This is a post from Rekrul:
http://www.wsop.com/toc/
need votes to get into this tournament
click S then vote Daniel Schreiber
if you guys get me into this tournament and i make money from it i'll do something amazing for the community
He later goes on to say that he will donate 50% of his winnings to the Starcraft community. That's potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars, and we need to actually band together and get him into the tournament so he has a chance to win, which will give us a chance as potentially have more amazing events like TSL, maybe even ones big enough to draw some professionals? The blog system on this page doesn't work that well in refreshing what blogs are bumped to the top, but I feel that is by design. Rekrul's plight goes beyond the Blog section on this, though. The fact that his name is up for being able to be voted on for this prestigious event where we will be blessed to see him taunt Phil Hellmuth gives weight on why we as a people of teamliquid.net should vote for him. Hell, go and spam it all over to get him votes. The more people are aware of the fact that he's going to be donating hundreds of thousands of dollars potentially (to a video game community, nonetheless), the more people will want to vote for him to see this happen. Let's make it happen, people. Go vote!

We all know Rekrul is legit. Anyone cool enough to troll my livestream in front of 400 people is a winner in my book.
Get out and vote.

Rekrul will wreck them if only we can rack up some votes. Vote or die.
|
I was going to suggest making this a front page news article with something similar, but didn't in the end. He's not even in the top 50 now, so TL really needs to get behind this. Hell, the "other" StarCraft sites should get behind it too, as I'm sure they benefit from TSL and such. I could just imagine, the Rekrul TSL3 with a $100k prize pool.

I'd prefer it to be an invitational!
Get Boxer involved imo. He said in a recent Artosis interview he'd be interested in a foreign tournament for his fans. That'd be an amazing investment to help the growth of foreign e-sports.

Ugh, it'll be very hard to get him to win over all these super famous poker stars but hell I'll certainly try my best. Guerilla mail ftw
edit: oh I guess that wont work
"We detected that your email address has already been used to vote. Please note that each person is entitled to only 1 submission for the duration of the contest."
obviously my email address hasnt been used but I guess you just cant vote twice with the same IP

yeah in my case the link was pointless, but if you look at it, you will find the Code within it, some random letters and numbers, just copy and paste them into the page on the WSOP site where it wants the code

Ok, after you voted I guess you just need to wait a little while like 5 min or sth then visit the page again and you can vote again with a new guerilla mail

i thought we agreed to not have these "vote for my little sister in the miley cyrus look-a-like contest" threads anymore :o tbh i don't care anyways as this is for a seasoned forum member and the possibility to win huge chunks of money (and we getting back smth 'amazing' ) is also there, just saying
*edit*
oh he wants to give us half a million dollars in case.. that changes things i guess :>

example@gmail.com e.xample@gmail.com e.x.ample@gmail.com e..xample@gmail.com all works and gmail sees it as the same address. (so you won't have to create/login into a diff e-mail account)

Voted, you can bet I'll be voting many more times tommorrow.
A 100k TSL, how legendary and awesome would that be. GL Rekrul!
|
|
done, will do it every once in a while until voting is over o.o
|
|
I'd imagine the reason Rekrul isn't in the top 50 yet is because you can vote for 20 people. I've personally only voted for Rekrul, and I'm sure everyone on TL is only voting Rekrul, but most random scrubs will either vote all their favorites/people they know, or may even just choose randomly to fill out the 20. While others may get a lot of spillover vote, I doubt Rekrul is one of them.
Edit: It might backfire, but someone should try submitting this to various game sites (like Kotaku, IGN, etc) to drum up support for what would probably be the largest foreign event in eSports ever, should Rekrul do well.

Wow, I thought it was going to be a bunch of random people. Everyone on that list is a very well known pro. This will be truly remarkable if we can do it.

The fact that you can vote for 20 people at once should theoretically make the top 50 vote distribution fairly even... hopefully. Would be sick if Rekrul got in. Good luck if so.

