M50 is much more comfy than the HD280 so it's not really much of a comparison. HD280 hurts on medium+ sized heads. Go for it if you're not completely blocked by cash. It also has decent resale, probably $80 at rarely used levels if you hate it.

If you want to take it outside/on trips, think about getting the coiled one Juliette. I found the straight-cable on the M50 really annoying for portability.

M50 is not that portable to be honest whichever cable you pick.

I also don't get all the hype. I own a pair. I think they're decent at their price point but not spectacular.

def on trips (in the car, plane, etc) but probably not walking around to class and stuff. ill transport it in case/folded up to the library or something and wear it there. def considering the coiled ones though, i dont want to be tying down a 12ft wire.

i dont mind just decent. I have $100 and i want whatever I can get around that, and im content with that.

i do appreciate the help though. ill probably go with m50s since its not that far off in price, and seems a lot better. unfortunately not till next week :[.

next you can all convince me to start with an amp/FLAC/more headphones, as if wanting a new keyboard wasn't enough

Just hold off on a Rick Owens purchase and you'll do fine with audio equipment. Spending 2K on speakers/amp was worth it

Next on the list...sub, headphone + headphone amp... another 2k gone lol

Damn you guys spend a lot on audio and clothes. It took me many many years to build up my inventory of audio gears and I'm sure I still don't have half the stuff in CorsairHero's collection.

Aren't some of you still in school? How the hell do you afford all this stuff...

i'm in school, you should really be working part time or on your off semesters anyways, just manage your money, buy used headphones for a year, sell them used and buy slightly better ones used again, if you're smart about spending they don't depreciate much and you only spend $100-200 a year upgrading rather than $800 outright. people think my thousand dollar audio collection is bad but i could spend it drinking or i could spend it buying more computer parts or clothes or shoes. really audio isn't that expensive, it's a one time cost for a couple years unless you have an accident

Graduated last year, working as a software developer.

Speakers: KEF LS50 / Mackie mr5 mk2
DAC/AMP: Audinst HUD-MX1 + NAD D3020
Headphones: Hifiman HE300 / ATH M50
IEM: Audeo PFE 012

If you take out the speakers / speaker amp, I didn't spend that much imo.

Next on the list: Oppo HA-1 + hifiman HE-560. Just waiting to see if my local dealer (headphone bar for those in Canada) will stock them if Oppo lets him. I dont want to pay customs to bring the HA-1 across the border. He already has the 560's :D

I'm lucky that I was able to demo all my gear before I bought it except for the Audinst (can only be bought on ebay from Korea).

I'm not the kind of person that collects gear and then flips it later. I just give the stuff to my parents. The LS50 + D3020 combo was something I could justify because I see it as an end game combination for me in PC audio. Maybe a sub if i move into a bigger room and using an upgraded DAC from a new headphone amp in the future.

Hahahaha surprisingly i dont wear any rick. Im a lazy clothes enthusiast, literally shorts all the time when i have like $600 of denim in my closet

. Rick would be heavily underused hahah

Also a student. I dont really have other "expensive hobbies" dota is free and ive spent all of $30 or so the past 2 years on cosmetics and compendiums, so my non food money goes to clothes.

I dont have the sense of permanence for a real audio setup. Not gonna drop 1-2k on stuff when im not that big into it, for my dorm room, and instead of clothes haha.

I read up about these. Seems like a good deal. But people are saying there are audio drops within a few feet of the receiver station and the bass is terrible on the headsets. I almost pulled the trigger but I feel like for $80, could get a better wireless headset for gaming?

The bass is indeed a little lacking compared to my other booming headsets, but not outright terrible. If you turn up the bass manually in the settings it's definitely there. And at that price, I don't think there is a better wireless headset for gaming no.
