Unbelievably good.
Wireless, but perfect sound quality. Anyone who's had wireless RF headphones will know they're convenient, but not that great, and its a fight between no wires and sound quality whether or not to get them/keep them. Not these. Kleer technology <3
Saying that, these cost £170, and are as good quality as my £60 wired Medusa NX 5.1s... Worth it.
Rechargeable battery never dies.
20ish hours longest stint without being put on dock.
Also worth mentioning, they are about same quality as the Medusa, but are absolutely a shit ton more comfortable.
They are unbelievably comfy. I look forward to wearing them when I awake. And when I wear them, I am 100% free to roam. Well worth the extra £110.
I'm also not sure if they're as good as the Medusas or better... Maybe I over-hype the Medusa's after breaking them during the honeymoon period... But the RS180's are actually immense.

I need to get some income so i can buy another set of Senheisers (maybe upgrade to 428s even) I use the 428's as my commuting headphones (train/bus rides, my 598's are never leaving the house don't want them to get hurt or broken) and they are pretty good, especially at the price point. I like that they are closed so I don't have to listen to peoples conversations on public transit, just enjoy your tunes. They are definitely heavy on the bass (not sure if you need that or not) I am not sure what else is available around the price range of the 428's but in my opinion at that price you get a good pair of headphones. Thanks for the advice, but I already know all about them. I was going to buy them originally, but my parents got insisted we got the less expensive 222s.
Ah, that sucks. Hopefully you get them soon!

Hello headphone enthusiasts of teamliquid!
I am looking for advice on buying a headset for my iPod, I only play 320kbps files but the headset will rarely be used to listen to anything above that quality.
What I am looking for in a headset is something that does not have too much base as I hardly listen to anything dominated by the bass, it should be fit for classical music so the spectre as well as extreme metal. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards TheBamf

Price range? (though it's hard to estimate prices since they vary so much from country to country)
By headset, do you mean something with microphone, or normal headphones?

Probably not a significant difference unless you get something intentionally designed to be inaccurate. Most popular lower and mid-priced headphones are kind of tuned towards being able to be driven acceptably out of most any source.

Got these good old ones, sat in a shelf for some years, but brought them back buying a new Audio cable ( one of the earphone plugs was borked ) and new Earpads, too bad you *can't* replace the headband soft part. :D
On Desktop PC, Sennheiser HD555, really really comfy and good sound quality, but I do feel that cheapish sound card is eating into quality.
What sound card do you recommend for Sennheiser HD555s ? Obviosuly ASUS Xonar's would be a blast, but is there anything cheaper than that? :D
|
There's not much cheaper than an Asus Xonar DG (PCI, maybe $25) or Xonar U3 (USB, maybe $40). But see above. I guess it depends on how bad the onboard audio is, but I wouldn't expect huge improvements.
|
Actually by Asus Xonar I meant Xonar STX series, currently I have CREATIVE Sound Blaster 5.1VX with a loose headphone jack ( due to not having cabled 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter, lol ) and my Onboard Audio is fried, was sort of looking into something that headphones would benefit from and would be nice, if would have "Stereo MIX" option, current sound card does not have it. and no way to control Microphone boost either.
|
If you can afford it I would recommend the Xonar STX. It has the stereomix option you want (its called wave, but does the samething). Your 555's would benefit from it, assuming your audio files are in lossless or something like 320 kbps. The STX drives my HD 598's just great.

I really want to hear about the 1% of people in the poll who 'built every component of their headphone rig'

These are pretty good. Really comfortable. I can wear them all day without any discomfort and they sound really nice.

I'm contemplating buying some Shure SRH440's, anyone have any experiences? (Or if anybody know anywhere to buy Audio Technica ATH M50's for around 100 bucks, that would be appreciated as well.)

I just got the 440s and I love them. The coiled detachable cable is really nice and they sound amazing (although I am not an audiophile). Solid build quality and good isolation. I was debating between these and the 280 Pros, but I heard the clamp force on the 280 could be uncomfortable.
My only gripe with the 440 (and you may not have this problem), is that since my head is kinda.. pointy I guess, I get some uncomfortable pressure directly on the top of my head with extended use. I've heard of a mod that removes some of the weight from the headband - I may try that. Another popular mod is to replace the earpads with the 840 earpads (its about $20), which adds a bit more bass, isolation, and comfort.
Good luck.

Wow... this thread really makes me want to get a proper headset... o.o ... talk about stimulating sells.

Hey guys, I am looking to replace my Sennheiser PC 350 gaming headset with an open back alternative. Recently I've been experiencing some tinnitus that seems to intensify after long sessions with my headphones. The only thing I can seem to attribute it to is the pressure from over the ear because the volume is moderate. My budget is $40- $80 and it doesn't have to be a headset. I use headphones primarily for gaming with some music (trance, classical etc..)

Just wanna let you know the "Corsair HX1" sucks so dont buy them.
|
What is the most price worthy headset? Logitech is bullshit and their headset broke twice (first 1 was 20, the 2nd was 50) Must have: cushion earpads and a physical switch for my microphone.