Voted and woot top 50! im curious if they will release the results cause i wanna see how bad we win

Voted. With 20 votes per person it's going to be really tough to beat this though. Even though there's a good 50-100 popular players that's about it. All those 20 votes are going to them, or at least a good number assuming some ppl dont use all 20 votes up. Still, I'll vote a few more times when it lets me (IP troubles).

Till 15 June, so everyone should vote once a day atleast.
MORE THAN 40,000 VOTES CAST FOR TOC! In Just 24 Hours of Voting
"In just 24 hours the poker community has spoken loud and clearly and they should be applauded for their passion," said Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment, Inc., Vice President Ty Stewart. "We really love the idea of turning the fans into Executive Producers and they are taking the challenge head-on and making sure their voices are heard."
What is telling about the voting is the constant stream of submissions throughout the 24-hour process. This indicates that as countries around the globe became aware of this news about poker’s first All-Star Event they quickly began acting to ensure their favorite players were represented.
The 40,722 votes, represents an average of 1,697 an hour – or more than 28 votes cast every minute!
Early results indicate this will be a very close and hotly-contested race. While the Top 50 vote-getters are listed and updated instantaneously as votes are cast, it is clear that it will take a sustained campaign of votes for players to reach the Top 20 vote-getters when the polls officially close at midnight on June 15, 2010. With so many votes cast, to be able to move the needle during this three-month process, it will require players to be as calculating and creative as they are at the poker tables to claim their seat in the TOC. Cheatvoting is a bit too unfair on something where other people probably aren't cheating and there's a million $ involved. I don't mind gathering support from TL.. but using macros? Making additional accounts is bad enough, you don't want to get rek banned for cheating.

It's unfair, yes, but it's not against the TOS. I read it on the site and it doesn't say anything about voting multiple times, making multiple accounts, etc. Rek is not cheating in this case.
edit: Nevermind automated voting is banned. Don't do it

Its funny theres a lot of poker players going around asking for votes on all the poker sites and still arent top 50 but after 1 day rek is already top 50 so I think theres a good chance he can get in power of tl.

Voted, although I imagine the 20 votes per person is gonna make it tough for rek. I haven't followed poker in years, but I can see a number that absolutely have to make it: Doyle, Amarillo Slim, Hellmuth, Chan, Ivey, Ferguson, Esfandiari, Deeb, Harrington, Lederer, Negreanu, Greenstein, Harman, and Juanda are all legends or pros with a developed TV personality.
Then there's still a handful of well-known carrier players and main event winners that will get a ton of 10-20th votes: Moneymaker, Cunningham, Cloutier, Gold, Nguyen, Farha, Hachem, Mortensen, Raymer, Williams, and Forrest. So rek will have to beat at least half of these guys to secure a spot...
Basically, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO VOTE (often)!!!
And gl, rek.

I really dont understand how this is cheating. We're voting to see the player we want to see play (rek) just like other people who are voting for their favorite. It's almost like saying adverstising and brand awareness is "cheating", because all its done is increase favorable exposure to one particular person (rek). I'd like to know your definition of cheating too.
Voted again. ^____^

from toc:
A person may submit only one voting ballot of up to 20 names per email address. Any kind of multiple automated voting will be excluded.
hard to tell if jondoe@gmail.com, jondo.e@gmail.com, jond.oe@gmail.com, jondo..e@gmail.com would be considered different email addresses.
not that rekrul would be the only person who got helped from multiple votes from 1 account per day.
"Only one submission per email address for the duration of the contest." (source)

He means he voted ONCE. Anymore than that IS technically cheating by the sites rules. There is also the risk that voting more than once may invalidate all your votes. Especially with the case of the "periods" in gmail addresses and such.

Ahh ok, yeah i didn't understand. I thought he meant posting it here. Good point. I agree, however i'm still biased because i love SC so much.

voted. hope he gets in. i've seen elky a few times on wsop and it would be awesome to see rekrul too.

Removed the part about multi-voting in OP. Don't encourage people to get him DQ'ed.

