somehow pin his arms with 1 hand, wild swing right into his face* Bro: *falls* Me: *starts hammer fisting as hard as i can* Mom comes screaming - end fight
Bro's given me shit all my life and it was the first time we ever got in a fist fight, mostly I just walk away (since he's bigger than me and he went to military school). First time I ever fought back and I won He ended up with a black eye and a bloody nose, I got a couple scratches on my face and neck. Mom ended up driving me back to school that night (fight happened probably 2 am).
Dumbest shit ever, told all my friends and they always laugh at me when I start with "My bro and I got into a fight over starcraft 2"
In 8th grade, one of my best friends kept trying to steal my roasted chicken from me (it was my favorite cafeteria meal) so I snapped and punched him in the face. True story. But it wasn't a hard punch and I apologized so we remained friends. nbd.

If your location wasnt japan i would find it hard to resist from asking a question which would likely get me banned for 2 weeks or so. + Show Spoiler +
I've had some childhood experiences, got dozens of beatings by teachers, step-fathers, my mother, by a brown belt karate girl, black eye'd by a foreigner etc but usually it's only been superficial pain, I've never been like hospitalized. Overall I was bullied for 11 years but I never really hit back in the face, like ever in my life despite the fact that I have a talent for boxing.
I avoided a fight in recent time, about 3 months ago during a period that I was homeless for 2 months, travelling through Oslo. I walked to right outside the royal palace, there where two guards patrolling there even with guns and there where some tourists there plus two brown foreigners who where sniffing some substance out of some napkin, they seemed high.
One of them came up to me wanting something, either to beg or something and I walked away saying "no thanks" he then gave me the finger, started kicking dirt at me and telling me "fuck you". I then leaped at him and he leaped at me, I grabbed his shoulders, pushed him back and he then realized how strong I was. I told him "what are you doing, you are high, you are high." his friend or whatever then came and said "we are sorry ok, we'r sorry". I relaxed my body language, wished them good luck in life, shake'd their hands and told them not to do drugs.
I'm really annoyed this whole experience happened at that time in my life, partially because I regret not doing anything to him when he was clearly being offensive for absolutely no reason and deserved retribution, I felt so furious. I promised myself after my childhood to never let anyone disrespect me, unfortunately it happens occasionally with dumbass, crazy strangers and I still just try to solve things peacefully or just ignore them and do nothing like I have done most of my life.
It bothered me greatly because right after this I went to the like national theater nearby, payed and watched part 2 of John Cleese's stand up show "paying my wife." I barely laughed, I guess the first part was better, but the man has just suffered from old age and a divorce. He was the first celebrity I had seen live, a real legend and to me it occurred how people over-hype celebrities, they're all just humans with flaws just like the rest of us.
My only advice to others is to always be vigilant and sane, stay physically strong, never get drunk when you are out among other people...things can happen. If groups of strangers want to pick a fight with you and you are not Bruce Lee skilled. You are better off swallowing you're pride and walking away, whatever anger you're feeling will pass like chemicals in your brain.
Yes, I've had a weird life but it has made me into an aware, unique and critical thinking individual.
Edit : The Krav Maga video was really interesting and show real life authentic situations, it's really no bullshit or fancy moves you learn there just life and death skills.
When I was 14, some dumb fight between me+friends and a group of people from a rival summer camp. Nothing really came of it, we just threw rocks and yelled at each other for a while.
Honestly, I've been challenged to fights, and I usually just walk away. It's not worth it to me to "prove my manhood" or some shit, I'd much rather be healthy and unbruised/broken.
ah the good old days, i didnt have many frends because i started off picking a fight with the strongest kids in the class to be the boss..... surprisingly i kept rising up in the ranks till i beat a guy 2 years older than me. in high school i fought this guy and my fighting stance was terrible... keep walking to the guy with my hands up until i can reach him. the guy was bigger and had more reach, but i was able to take hits. i won many fights because of this but now i dodge fights whenever i can.
Only once that i can remember, in 2007, and it wasn't really a fight.
This one kid (Idk if he was mentally retarded, gay, both or something else) decided it was a good idea to dry hump the tent i was sleeping in. He kept doing it, and i warned him that i was gona punch him in the face if he didn't stop. He didn't stop, and i punched him in the face. Didn't even get in trouble, cause i warned him and he was being a retard.
Eighth grade this guy was pissed in a b-ball game at recess, because I kept out rebounding him and schooling him even though he went to some expensive b-ball camp. So when I got the rebounds he would pick me up and drop me, like it was fucking WWF or something. Finally, I try to punch him in his round, soft gut, but I miss and hit his hipbone, breaking my hand, failing to injure him in the slightest. Haven't fought since. Last I heard, he was in jail for assaulting someone in high school.

