I did think about buying those, too, but I wasn't able to test them at any local store. The only ones they had were the K 601 and some others that had a lower price. So I tried the K 601 and I was totally amazed by the sound quality, and thus bought them. AKG seems to be the best brand, indeed. I was at a local recording studio last week, and they had some unbelieveably expensive AKG Headphones (AKG Q701 http://www.akg.com/personal/,pcp_id,278,_psmand,1.html?quincy#/the-line) and DAMN, these things sounded awesome. But yeah, they also go for ~500€.

Got these paired with a Xonar Essence STX sound. Can't wait till they burn in! Then I will hear crystal clear sound of "You must construct additional pylons" as well as listening to all my flac files :D

Bose is just overrated and the sound seems to be really fake, not real at all. Dr. Dre is a piece of plastic that would be broken after like 2 weeks, and the sound is just ridiculous bass booster.

Yeah, there are definitely better choices in the 2-300 dollar range, like the AKG k701s and their ilk. Heck, there are better option at HALF that price.

Bose has amazing noise cancelling and nothing else. Build quality for both is so and so. Not amazing and pretty plasticky. Ultrasones are great with anything trance or electronic. I'm not really sure what dubstep is though. M50s have a slight bass emphasis, and is currently the price performance champion, though its price has risen recently. Soul by Ludacris?? look good for bassier stuff. The Beyerdynamic DT990 and 770 are a few of the audiophile's favourites if you want more bass at that price point. Ignore the people above me. The AKG K701 are terrible for music. Dry, wide and boring. I wouldn't recommend them for people like you.

K701 is a bad choice for somebody asking about Beats and Bose. edit: if you're a college student, I'm guessing you may prefer closed-back headphones. The open headphones (e.g. AKG K701, Beyerdynamic DT990, Audio-Technica ADxxxx, and so on) do not block the headphone's sound from leaking out, nor do they block external sounds from getting in. The ATH-M50, Beyer DT770 models, Ultrasones, and so on are closed-back.

Pièce de resistance are my blue Urbanearz headphones. Best looking headphones there are, period. Sound is clear. Somewhat less comfortable, like all goodlooking, fashionable things.

I need to get some income so i can buy another set of Senheisers (maybe upgrade to 428s even) I use the 428's as my commuting headphones (train/bus rides, my 598's are never leaving the house don't want them to get hurt or broken) and they are pretty good, especially at the price point. I like that they are closed so I don't have to listen to peoples conversations on public transit, just enjoy your tunes. They are definitely heavy on the bass (not sure if you need that or not) I am not sure what else is available around the price range of the 428's but in my opinion at that price you get a good pair of headphones.

Thanks for the advice, but I already know all about them. I was going to buy them originally, but my parents got insisted we got the less expensive 222s.