Jut wondering... What would Teamliquid do with potentially 100 thousand dollars? A weeks cruise to Hawaii for all the admins? I mean... Teamliquid doesn't need money to be successful as a Starcraft community, it already is. I guess they could create tournaments for BW and SC2 every week for a year. I can't think of anything else they would put the money to use for. I don't know anything about tl's situation and the price of the server has to be high but i cant imagine theyre hurting.
I'm just gonna vote for rek because he's a cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything.

at this rate he's not going to make top 20 we need to get everyone (~4000) to vote like 4-5 times in order for rek to get in =(

he is in the top 50 for sure though

Yeah, without some sort of magic (aka cheating). There is no way TL can swing 20k votes.
Although those numbers do seem kinda suspicious. The main page talks about how they got 40k+ votes after 1 day. Now after 1 more day it's at 1 million+. I dunno about that lol.
We need SA/4chan/digg/etc. all to swing behind this or something, if it's true though.

There's a lot of money to gain. The chance that no one is cheating OR cheating on behalf of someone else seems pretty remote.

i thought this would've been annoying to vote.. but its really fast/simple, so dont be lazy!

Everyone makes more email addresses and use different IPs to vote for Rekrul ! I'll try to vote at least 10 times.
So many well known players in top 50, very exciting. By the way there's no way to know who are in top 20?

He's top 50. Voted twice. Going for the thrice. Keep it going guys.

im voting also..... we should not fail here.

Voted, and I support this being put up on other SC websites too.

i hate to be a party pooper... but this is going until June 15... and there were 40k votes in the first 24hrs... if those numbers someone presented were true, which i doubt, we are fucked.
Basically if we want to win this we need to vote EVERYDAY somehow... we need "Magic" or its GG.
Even if every TL member voted.. we'd easily run out of support base by june 15... gogo magic =P

Lets do some analysis.
Guarenteed shoe-ins based on recent popularity: Phil Ivey, Sam Farha, Johnny Chan, David Benyamine, Barry Greenstein, Chris Moneymaker, Peter Eastgate, Jennifer Harman, Erick Lindgren, Chris Ferguson, Joe Hachem, Scotty Nguyen, Antonio Esfandiari, Greg Raymer, Doyle Brunson, Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu.... thats already 17 like top tier guys very likely to make it.
Then there are some dark horses that have a lot of folowing: Kenny Tran - vietnamese community Humberto Brenes - people who like sharks and corny BM David Sklansky - famous poker book author Carlos Mortensen - can't count out a former world champ Dan Harrington - wrote the 101 on TAG NLH tournament play Jason Mercier - Really big in europe, recently on bluff magazine Huck Seed - really chill likeable guy Allen Cunningham - has a lot of really good plays televised TJ Cloutier - old people Annette Obrestad - women and europe Prahlad Friedman - people who are fans of shitty rap Phil Galfond - SS-Class online player. Teachs at bluefirepoker has a lot of fans jefrey Lisandro - kicked ass in WSOP few years ago David Williams - black people LOL Eli Elezra - fans of HSP Jamie Gold - fags and people who want to see him get his ass kicked.
Needless to say.. its gonna be really really really hard

Voted. The long wait time means that probably you can vote from uni/work/home all.
|
Ok, here's a breakdown of the current situation.
1. The voting doesn't end until June 15th. That's like 120 days from now. Assuming a minimum of 40k votes per day, with each person actually picking the full 20 people allowed and most votes going to a similar "top" group, we are talking probably like 3-4 million + votes needed to get into the top 20. Even if it's 1/10th that, it dwarfs what TL can manage on it's own.
2. At first, it seemed possible to just make throw away email addresses or use the gmail glitch to keep voting. But by my experience, and the posts of others recently, it seems that it now checks based on IP as well. There is also the danger that votes via the gmail glitch or from obvious throwaways like guerrilla mail will be discarded or not counted.
3. TL's "active" numbers are usually around 1500-2000 at any given time. My guess is that 1/10th of those might be willing to actually bother to vote and that's generous. It can't be done, no matter how much IP changing/email making some of us are willing to do.
4. Thus, we need to either: a. Cheat like hell. The problem with this is twofold. First, the script would have to be relatively sophisticated as it would have to make a throwaway email, attempt to register, log into email, click link, search Rek's name, and vote. Second, of course, is the high chance of a DQ. b. Get 4chan on it. Of course, they'd likely just cheat as well, so see above. c. Get really, really good at marketing on other sites. Or like.... own a major website like Digg or something.
C is the best option, but it'd have to be a fairly concerted effort. And it'd have to be done well. If we post on 4chan for example, and /b/tards decide to purposefully make us lose, well that's not very effective.
Meh, anyone have some good ideas? (anyone own Digg? or their own TV station?)

