This isn't A missile, or A torpedo, this was 200 artillery shells with civilian casualties.

NK is a possible nuclear threat, right at the border, any war would be devastating to the human population of North Korea (and potentially South Korea/the region in general) which is not at fault here. How can you punish a country like NK without war? Man, this shit is so fucked up. There are dozens of hurt SKs and it was probably a miracle that no one died. They just can't let them get away with bullshit like this and then use "sry thought it was invasion so we fired at a random Island" as excuse. Something has to happen, the muscles will be flexed some more. For example I don't think China can support NK in this.

NK does something stupid, but nobody wants to start a war so it all just blows over. NK uses the incident in propaganda, thus raising national cockiness and making future incidents more likely and frequent.

NK isnt looking for a real excuse, just providing foreign nations an excuse not to take action. Foreign nations are eager to just accept the excuse as they do not want to take action against NK (despite knowing they are blatantly lying). NK doesn't want to get invaded so they just provide this excuse.

China loves the U.S. Imagine if you owned an ATM that spit money at you at a rate of billions. Would you go to war with it?

Politically, they have to say they don't like it, but financially they're so closely tied I can't see them jumping into this in N. Korea's side unless it was something more serious.

Whatever place they shelled must have been an area with both civvies and military.
