Its hard to believe that most of the media today is run by left-wing anti-bush democrats. But please, provide evidence for your claim that it is. Give me names and proper evidence that proves the media is a bunch of left-wingers. I dont believe in conspiracy theories that are not based on evidence. Here is my interpretation (again) of the media agenda:
I believe the media only gives a fuck about its ratings. If you want some bullshit joe millionaire show, they'll bombard you with 20 more of them the next season. Thats the way the media works. America failing in Iraq is hotter news than America succeeding in Iraq. It all comes down to what type of news Americans would more likely watch. Also, before the war, did you see how many pro-war talkers there were on most of the news stations? The media had A LOT to do with supporting the Iraq war before it happened, and somewhat going against it when popular support begins to wane down. Why are they doing this? Cuz the ratings go up! more people are watching us, yay, more money!!!
This is just my oppinion about the media not backed up by any evidence. HOWEVER To me, tv ratings seems like a more logical explanation than consiracy theories and hidden agendas.
According to a recent study, 34% of the media is liberal, compared to 7% conservative. 5 to 1.

Not exactly an accurate statement. The study is a measure of journalist impressions and responses, not a study of information presented. Alot can be takin from the survey, and is an interesting read, but I don't think you can make such a direct statement based on the information.

I don't think you can make such a direct statement based on the information. But thats what republicans do best! Dont take that from him.

Oh yeah I forgot. If you don't agree with the results it must not be accurate!

I don't think the results directly answer your question. I read the methodolgy page, and I don't think that it would generate a very consistant data pool. I also find it interesting that you fail to mention that over half the reporters claimed to be moderates(what ever that means, which is the problem).
I quite frankly don't care if the media is liberal or conservative, becuase I don't think that is the major problem with it. As the study suggests, the media does not go into enough depth in there reporting, there is an erosion between reporting and commentary, and there are far to many factual errors as organizations are pumping this stuff out on the fly to be the next guy to a headline. In that sense, I very much so agreed with the results. Beleive it or not, I do not claim to be conservative or liberal, so which ever way it slanted would not bother me in peticular.

That makes sense because In Pew's survey, while moderates and liberals could usually identify conservative news organizations far more often than liberal ones, about three-quarters of liberals (74%) and a majority of moderates (56%) said they could not think of any news organization that is especially liberal.

...Except for the NYT... I know. I read it. Like I said, the data pool is not consitant. Plus I beleive there is atleast a little bit of proffessional integrity left in the industry.
edit: I should note I am not trying to insult the survey itself, but only that your conclusions take the results to far.

Firstly, I'm going to echo what others said, just because we didn't talk about it then doesn't mean it didn't exist. Talking about it doesn't desensitize the situation. It allows you to cope or try to understand. Without being able to talk about them, when we are confronted with them, we don't know how to react, and that can lead to violence.
Secondly, as for degeneration of morality. I think morality is subjective to the individual. I think it is amoral to push your own morals on other people. To be truly moral is to keep your morals to yourself.
I'm 17, but in my short time I have come to distrust any news source (FOX, CNN, etc..). I have stopped watching TV almost entirely. I see a huge problem with the way people understand information. We get bombarded by information everyday. The majority, absorb this information as if it were fact. "Did you know that the middle east hates America and is jealous of our power and wealth? According to CNN's poll (just an example, not real).
From an early age we are saturated with this information to the point that it's like if we were there ourselves. How can a poll or even interviews with a few of the populace convey the emotion, fear, anger and hopes of a people who live miles and miles away. I have stopped generalizing and trying to assume how people feel because doing so is so against my idea of the unique individual. We all have different motivations and experiences.
In an age where global communication is instant, it seems that we are growing apart, not together. We send people to generalize a populace and then come back and tell us what that generalization is. Until I go there to see it myself, I'm not going to make assumptions about it.
Also, just because the topics of sex, and pedophilia have become more open, doesn't mean the rate of their occurance has increased. Wives wanted divorce since forever, they just didn't do it because it was considered a social stigma. If you don't want to talk about it then don't listen, but stop trying to shut people up who do.
I'm very tired so sorry if this seems very disorganized.
Again, sorry if I sound disorganized and/or crazy, but I had to respond.

and on that note, does anyone listen to Air America Radio? I can only listen for about 2 days in a row before i just get drained listening to their constant whining and all the horrible things about our gov't, which are all true, but theres just so much cinicism you can take. Anyhow, the best segment of course involves Al Franken, so check it out sometime at www.airamericaradio.com . Jeanine is pretty good too, however she doesnt come on till 6 hours later.

Prisoner abuse by British and American troops is a vital issue which the media should pursue vigorously. The difference between these acts and those of our 'enemies' is that we are directly responsible for them and can take immediate internal action to deal with them. They also impact directly on the credibility and moral standing of the 'coalition' which, after all, initiated the war in Iraq and needs to be above reproach. However this was 7 out of 140,000 soldiers. Why focus so intently on the minority? Why damage the military's record publicly when steps were already taken internally to discipline those few?
so what if there were a couple corrupt politicians? would it be wrong of the media "to focus intently in the minority? Why damage the" governs " record publicly when steps were already taken internally to discipline those few?"
the media will always focus more on those who done something wrong... no matter if they are minority or majority... thats the way it shoud be...
and what was that thing about it being the medias fault that teenage pregnancy, abortion and whatever have gone up??? reminds of that one about higher education only contributing to flowery arguments... something like that...

This is a war effort. The media is trying to undermine it by reporting this relentlessly. We've all heard it! MOVE ON!
I don't disagree that they should report wrong things that happen, but why does that stop them from reporting RIGHT things that happen? Do you see the lack of balance here?
The media can't take ALL of the blame, but they can take much of the blame. Look at all of the movies that deal with teen sex, all of the TV shows, all of the morning radio shows. They never say that it's wrong.
