90% of the reply are from US citizens...

The good thing about the USA: paying little over nothing for gas (you get a gallon for the same price as we get a litre) and far less taxes.

Getting a car is like way too expensive when you're a student, like me.

For some reason I've always had the impression that big cities in Europe have much higher population densities than similarly populated cities in the US. Like LA and Chicago and Houston... wtf.

No, you really need to think before you post. Your comment was about as stupid as the other guy's was.

I drive a 90 (91?) Mistubishi Mirage... Goooooosu. I got it for real cheap, though, like under $100, because this guy was going to junk it, so I told him I'd give him some money for it. He moved to Thailand, and didn't take it with him, that's why he was junking it.

Well what sux about the US is compared to other countries our mass transit system fucking blows in most parts of the US, therefore most people need cars to get around, along with gas prices being much much cheaper. =-/

is driving with manual transmission a big deal in the US?
around here it's very common (I actually prefer manual over auto any time as long as it's not a 7 series, S-class or something about this size and power) you actually have to pass exams for you driving license on cars with MT

It's actually really uncommon to see people driving manual, at least around here. Mostly because of the stop-and-go style driving.

'92 Plymouth Voyager, one of the original minivans Going to upgrade to a SUV soon in a month or so, not sure which one. I'd like the new GMC Envoy though, but its way too expensive. I'd like a normal sized car but I drive in bad conditions too often and use the storage space.

Side question: What do you think is the best SUV?
wtf was that signature

I'd either get Dodge Durango or one of those Kia/Hyundai SUV's.. But then I'm not an SUV person, so..

Are you kidding? Id take the new upcoming jeep, the bmw x5/x3, mercedes m class, or the porsche suv (forget the name). Oh yeah the infiniti and lexus models arnt too shabby either.

Taewook, with 5grands to spare, I'd suggest you getting a 240sx. Them 240s are very very nice. With 5grands I think you can get a 95-97 with less than 100k miles on them.

No, you are.

"A Nissan Mitsubishi with 3 exhausts" WTF are you smoking?

Nissan and Mitsubishi are two different car companies.

Don't say "you need to lighten up" either. It was a totally lame attempt, attempt is really too good of a word for this, at being funny.

the best SUV ever - is Infinity FX-45 (especially with all the options)

M-class is just a piece of shit (don't get me wrong, I'm a very big MB fan), especially if compared to X5 or Cayenne (which is ridiculously expensive)

and stop attacking Scv btw, Zippo's attempt at humour was extremely lame

manual is much cheaper to build cars with so since the US is rich we can afford all automatics. And it has nothing to do with stop and go driving. I was in China and it has tons of taxis which drive in stop and go traffic all day and they are all manual. They drive flawlessly though.

Anybody who has a manual for more than a few months gets pretty flawless at it, stop and go or not. The only thing about stop and go in a manual is that you're constantly on and off the clutch, making it rather annoying to do for extended periods of time.

You might need your right hand on the stick (for us westerners) but that doesn't mean you can't do other things. I have no problem driving and shifting one handed while talking on my cell phone in the other hand. It might mean I rev a bit higher around the turns, but it's not really a big deal.

My parent's car started feeling like such a golf cart after I got used to mine.

Double clutching for rev-matched shifts, heel-toeing around sharp turns, and getting much better launches than autos will ever get you have pretty much attached me to manual trannys for good. You just have far greater control over your vehicle in a manual, and they're a hell of a lot more fun to drive.

I don't intend to race myself, I do these things for the hell of it while I'm driving.

You can get good fuel economy in a manual if you drive like an osteoporotic grandmother; depends on how you shift.

you don't have to have an AT to have cruise control (it is a common misconception)
and MT is almost always (like 99,9999999%) more economical than AT as it shifts up later and down earlier (thus more revs and fuel consumption)

Syncro's wear out so it's better for your car, safer to do more aggressive downshifts, and more fun.

Yeah, its pretty sweet, I can almost get it up to 110 km (65 miles) per hour if I am going downhill with a strong wind at my back. Going up hill though, I can only compete with a tractor.