lol true and true, if the other guys numbers are correct then i have absolutely no shot in hell even with the nerd army behind me, and need to put an end to this to stop wasting ppls time lol
but wtf 40k votes 1 day and 1 million the next?
im assuming they advertise this etc on espn
general public > tl.net lol
|
Well, I though it was weird at first too, but than I realized that each person can vote for 20 people. So, 40k votes is technically 800k "votes".
That's why the numbers are so high. It also makes it that much harder for us to swing the vote.
|
What about .. forcing people to vote on this whenever they want to log in on tl.net
just.. kidding

That gives us/you hope, but I still don't think just this is going to cut it. Because their 40k number in 1 day is still for real, and that's still well beyond what TL can do unfortunately.
So yeah, see my post on the previous page again.

Since we don't know ANY numbers we should count you out yet Rek. Did you already try to get people from other Blizzard games (D2 / WC3) to vote for you? After all many of those guys will be playing SC2 and TL will probably use most of the money for SC2.

Perhaps if you sell Rekrul as Doing this for the sake of E-sports, incorporate every gaming related site, and have him pledge to donate percentage to each site, would 'marketing' possibly work.

I'd like to know your definition of cheating too. Voted again. ^____^ He means he voted ONCE. Anymore than that IS technically cheating by the sites rules. There is also the risk that voting more than once may invalidate all your votes. Especially with the case of the "periods" in gmail addresses and such.
Multiple votes isn't cheating because as quoted above, the site says you can use one vote *per email address*.
And the reason the "periods in gmail addresses" trick doesn't work with all email providers is that adding a period actually does make it a different email address. Gmail just happens to have the feature of letting users that register once also get things sent to the addresses with periods added.

Keeping on voting for Schreiber and Mackey!

The voting doesn't even block disposable domains like @mailinator.com
soooo legit.

Voted yet again. Still top 50! =)! Any ideas how to find out Rekrul's rank in terms of votes? Will we have to wait until the voting is closed?

is anyone good with scripts?

Kay, just spent every commercial break during WL playoffs voting for you. That'd be something like 500 or more over the past couple of days(good ol spare gmail accounts). GL, I'll do it again when the next SC game comes up.
edit-- god I just saw all the names on there. Gonna be really hard to get you in the top 20 with overpopular people like Moneymaker on there.
|
|
alexander kravchenko made top50... so some1 dropped out of it.. at least me know rekrul isn't #50 on that list.
Also, when you vote its sorted by bracelet winners... so anyone with like 3+ that isn't a complete no name is a shoe in.
However, a lot of people on that list have 2 or less... sooo i think rekrul still has a chance

(anyone own Digg? or their own TV station?) I think this post needs more attention. Maybe we should tell 4chan to vote for people other than rek and beg them that we need them to vote for rek's competition. We should tell them that we'd cry if they didn't. edit: Look, I don't have over 10 posts on many other forums, but for the ones that I have a few hundred posts, maybe I'll post up a link kk? I know we're all lazy and like to talk but not do shit, but please, just put up a thread right now on other forums that you visit or have visited. and those numbers are all made up
Yes, I know. They are very arbitrary estimates based on the only concrete number we have: they got 40k votes the first day. Like I said though, 300-400k votes needed to get in is not even remotely a stretch. This isn't a random SC poll on some Columbian website. This is the WSOP. We can't just think, "oh hey, I've voted 20 times now. If everyone in the thread has done that, that's like 10000 votes! I'm sure he's in now." People will slack off and forget, etc. etc. That and we don't even know for sure, if all our votes are being counted. What if, despite what they said, they choose to exclude votes based on IP as well? That's probably like 95% of our votes gone, unless the people who said they voted hundreds of times were constantly refreshing their IP as well.
I just feel that we'll need a more concerted effort than 1 thread in General to have any shot at this.

