Why would you think the double differential of exp(rt) isn't r²xexp(rt) ? His solution is right and yours wrong, as can easily be checked. With exp(-2t) the equation yields : [4+4*(-2)+3 ] exp(-2t) !=0. I'm not sure he should have had all the points however because he doesn't explain why it's the general form of a solution and just assumes the solution has the form exp(rt), which is correct but that comes from a theorem and isn't obvious by any means.
