I don't know if this has been posted yet, but you can apparently download the Wikileaks Insurance file off Piratebay now. It's a 1.4gb file containing all sorts of juicy stuff that can be opened once Assange releases the password. I don't know if it's legit or not, but I'm downloading it anyway.

(1) not calling a young woman the day after he had enjoyed a night with her, (2) asking her to pay for his bus ticket, (3) having unsafe sex, and (4) participating in two brief affairs in the course of one week

biggest outrage and abuse of a Western police system I've heard of in awhile.

I'm confident that once Assange is in American hands (through Sweden) he will be dead/ locked away in maximum security for the rest of his life.

Yeah, releasing the locations of vital infrastructure to the US is totally information transparency. We as a people sure as hell need to know that. I don't know what I could've done without that.

Girls coming out saying they were coerced into sex is always a global plot. I'm sure that any sex coercian charges should always just be dropped because it's a CIA plot right?

Wikileaks has only posted things that shows war crimes and nothing that could be seen as an attack on the global community at all.

The rape charges were initially dropped by Swedish prosecutors many months ago. Only when Wikileaks began its 'megaleaks' did the prosecutor suddenly feel the need to revisit the case without any new evidence.

No there was a battle over different judges on what the allegations would be classified as. Some said rape, some said sexual misconduct. It was never dropped.

Anyone else feel like this is just proof that it's already over for us? Us as in normal people. We can see this circus happening in full global view, knowing it's all crap and that governments are lying and acting immorally, and there's _absolutely_ _nothing_ we can do. Assange is going to get convicted by these obvious lies while millions of us stand around shocked.
The dangers of poor typing skills can be evinced by the dire parable about the hungry boy who accidentally ate a luscious red Yamato, and promptly died.

Julian Assange's (very good imo) piece on the current events surrounding Wikileaks.

I have troubles understanding why everyone supports everything wikileaks. I think a lot of stuff they have leaked is fantastic. Videos of people being killed in Iraq, shady corporate practices. However, with the latest diplomatic cables leaks I honestly think it is going too far. There are a lot of things in the diplomatic cables that have no reason to be leaked. There is some information that should be kept private and not released. I don't see how diplomats from the US and other countries feelings towards other countries is wrong or shows corruption. Why wouldn't the leaders of various countries talk to each other about how they feel and what they think about other countries.

Of course, what he has been arrested for is total nonsense.

You need to understand that if Wikileaks began cherrypicking information and Deciding what They thought was suitable for the public to hear, they would effectively be doing exactly the same thing as the governments they seek to reveal, no?

If the entire philosophical foundation of Wikileaks was to reveal the truth, how then can they choose which truths they want to reveal? Their position would be hypocritical in the extreme, and they would become the exact same as the governments they're criticizing. They're no better if they decide what the people should and shouldn't know.

You may have had a point if the list wasn't posted in response to interpol calling for his arrest. It was an attack, for no other reason but revenge. Wikileaks is no better than a government trying to protect itself.

what list? the diplomatic cables? those started coming out couple days _before_ interpol issue an arrest warrant.

What we, as normal people are going to see, is a man with skewed views on how global progress works and is going to jail for crimes against the global community that borders on terrorism.

Your post is just weird, but if you want to read more about the circumstances and background regarding the so called "rape allegations", Israel Shamir and Paul Bennett have done some research on the subject, published on CounterPunch

Before this was researched, everyone was screaming it was a plot before any facts came out. It disgusted me that so many people would dismiss a serious allegation that would have jail time in america just because of his celebrity status.

wait a condom breaking is worth jail time in the US?

I seriously cannot believe you just wrote that, in this context, in context of the material released, in the context of the "global community", in the context of international law, etc etc etc, seriously.......?!?!!?

The level of hypocrisy regarding this really is stunning.

it is if the girl asks you to stop having sex because of the condom breaking and you decide to continue.

I would be absolutely shocked if he got stuck with anything serious. Legally, there's nothing on him.

If, however, he actually does get thrown in jail there's more avenues today than ever before to 'fight the power.' The simplest way that comes to mind is the giant 'Donate' button on the Wikileaks webpage, but if you're up to putting in the time and energy, finding out how to take more drastic action is as simple as sending an email or two to the right places. If you really care, step up and get involved.

The really dangerous thing isn't that we can't do anything. It's that we don't.

Well since they're dumb enough to protest in the streets about how all education should be free (it is, it's called a library), then they'd probably protest the justified extradition of a war criminal to the united states.

I don't think you know what a "war criminal" means.

Such big gestures. Explain how he is a war criminal. I'm sensing a lot bitterness in you for some reason.

Seriously speaking, nothing he released wasn't anything surprising. You can generally create very solid hypotheses from a wide range of sources (even news reports that get ignored!) and all these leaks did were confirm many of them.

These leaks actually got the media to do its job and go through current events more deeply (and maybe even force some less biased investigative journalism instead of c/p shit from the Associated Press).

They, the media, are literally forced to go through these leaks if they want to stay relevant as "news sources" and that's definitely a good thing because the majority of media sources, News Corp especially, are utterly worthless at anything but peddling talking points and copying articles.

That's why he leaks shit in the way he does. Because he knows the media is pretty worthless and will not do anything unless they are basically forced to.
