Well this is almost certainly true except for the leaders who want to maintain what they have now, but then the question is; is it preferable to just wait until the get even more nukes if this is the way North Korea is thinking or might it just be better to get it over with before the scenario worsen and not just have wishful thinking of North Korea one day changing their crazy minds to become more reasonable. Might as well just go the other way, from all we've seen the last few days.

Can someone give me like a 5-10 point briefing so I don't have to read 130 pages? =P 1.SK makes training exercise near NK border. 2.NK bombs the f*** out of a SK village. 3.World is pissed at NK. That's pretty much it, here's how it goes after that. 4.US sends an aircraft carrier to the Yellow Sea. 5.China has been protesting against this for some time and up till now the US has obliged with China wishes, however after NK pointed the artilery at SK village China lost ground and now they must accept carrier.(China must be pissed at their "ally") 6.NK points ground-to-air missiles at US carrier. Now we wait to see if NK pulls the trigger or not. EDIT: Also, China seems to want to stabilize the region, not help NK out.

If we give in when they're willing to do this, whats to stop them from doing it again in the future killing more civilians while expecting us to let it go?" While I really don't want a war to break out, I think NK really needs to be dealt with somehow. Preferably peacefully with China stepping in or threatening to stop it's support for the North.

But nothing quite says "win" like 2 of the 3 world superpowers intervening to assist you. It pretty much looks like SK might end up starting this war after NK's provocation. And as an American whom works in law enforcement, I can't say I'm too happy about a potential new war. (I know I'm only in domestic security, but half of my co-workers are ex-military and war is bullshit.) It's all about china and what china decides to do. Most likely china will send some ambassador to korea and tell them to withdraw their military a few miles and then the US that they were able to control NK. Americans will respond by withdrawing their big ship from the area and tensions will ease and be back the way they were. I expect some peace talk meeting in the next 6-8 weeks after tensions slow down. NK will not apologize for the bombing, but china will apologize for them. The only possible way there can be a war is if SK starts it, and they aren't likely to do that.

All the while NK does their military posturing, firing off missiles every now and then and conducting their own drills. All this provocation from the three countries, and yet most of the comments on CNN are "fuck China". Sad.

This test was done back in 2004. And the project was ended. So "finally" is a bit much. The awesome range of 1-2 miles is really practical for SK too. Here a NYTimes article about it: NYTimes wrote: But last September, after spending more than $300 million, the United States and Israel quietly shelved the experimental weapon, mainly because of its bulkiness, high costs and poor anticipated results on the battlefield. “Frankly, its performance was not great,” said Penrose C. Albright, a former Pentagon official who helped initiate the project. “Under certain conditions you can make it work. But under salvo or cloudy conditions, you’ve got problems. In northern Israel, about 30 percent of the time, you’ve got a cloud deck.” He and other military experts say the aborted project is a case study in the challenges of building antimissile weapons and the consequences of failure. Today, northern Israel remains defenseless against the Katyushas and other small rockets. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/30/world/middleeast/30laser.html?_r=1 Never mind that you can easily and cheaply make countermeasures for it. Reflective paints and voila! The THEL can take down 3 mortar shells shot from one mortar. Thats not going to get you very far. In a full out war, there will easily be 500 shells in the air at the same time. If it rains its probably useless. Do some research man.

More obligatory vanga predictions. Anyway, maybe it will be better to let China handle the issue? Maybe?

Nobody knows if they are already able to use nuclear weapons (which would be very bad for SK) and most of all if China supports NK like they have been in the past.
