I registered because i started to play SC. And about SC, i am too noob to give an interesting point of view regarding strategy, programers and so on but reading the forum gives me some interesting issues to improve my skills Same, mostly. I didnt have much to talk about with the already skilled players, so it wasnt until i saw some easy to debate & bash threads like, "which god is the real god", or something like that which can go on for hours and hours that i decided to throw in some different perspectives just for the sake of having something to do. So it was the off-topic general forum that caught my attention. Maybe if that can somehow be 'improved'. Newbs dont really want to join a forum and start discussing 90% broodwar with seasoned vets when they dont even know how to play. | ||

a guy says how many posts people have. okay thats not much discusion without some nice data to look at or something. u need another dimension in the discussion, such as avg posts per day, or avg post per thread participted in, something along those lines. second guy says he's new and puts a smile. hes from sweden. i think it is a playful smile, like a cheerleader who likes male attention even tho shes actually a prude can-kniving bitch. that kind of smile. but i mean, thats a normal smile isnt it. theres only 2 kinds of smiles i know. one is that kind, and then the other is like, a stoner smiling cuz he just ate a box of doughnuts. so anyways, he says he's new. im not sure what kind of response he wants. maybe he will be please with some meaningless stock greetings and inquiries: "nice ta meet ya buddy, where u from? a/s/l? what race u play? wanna play bw sometime? how is sweden? got a girlfriend? whats ur major? what music u like? hows the weather?" stuf like that man. cuz theres not much more u can say to him. except introducing urself as well. u could be all like "yo, i'm in my 20's and i still live with my parents and i have a bad heart and no life insurance, cant exercise, my back is going bad, i dropped out of college, have no friends, and im a virgin".. something like that to get the conversation going is always good. | ||

This is perfectly fine with me, people dont feel like posting and shouldnt be pushed to do so.. this will only give garbage. Well the 1st reason is kinda natural for this site, many gosu's around here and some people think everyone rocks at sc (while i think MANY just suck or quit a some time ago). I think some these would like to post but need to get over that step. In some of the longer discussions, the veterans have been going back and forth about the issue for a long time(political debates been going on for years at this point for example), so many times it is not a real debate, but more of an argument between a small group of people, which tends to not be rather inclusive. Once again, the vets should probably take more time to welcome newcomers, and also structure some discussions to be more open(for example, religous threads often hijacked by obsolete, political threads often hijacked by me and excal, etc.. ) . | ||

Reasons i picked up so far are: - Many visitors are way better in sc than me and i dont want to be bashed or dont have much to add. - Topics are going off topic and when i try to add something to a discussion i'm just being ignored. - I'm just too lazy. well, all my posts are extremely lazy, obviously. well, almost all of them. whenever i put any effort into a post i usually end up getting banned by rekrul. ive always had those other problems u mentioned too. topics go so off topic and ppl ignore posts a lot. and i'm also a horrible sc player. i really shouldnt post as much as i do, it's true. but then i see so much fucking spammers and i figure i can do better than that at least. ppl shouldnt be so afraid to ask dumb questions, and really most reactions can be phrased in the form of a question. if u think ensnare is the best thing in the world u could ask why more people dont use it, or why people think it's not worth using etc. if u think people should play a diff map, u can ask people why they dont, etc. of course, sometimes there's a slight quirk in the question and you get a buttload of off topic spam. actualy u get that no mater what. so fuck it. try to find people whose posts are respectable and PM them. now that we have PM that is really the best bet. threads are just fucking shit because infinite amount of ppl are allowd to contribute and the discussion always completely spins off in a dozen directions, which leads me to a thesis i did not forsee as i was typing this: a forum where threads can be created such that only a specific list of persons (modifyable by the creator of the thread) may contribute (but all can read) would create works of art. there would be challenges and obstacles with such a feature but once people learned to use it properly we would end up with a lot more nice threads to read. | ||

And even if you can't necessarily give strat advice, you can still ask questions, and talk in threads like "Who taught you to play BW?" "Favourite progamer?" | ||