here is what Phil Galfond is doing:
Our lead pro, Phil, is in the running for the Tournament of Champions, which is an exclusive event that only allows 27 players in. To qualify, the players must have won a bracelet. Phil won the $5k buy in PLO bracelet in 2008 which qualifies him.
A lot of the other players in the voting are all of the guys that are shown on tv a lot, and Phil isn't as well known by a lot of the general public. It's hard to be recognized when you're an online player since you give up fame because you work from your computer instead of in front of television cameras. Phil is one of the top few poker players in the world, and we'd love for him to represent the online poker world in this tournament.
Here is where the voting is:
www.wsop.com/toc/
He is listed as "Philip Galfond" in the voting. You're allowed to only vote for one although it asks for 20. For more on Phil come check out his videos at: www.bluefirepoker.com, or check out his blog: www.bluefirepoker.com/blog.aspx
I dunno how this really applies to our situation here... but i guess its good to know

vote everyday guys......... this is sooooooooo worth it. think about it. 2 minutes of ur day everyday --> Rekrul making the tourny, which im going to say hes better than like at least 60% of the field. (some of these big names players r not that good, at least in the online poker community)... but lets just say he is 50% and there is a even chance of him cashing/wining the tourney. so taking these stats.. thats 37037$ Estimated value!!!!!!!!!!!! cash money bank. And if he can cash top3... thats at least 100000!!!!!!!!
So, purely estimiated values here.. but by spending 2 minutes a day for the next ~75 days.. which is like 2 1/2 hrs TOTAL over a period of 1800 hrs... 1/720 of your time... your earning TSL3. (of courese there r other factors like he doesnt cash at all or whatever, but purely estimates here)

I am actally quite impressed with the validity checking of the voting system, and the top 50 list being in random order (even though they only select 20 from it)...

Man, people are all gung ho about this for like... a week.
The fact that he is the top 50 is meaningless, since 90% of the people voting in this (not from TL) will all vote for popular players they see on TV and shit. There is going to be a huge gap between the top 20-30 "famous" players and the rest of the top 50. I, for one, highly doubt he's in the top 20 with just this.
There's still SIXTY+ days left. Get your asses in gear TL.

Voted. He seems to be doing well.

Need to change the OP guys. Vote for rek and mig too, while you are at it.

;OOO nice, he's 24th atm, so He's probably gonna stay in top 50 (that what he needs to participate, right?). Anyways, I believe rekrul can win a ton of money, and I believe he could pay the entrance (~10k$) himself and get all the money. So I'm just wondering why is he doing this ;P? is he broke =D?

Keep voting guys~! :D
Remember he needs to be in the top 20 and currently isn't according to an April 16th news post on WSOP's website. So keep voting!!

why would he donate half of his winnings when we're talking about hundred of thousands of dollars unless there's black on white with signatures? and does this mean to Team Liquid or to the whole community?

Seriously though, Rekrul always goes by his word. And it's probably going to be donated to TL, which will use it to sponsor events like TSL 3 and other cool SC related events.

Team Liquid MSL
That probably won't fail...

I know I'm primarily voting because I want to see Rekrul in WSOP, any benefit that may or may not come to TL is only a bonus.

Yeah I am waiting for sponsored events but they will not cost a shit when there's this big money involved. You shouldn't be waiting for checks tho, you'll be disappointed.
edit: btw I have voted becouse it would be cool to see rekrul playing and also getting more sponsored events to broodwar. still kinda sceptic about where all the money would go ;p
edit: and when I asked if the money goes for TL or the community I ment does the voters have anything to say how much money is spent on which event and so on.. -_-

I keep on forgetting this exists.

