Yeah PL is not going to be very fun unless you are high sp and can fly a lot of things.

SniggWaffe seems like one of the few corps around that welcomes newbs and markets itself as a training corp. Is it worth it to join, though? 5m isn't asking much and their recruitment thread only lists Drake/Cane, bombers, and preferably a T2 cruiser as a pre-req.
I want to fly with TL but with SB being inactive, I'd like to learn how to fly competently and by the sound of things there are very few competent corps in EVE. Is SniggWaffe one of them?

I'll play devils advocate, join them. There aren't a lot of competent small gang groups out there, even less who gladly take in and train newbies. Unless you can get some one to vouch you in to one of the better corps your gonna have to slough through less optimal corps just to even get your bearings straight.
A lot of people from hatch's beginning certainly didn't have anyone to train us, a lot of the knowledge was self learned, people can help you in ts and on the forums for more specific questions, but really the most important part to enjoying eve is for you to find an active corp that is generating content where you at least like the culture of the group.
Just getting a routine and learning the most basic of mechanics will be a godsend, if you're broke and unsure of how to make money ask tl, if you aren't sure what to train and fit on non-corp mandatory fittings, ask tl, hell if your confused about the more indepth mechanics of the game ask tl. For everything else you're better off working your way through corps. Even if there's a corp you really want to join, like pizza that have requirements you don't meet don't lose heart. Try to find out who their friends and blues are, and try to join one of them. Make a point not to join corps that get you blacklisted from the corp you one day will want to join once you meet requirements.
Tl; dr, find people you'd enjoy playing with, you can always learn things elsewhere.

Thanks for the tip with agony though, according to evelopedia, that's exactly what i would like, i'll check their channel.
edit, Antoine, does that mean they get the seal of approval from TL? ^^ I never did anything with the TL eve contingent, so you'd have to ask one of them for the Official Seal Of Approval. I ran into you once in some random lowsec area iirc. You knew who I was, but I didn't know who you were at the time lol.
Also, +1 to Agony.

Also don't forget to join the public channel for every single good small gang pvp corp in eve and then collect all the vouches.

I've never personally dealt with Agony or (afaik) anyone from there, but everything I see researching into them says they're not a bad corp to start with. They seem to put a large emphasis on teaching people game mechanics which is one of the fundamental things that 99% of corps lack.

Oh man, logged on today to import some fits I'd been fiddling around with in Pyfa and started going through saved fits from before I joined Hatchery... soooo bad. Like my 4 arty 3 AC Thrasher fit, with scram, web, sensor booster, shield booster, plate in one low slot, and damage control.
Yes, I was apparently just putting random shit in the slots, but why would I SAVE that fit??
I'm sure the stuff I'm flying today isn't perfect but hey, it's not that.
|
Let's see here.
Arty + AC = long range + close range = you got everything covered.
Scramweb is fine, obviously.
Boosting your sensors and your shields - why wouldn't you want to boost those?
Not only do you have more armor, but you're also controlling your damage.
Sounds like a fine fit to me, sir.

A+ DefMatrixUltra Seal of Approval
It doesn't win the coveted DefMatrixUltra Invulnerability Field II Cynabal award though

Only true pros double tank. And only gods Active and passive tank at the same time.

we do take fairly new people. a word of warning though, you need thick skin, and you'll be training for a stealth bomber almost immediately. we give out free thrashers and stuff for you to mess around in, but as far as "training" goes it's a learn by doing experience and there wont be any hand holding
mail capqu ingame if you'd like to know more

don't they need large 5? just not the specializations? or are you alluding to some changes coming in the future? if what you're saying is true that cuts a month of my perfect moros pilot which would b cool

I would try to join a HBC corp first and AWOX because I heard that guarantees citizenship.