You sound like a real asshole with mental issues. Why else would you dump an ashtray in someone's drink for "no reason"? Is this a joke post or something? If someone did that to me, they would buy me a new one or I would break my hand on them.

I know, its a really dumbass thing to do, but I was in 8th grade, and had a shit of testosterone going on. So in a bathroom, he punches me, and again, I went crazy. I highkicked him in the face, and just started pounding on him. High kick learned from taekwondo btw.
I usually walk away from someone trying to start a fight with me. I got in a couple fights in high school. This one punk kept trying to kick me and provoke me, so I threw him to the ground and he never bothered me again. Another time a kid got mad and punched me in the head literally because I was better at math than him. He had a ridiculous form and made a funny yelling noise when he did it. Didn't even hurt, but he sure was stoked. I lolled, stared at him, and he fled.
Man I have so many stories. Here in shanghai I've heard of and witnessed so many fights. I was almost involved in two but in the end everything worked out. First in 11th grade there was this asshole who thought he was the shit cuz he was popular, but the truth is everyone in school hated him. One day the guys girlfriend started flirting with my friend and when he found out, he told my friend to meet him outside school on Friday to settle it. When others people at school heard everyone wanted to see the guy get his ass beat so on that day, 20-30 other guys from our school and other international schools who hated him went to watch him lose in a fight to my friend, but turns out my friend got his ass beat and on the guys watching got really pissed. Some of the guys pulled the guy to an alley and beat the shit outta him with basebal bats which gave him a concussion, proceeded to get pissed off at my friend for losing and wanted to beat him up and started to take out brass knuckles and police sticks. However I was ready that day and pulled out my nunchucks and told them to back off. They let us go that day, but when I got back to school I had to constantly watch my back cuz they could have jumped me at anytime and carried my nunchucks with me everywhere. And it then turns out that my friend whom I protected that day gave the guys my phone number and told them where to find me and so he guys went and looked for me. They found me and told me to get in their van but I told them I wasn't going anywhere with them. It was the last day before summer holidays and I really didnt want to fight them and so I apologized and gave them some money to leave me alone. Hey finally did and that was the end of that. The second time I was at a club and was minding my own business when my friend started to dance with this chick, my friend was lesbian so I think the girls boyfriend didn't mind but them my friend got me to dance with her and them the guy got pissed off and tried to pull me out of he club, the girl I was dancing with pulled me back into the crowd and so the guy lost me, he kept looking around the club but I think he forgot what I looked like cuz he passed by me like 5 times and after awhile he gave up. Lots of other stories. I learn Chinese sanda but recently broke my femur sparring my 200 pound friend. On crutches, and it's been 3 months. Everything in the world can be solved in a clean honorable one on one fight where you try to hurt the guy but dont kill him, some people really deserve to get beat up cuz after the first fight, the guy my friend fought was never an asshole to anyone again.
No, never been in a fight. I would never start a fight. There's just no reason to do it, ever. If someone was physically aggresive toward me, I probably wouldn't fight back unless there was absolutely no way to avoid it (I would rather run or call for help).
Yeah, I'm a pussy, but I just think that there's no reason for grown adults to physically fight like children. I have the same attitude toward people who ever under any circumstances get ragingly, red-faced angry, even without physical violence. There's no reason for it, and it just makes you look like an idiot. I got over temper tantrums when I hit double digits.
One time in elementary school, though, some kid punched me in the face because I was calling him stupid or something. I just kind of laughed it off and looked forward to however he was gonna get punished. I never did find out how he got punished (I think he got suspended), but I got a detention for "provoking" him. what BS
