Really?
RJ is on the wrong side of 30, and he's not that great. There was a month or so when he was top 5 scorer in the league, but that's all. His Jersey numbers came with the Kidd Effect.
No doubt RJ makes the Spurs stronger and addresses a need, but it pales in comparison to Cavs+Shaq, Celtics+Sheed, Magic+Vince, and LAL+Artest.
Umm, and the depreciation comes from playing on the Bucks without Redd. He's still a good player.

not good as Eric Gordon is a PURE shooting guard aka he's a scoring machine first and needs a playmaker.

Don't forget Baron Davis :-)

If I had to pick surprise team - Washington Wizards.

The Clippers are due for a good season, right?

Depends how long Indian curses last.

I honestly want to see the Clippers do well just so there can be nice a LAL-LAC rivalry.

blake is promising, if clippers can sign another big player they might actually have a chance to make the playoffs maybe

how many rookies lead their team to the playoffs? if LeBron couldn't do it, what makes you think Blake Griffin can?
the Clippers look decent on paper though, but unfortunately that's rarely ever translated to actual good results...
Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Al Thornton, Blake Griffin, Marcus Camby ...
pretty solid looking starting 5, but I can almost guarantee one or more of them will have season ending injuries or just play like total shit

Except the Cavs were definitely worse than the Clips were talent wise as you pointed out. Cav's fell into lottery land and never came out, the Clips are just cursed, but if Boston Red Sox can win a World Series I am sure the Clips can make the playoffs.

Hmm well let's see:
1. Lakers 2. Spurs 3. Mavs 4. Utah 5. Denver 6. Portland
IMO those 6 teams (in no particular order) are a lock to make the playoffs next season, then you'll be having many teams competing for the final 2 spots.
Houston - losing Artest, probably Yao, probably TMac... how far can they go with ONLY role players? Very likely IMO that they will miss the playoffs.
New Orleans - shitty season, haven't made ANY moves in the offseason, chances they miss the playoffs especially with other teams improving? I'd say it'll be tough
Phoenix - depending on what happens with Amare, etc... I still think they have a pretty solid team and if they remain healthy they could still get up in the top 8.
Golden State - they're really dangerous just because of the offensive firepower, plus adding Stephen Curry and Morrow and especially Anthony Randolph becoming a beast, they're also in a pretty interesting position to possibly make the playoffs.
OKC - my dark horse pick to make the playoffs.... Durant is going to be even more amazing, Westbrook and Green will develop further, and it seems as if Harden is going to be a very solid rookie. Really, if they can add a strong big man, they will be a really interesting team to watch out for.
Clippers - on paper, they have a chance and I think they might be in the running... we'll see.
Anyways that's my take on the West. I really don't think the Clippers can do it, but I might be surprised. As I said before, my dark horse pick is OKC and I see them finishing 7th seed or something and upsetting someone in Round 1 only to end up losing in the 2nd round. I called it!

I can't take the Clippers seriously after reading this.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4187729
There's character flaws and there's poisonous organizations.
The Richard Jefferson trade was big for the spurs because of the role he fills, not in terms of absolute best basketball player. The spurs NEEDED a reliable scorer (and a backup C/PF). Nobody's sure the cavs need shaq or even if he'll make them a better team.

Boston probably won't, or at least should not start Sheed. Perkins has done really well starting for them and he's a much bigger presence in the paint.

Yeah, I thought it would make more sense to start Garnett and Perkins and have Rasheed and Davis come off the bench, but listening to Doc in the press conference made it sound like he was actually going to start Rasheed... I hope the rotation will have it both ways.

The Boston Celtics are going to be the x17 of the NBA with Rasheed.
2ez roflowned.

Depending on how Rondo shakes out, Celtics starting Five are all possible HOFers
[edit]
Wait, before people jump on me,
First ballot HOF: KG Borderline HOF: Pierce, Jesus Who Knows: Rondo Will Actually Never Be HOF in Reality But Goddamit Anyway: Sheed
|
Pierce and Ray Allen will definitely be nominated ^_^
Sheed wont get in just because his balls were too big for the NBA.