I voted, just a question though. If rekrul wins money and donates however much to the community, will this be used in event/s like the TSL2 where everyone has a chance to participate, or in an invitational where only the 16 invites or w/e get a chance?

I've been searching for videos of him playing poker every where but can't find any. Not even his Bracelet win in Seoul. All I find are some interviews, I need to see Rekrul play! Mr. Schreiber is now in the top 50!

He got enough to show up in the top 50 after sometime so we were doing something, although an April 16th news post on WSOP didn't put him in the top 20, which he needs to be in to play.
|
Voted again, come on guys, he should be in the top 20 by now . Maybe someone could get him advertised in the HDH casts? Or someone should post something on the reddit community, 100k tsl3 ftw!

Voted as well on 2 email accounts.
Would be great for day9 and HDH to be giving this a shout out and linking to it during their casts. Rek is in the top 50 but that's a far cry from the top 20... and there are so many big names to compete with.

You're only supposed to vote once per e-mail address.

Hmm, we won't know if hes in the top 20 or not, only if hes in the top 50.

Yeah - they published a news article that showed the top 20 (Rekrul wasn't in it) and may do that again, plus there is still lots of time to vote.

Don't worry, you just need to somehow modify every last aspect of your computer and make it seem as if it is a different computer in a different location.

If you really want to get rek up into this, you have to tap all those net admins that lurk a certain board, who managed to get a certain image-board administrator on the top of a well-respected magazine's poll. You probably know who I mean.
|
You mean moot and 4chan I assume. I don't believe it is taboo to just MENTION 4chan.
Meh, I hate quoting myself, but I mentioned the impossibility of getting Rek in on TL's power alone quite some time ago. The vote numbers are pulled out of my ass based on the 1st day vote count. The real number is most likely a lot smaller but probably still in the hundreds of thousands. I figured Rek would eventually drop out of the top 50 given people's short attention spams. (Note: I fall under this category as well, so I'm not ripping on people.)
The above poster is basically correct. We need 4chan, or some other ridiculously high traffic site that would be willing to mass vote for luls basically, if such a site exists. Or we need to cheat massively and hope they don't notice somehow.
On March 18 2010 16:17 Conquest101 wrote: Ok, here's a breakdown of the current situation.

Meh, anyone have some good ideas? (anyone own Digg? or their own TV station?) The Time method will essentially be the same as this, but considering that we're also seeing a random tripcode (not a word-based one) on this, it would be a bit more difficult in bypassing the trip then IP masking votes. Also, some cause for optimism would be the fact that I think that w/ Alexa rankings to check hit rates, we're probably seeing 20-25k votes at most on any one person daily, and likely less than that. I'm not technically adept enough, nor do I have the network resources to actually run a continuous vote program.
As for promoting this thing, I advise tech sites, lots of nerds and geeks (tens of thousands in places like Ars Technica, Slashdot and Boingboing) who would be intrigued on why a poker player would donate half of his winnings towards eSports. Seeding this first on clan sites for gaming, regardless of whether its for FPS or RTS would build a head of steam and awareness, then you can leak this to gaming sites, then tech will get in on the act. Just my two cents.

Gonna bumb this, tournament is soon.

how did we not win. that is no votes at all!

D: He didn't get 5200 votes.

Meh, looks like this would have been fairly easy to do even without any abuse... If every regular TL user got like 2-3 friends/family members to vote for rek that should have been enough.

what the fukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
how did we fail to do this??
5200 come on that should have been so easy

Am I the only one who thinks that the overall vote count was ridiculously low?
The voting was open for like MONTHS, and yet Phil Ivey wins with just over 16000 votes? I thought every random fanboy and his dog would have been in on this =/

Disgrace tbh, i don't get it.. This thread has 35k views, that means only every seventh viewer would have had to vote.

I don't believe those numbers are accurate to be honest.

There are at least 2k people on TL at any time, this thread has tens of thousands of views, and the voting was open for months. I'm going to agree with Chill and say no way in hell.
